I really with Stars on 54 had really stayed together and did more together as a super group instead of just this one song! They were such an amazing mix!
Let’s be real: this is a freaking good cover.
huge banger
@kennethgibson1265 I love the original, the Viola one, and this cover, too, all are great.
When I’m done building my time machine, one of my first places to visit will be Studio 54 on December 31, 1979.
To slap them in the face, hopefully
@@dahat1992 lol. That is hilarious.
Totally!
Hell yeah king
💕😂😂😂😂😂
Can't believe this song made it's way to Scott Pilgrim Takes Off. Scott is Canadian and the original version of this song is from Gordon Lightfoot also Canadian. Gideon Graves real name is Gordon Goose which may reference Canada Goose which started in Toronto in 1957. In 1957 Gordon Lightfoot formed a duo called the Two Timers which is a main theme in Scott Pilgrim. Then this song was remade for the movie 54 where Mike Meyers who grew up in Toronto played the part of Steve Rubell a co-owner of 54. 54 was a club in New York city where Ramona Flowers was originally from.
Yeah, I had to look up this version after it was the end credits music for an episode of Scott Pilgrim Takes Off. But I didn't make all those connections. Thanks!
Gordon Lightfoot wrote this... a songs true greatness is that it can transend any music format...
Gordon Lightfoot put his writers pen down and set his guitar down today.. RIP ... a great Canadian troubador.
Vale Gordy! Canadian great.
It’s 2023 this song is not getting old I never get tired to play even for how many years or decade will passed such a great masterpiece during my childhood days ❤
Partied at Studio 54 from 1983 - 1986...GOOD MEMORIES!!!. GREAT MUSIC!!!
The serotonin this song gives me 😌
Imo 54 was an awesome movie. During those days if I was old enough I sure as hell would try to get in. A time where magic was alive...
When I was a kid, I thought this song sung by these ladies was one of the most beautiful things I’d ever heard, it stops me in my tracks to this day. 3 Phenomenal voices
This reminds me of so many wonderful people.
AMBER + ULTRA NATÉ + JOCELYN ENRÍQUEZ= BOOOOOM :D
Legendary 🤩
I was 8 I’m now 30 and this is one of those underrated 90s anthems🔥💯
I remember being out in dance clubs many man years ago. ❤
90s ? Lol
It’s a confirmation of Gordon Lightfoot’s great songwriting how this could be remade into another genre version.
I'm Really Sad That Gordon Lightfoot Passed Away and 2023 Has Been A Really Sad Year.
I love this upbeat version. The lyrics take on a different meaning. R.I.P Gordon. Your legacy lives on.
thanks for tell, whu is Gordon Ligtfoot is
Gordon Lightfoot is a Canadian singer he was an iconic story teller through music
@@atomcraft4067 2023 is The Worst Year Ever
I remember this song in the 90's
A song is versatile and legendary when it can be sung in different ways and have a different meaning on each one. "Red Red Wine" by Neil Diamond is originally about a man drowning his sorrow with alcohol, while its famous cover by UB40 is more about enjoying life like it's a party. In this case, this song originally by Gordon Lightfoot is about struggling with a broken marriage, while this version has a much more happy and upbeat tone. The important thing is that every version works for specific purposes, neither one is better or worse. Just enjoy the one that applies to your own purpose and let others enjoy theirs.
I love your comment with all my heart! There are many songs that I have grown up with that I didn't understand the emotions behind the lyrics. GL was the version I grew up with. I was only 2, when this song came out. But I remember hearing this song when I was about 5 or 6 after my parents had a huge argument. I was just a kid, but I was trying to understand 'adult' emotions because I loved them so much. I wanted to understand how they were feeling, and I wanted to be able to help them get along. One day, after a very bad argument. I was in my room, listening to them say things that they would both regret, with no understanding that they were just 'working things out'. I was in my room with my little portable radio, and this song, suddenly made more sense! I got up and walked into the kitchen, to them arguing to ask for a drink of water. They both immediately stopped arguing, and acted like everything was fine. My Dad, hugged me, and My Mom gave me the cup of water. And I said, "Thanks Mom, for reading my mind!" They just both looked at each other like WTF? I went back to my room. And the next thing I heard was both of them laughing at me.
Yes Chris...you nailed it!!!👍👍
My question is Does Gordon Lightfoot get paid from every new version of the original song? Was he paid for this too?
@@frankkigozi By law, singers and recording artists making money using another person's original song are suppose to pay royalties to them, including "Stars on 54" in using "If You Could Read My Mind" to the late Gordon Lightfoot's estate.
Don't forget that Meghan Trainor got flagged several times for plagiarism as her hit single, "All About The Bass", plagiarized Phish's "Contact" and Koyote's "Happy Mode", but she got away with it.
Too bad Trainor was never forced to pay royalties to Phish and Koyote.
Agreed
Take me back to the 90s/early 00s!!!!
63 yrs old here and ohhhh those nights of standing outside Studio 54 ... hoping ... never got inside but just to have been there . This movie was what I always hoped to see in those days . Oh well ... here is my dream in a song !!!
I came here after a memorial listen to Gordon Lightfoot's songs because i remembered this one and man was i right to come here, to hear the disco version. Gordon, RIP man, you even caused other talented people to take your words and melodies to a different place and make a better song than they ever made on their own.
Wow...if that doesn't get you on your feet....you're dead...bring back DISCO
Nah... some of us have just gotten old and gimpy, and are stuck remembering "way back when..." But we aren't quite dead yet, despite Covid's best efforts. lol
Love it
If only I could travel back in time to this day 50 years ago, I would dance my heart out tonight at Studio54
"i don't know where we went wrong, but the feeling's gone and i just can't get it back" mannn 😔
RIP Gord. I never heard of this version until I read about it just now in an article.
R I P Gordon, I love this song !
What a wonderful time.
He's dead?!
OMG I didn't know. RIP Gordon
Gordon Meredith Lightfoot November 17, 1938 - May 1, 2023
Holy shit l didn't know 😭
I think the greatest song ever written. So good, you can totally switch genres, changes the beat, the meaning, the cadence, and it's still an incredible song. Went and bought new earphones just so I could listen to this version. Lightfoot, one of the best song writers who ever lived.
Another Gordon in Heaven. RIP Legend!
Tynomi vs. Kyne

I understood that reference!
Yesss
Tynomi SLAYED!
God this brings back memories love it even more now in 2023! 🥳
Yeah, I know you love Scott Pilgrim too 😁
From to 9/11 to covid all the happiness is gone but this song is done well. Remake
This is the best version of this song
I had completely forgotten about this song until I heard it on Drag Race Canada. I’m pretty sure the last time I heard this song was when I was 10, and I’m 32 now. I remember EVERY. SINGLE. WORD. I cannot stop listening to it now!
Love it!!! Damn the music of yesterday was simply THE BEST!!! So much talent, nothing short of amazing!!! Nothing made today compares!!!
Gordon Lightfoot version was way better. Too bad this band never paid any royalties to the Lightfoot estate for singing this song.
Shane 54, I will remember you forever!
i saw this song for the first time called united state of dance it was a fun time when i was a child.. i wish it was our child hood once more just so i can enjoy it more who else agrees may peace be with and your family always just like an old time movie!
Three beautiful and truly talented ladies who should've been bigger in there careers. Bought the single CD back in the days. I miss those days.
Miss those days too. Who would've thought that era would come to an end.
Got the cd soundtrack of studio 54!!!👌👌👌

I just suddenly remembered this song and searched for the mtv in youtube. Brings back memories. I'm gonna watch 54 again this weekend.
God what a song. Such good times. What a great time to be out. We had such a great time to this....love
This song is about an end of a marriage, heartbreak and becoming undone....
Good times.
I can´t stop to listen it, makes me come back 25 year ago, such a good times!
I'm 19 and this song is perfect
Agree! This is one of those songs i'll play about 12 times back-to-back 🥰🥰
Gordy's gold! What a treatment of the late great Gordon Lightfoot's hit composition!
Hey Sis, Remember when we used to dance to this shit back in the 2000's
I do, and I miss those times. It's just not the same without the joy we all felt back then
-J
the club and HOUSE mixes from this three ladies sound much more soulful and powerful on the 12"vinyl record from back in the 90s.
Take me back to tha 90s🥰
The 90s Were Better than the 2020s Decade.
Its been so
Many year n so
Much memories for me since iam 20 y old then now iam 43 iam still listen this song its make me feel young again
Heroes often fail. Are there more prophetic words than that?
Lightfoot rips open his chest for all to see, and is so brutally honest in three simple words. Takes the blame that he's the one that's flawed here. One of the greatest lines ever written
R.I.P Gordon Lightfoot You Will Be Missed.
I was in highschool when this music video was heavily played on MTV. Oh 90s was so good.
So many covers screw up the song. This one got it right. The key was the vocals. They still put some emotion in it regardless of it being a "disco" version
No it didn't. It fails on every level
This was huge. I met Amber in Orlando. She put me on the guest list at her concert that night . She also sang a song that ment alot to me. She is so nice, and has a beutiful soul. So many memories and the best songs
You are lucky to have met her. She indeed has a beautiful soul and is so humble.

☝️I dedicate this song to a good friend who is leaving us on Monday June 7 2021 at 10am. , his decision is to go off life support , no more suffering, no more pain, off to a better place. Great collaboration between the three top techno artistes of the 90s with a twist of disco.
Huge US club hit
Had the pleasure of meeting Jocelyn and Amber at a beachfront concert in Wildwood NJ back in the late 90s.
I met Amber too! I wish I could turn back time to when I was 20 again!!😊😊😁😁🤪🤪🤣🤣
You two are lucky! I’m jealous! I really want to meet them, especially Amber! But I can tell just by her online chats with us fans that Amber is a sweetheart.
One of the best remakes of all time!
This is an insult 😂
@@thewhiterussiancocktail813 not at all. I still love the original.
RIP Gordon LightFoot. This is actually his song.
I always knew this song as this disco version. Up until Mr. Lightfoot passed on, I didn't know he wrote this song...
I always imagine myself lipsynching on this while on drag.
perfect alternate version of a classic
This song is so nostalgic for me. I'm in my late 20s and everytime it comes on my Spotify I absolutely crank it. Such a banger beat, always makes me happy
Está música é um ícone! Amo é de arrepiar.
Same, turning 28 this year and hearing this cover instantly takes me back 20 years!
Not the actual song, the real version is by Gordon Lightfoot. This has stripped it of all meaning and heart. Like all shitty pop music does. Listen to the real, actual artistic version maybe
I have no idea why but, this iconic song stirs up so many emotions. A certain: At 63, those iconic dance moves still pop! And ayyyeeeeeeee luvvvvvvv it!!!
Could not be more true
Absolutely
JOHN DAVIS??? Is that you? I skated with a John Davis back in Ice Capades late 70s early 80's.

I've spent a year trying to track this song down after randomly hearing it on the radio. Just caught the tail end of it while driving around in the bush in the middle of the night, found a spot with a slight cell signal, traced the lyrics and finally found this
Awesome song. RIP STUDIO 54.
RIP Gordon Lightfoot and RIP Stars On 54.
Gordon Lightfoot should be inducted into the Rock an Roll Hall of Fame
Strange you posted this a month before he died.

I’m a straight white man, and I fucking love this song.
Cause ur awesome
No offense but what does your sexuality have to do with you liking a song. My wife and I walked into a gay bar in Key West just to dance. No issues just to dance and enjoy a few drinks. Music is for the soul.
Why do you think it makes you gay liking this song? I am straight too!! 😀
do what?
we are not interested in your sexuality mate
Scott Pilgrim Takes Off brought me here
Same
Clásico de clásicos. ¡¡Cuánta nostalgia!!!!
Los mejores momentos de mi vida.
Music from the 90s will never be same
That's because they had actual musical talent. The music industry is going to the dogs now....🙄🥱👎🥴
This is a butchering of a 70s song.
@@bladeemerson318 lol true, Lightfoot's version was goldy
@@bellinamay7171 that's because it's a song from the 70s that they have destroyed

Before I heard this, if someone told me this song could be successfully turned into a disco song, I never would have believed it. But this absolutely rocks
no it doesn't. Gordon's version is the real and ONLY version. This pop shit can fuck right off
Posting on May 1, 2023. Godspeed, Mr. Lightfoot. Look how far your voice went.
The Grand Tour Sand Job brought me here in 2024. I remember listening to this when it came out but didn't know it was a Gordon Lightfoot cover
If you could read my mind, You would be next to me!
I Luv their version.
Whoaaaaaa....
Ufffffff😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
22 years ago if you could read my mind I’d be telling myself to either get off the dance floor or maybe learn some new moves🤣. Brilliant dance track and such good memories👏👍👏
Need to finally watch this movie Studio54.
Lightfoot rocks
The movie 54 brought me here ⌛️
Such powerhouse voices!! I love this song!
I'm kinda ashamed to say that this was the first version of the song I heard before learning it was an original by Gordon Lightfoot, who has just passed away.
Same here
Nothing wrong with that. The song is so brutally honest and well written by Lightfoot, let alone one of the greatest tunes ever, when sung like this it becomes a power anthem of those spurned by lovers when they have done nothing wrong. Still a huge club hit in Canada.
Some remakes of songs I like. This is one I like.
Such better times 1998
Takes me back to my club days ...Those Were Great Times
Love this song
