    I have learned much about riding from videos. But opening your hip is something that I never have understood. This was a very good explanation.

    This really helped me to understand the concept of opening the hip. I tend to shorten my legs at the canter and occasionally lose my stirrups. Opening the hip creates a longer leg and move with my horse my freely. Thank you so much. I enjoyed your video and found it incredibly helpful.

    As an older learner this would have helped me a lot! Kept hearing to "open your hips. More!" Was struggling, thinking that I had 4 babies w/o trouble...but this is as far as my hips (spread) open! Until a new trainer told me "sit up taller, open your hip angle." Oh....duh! That angle.... LOL!

      I also thought it meant exactly this *as in open legs wide!).This is the first time i have actually heard it explained. It's as if trainers think that you know by magic what they are talking about.

    • @trishna_6815
      @trishna_6815 2 года назад

      absolutely, this is what i thought too! I've just started lessons where a got an intro deal on a pack of lessons, but after I've finished I'll be finding someone else because my trainer so often just doesn't actually explain things properly and just expects you to magically know what she means!
      Its ridiculous that there are so many comments of people saying same thing, it seems there is really a bit of an issue with the teaching abilities of quite a lot of trainers

    So very useful this video. Thank you Callie! I'll practice this going into canter and keep cantering. So far after a 8/ 10 steps my horse breaks into trop or stops. I'm almost sure that this is a solution to this problem. I'll let you know what happened

    That's helpful. I've been riding for a while and had probably the best horseman in north America as my teacher, there is a lot of refining that I need. It's difficult to get things smoothed out on horses that don't fill in for the rider. I find myself getting tight through the hip, thigh, and calf. It makes me choppy and as a result the horse gets choppy too. Thank you for the video.

      Hi Dan
      Very common. Pilates for neutral pelvis and core strengthening, yoga and Feldencraise for awareness release and lengthen from sacrum to pelvis and allow hamstrings adds abductor to knee connections to release. Calf to feet. Release ankles. Massage before starting any of the above. Dont bounce through stretches. Just static holds and breathe. Dont stress the body. Breathe and enjoy!

    It’s so sad I went for riding lessons but the trainer never really says anything , but to keep the heels down and and to leave the reigns loose . I never had a horse before or any lessons I learn more from this videos that from the instructor 😢I am 60 years old I think she does not really care but there are no other horse training lessons anywhere and I would love to have my own horse one day.☺️I did fall of the horse not to long ago she said to put the stirrups over the saddle and to sit with the legs just hanging the horse moved sideways and I slid right off site ways 😅on my face and chest I was glad it was in the area😅.Thanks for teaching about the seat.

    As someone who is attempting to get back into riding after over 40 years....I am trying to regain how proper posture and posting feels like. I have lost so much....particularly when it comes to the posting trot. I am using the upper foot in the stirrup to help with the rise and fall....but it feels wrong. I have been told what it should look like and what to do - but it would be far more helpful to describe what the correct process “feels” like. Can you provide some suggestions?

    so i am transitioning form dressage style to hunter and my trainer always says for me to close the hip more to better balance over my heels... I do feel i put brakes on my school horse when I do this especially in canter. how to reconcile the hunter seat with a more closed hip with your teaching here which benefits the horse..I think I am doing what my trrainer says to close the angle of the hi. but your instruction here seems right on about opening the hip.

    Hi Callie, I opened much more my hips when asking my horse for canter and he responded right away departing. Unfortunately I'm not use to the extra speed driving from the hips and was afraid to let my hands go with his neck. So now I'll have to work on keeping my hands following my horses head, any advise? Even tough I know that my balance is what keeps me in the saddle I keep holding a too strong contact since I' ve fallen off and broke my ribs. Once again thank you so much for your help

    So when you take a jump you have to close the hips?? Isn't that quite the same as closing your knees against the saddle?

    • @Ella-zx9mm
      @Ella-zx9mm 6 лет назад +1

      No it’s just when you lean forward into 2 point it closes the angle of your hips and tightens your muscles but no when you are jumping you should never grip with your knees :) hope this helps

    The first thing she should do is get a dressage saddle. She is in an all purpose saddle that’s not designed to open the hip. In the saddle that she’s using it makes it impossible
    Also there’s a lot more to influencing the gait than what she’s talking about
