Hey all, this video had some CRAZY malfunctions with audio. So we did our best to salvage it. So if you don't notice how bad it got then my team here did an amazing job. Thank you to everyone in Cox Towers for coming together to save this one :P
I think Alex is my favorite all around dude. Him sharing his introspections was a really nice moment for me. It's a hard thing to do sometimes. I also tend to do the same thing, even after years of trying to do better. Habits are hard to break.
I honestly didn't care for him originally as sometimes he got a lil too political and such but recently he's been much better and I feel he's fitting into this trio much better than before. I'm def enjoying his presence and contributions a lot more.
So in your opinion he didnt fit in here because of "a lil too political" as in he had a different point of view than you? Woah dude, you better brace yourself when you decide to leave your safe space house :| @@flamedance58

*After seeing Content Warning splash screen* Jesse: Wow, this game is going deep. Yes, as opposed to the usual fun, light-hearted tone and themes of the rest of the series.

@@TheMrrccava Everything after SH4 (except P.T.) I just consider non-canon and a collective fever dream of people imagining what would happen if a bad Silent Hill game ever got made.
This silent hill has some kick to it. My birth mom was just like mc’s mom. Locking me in closets, restricting necessities, cursing at me saying I ruined her life, being mad when I wouldn’t hug her new boyfriends when I first meet them despite me crying. It brought back some bad memories. But it was still entertaining with my three dads❤

Im with Jesse on this one, im convinced that at least *some* of this game is laying down the groundwork for Silent Hill F, at least as far as the flower motifs, mentions of japanese witches and the whole "Silent Hill Is Starting To Affect People Outside The Town" bits are concerned. Thanks for playing this one guys. Its been a bit of a contentious entry to discuss but your vibes on it definitely feel like a breath of fresh air.
Silent Hill has been affecting people outside the town since 3 (though that's because of Heather's secret), or 4 if you don't count 3 due to Heather's secret. An argument could be made for it starting in 2, even, since James went to Silent Hill because of a letter he got from his dead wife.
@@MCOmegaX123Fair enough, it's mainly just having the distinction between the influence of "Psychological Torment Zone" (Silent Hill 2, certain aspects of 4) and the more deliberate "Cult In Search Of Their Heaven" influence (1, 3, other aspects of 4).
@@miguelnewmexico8641 Silent Hill 4 has multiple people experiencing the same thing together, trying to deal with a threat from another real person using the Otherworld for their own ends. The Order from SH1 are real and consistent across the series. Most Silent Hills aren't just about someone's personal journey. SH2 and this game are for sure though.
@@miguelnewmexico8641 Yes. There's basically two types of Silent Hills - the "it's all in your heaaaaaaaaad" psychology babble that was perfected by Silent Hill 2 and mangled by everybody else, and the "yo this place is CURSED" cult hellscape in Silent Hill 1, 3, and 4. The main antagonists of Silent Hill 1 were cultists who sold drugs, who were defeated by Harry Mason and him shooting the devil with a rifle. The main antagonist of 3 was remnants of said cult that were defeated by weaponized abortion. Silent Hill 4 is just ghosts.

Hello, tarot meanings here. I had to look up that card layout it is apparently known as the relationship circle. The Center card 1 is your current situation, the bottom card 2 is a major influence from the past. Bottom left 3 is what is standing in the way of the relationship, bottom right 4 is what’s acting in favor of the relationship. Top left 5 is something you should be aware of in this relation, top right 6 is what you can do to help it. And the top card 7 is the outcome. Card 1 we have the sun reversed, which is about connecting to your inner child and being overly optimistic. Kind of toxic positivity vibes. Card 2 of that spread, we have the emperor reversed, which means domination, excessive control, and inflexibility. Card 3 is the chariot tends to be about control and action, and often comes with the question of: Are you the one driving your life or is it someone else? Card 4 is the devil with Jesse already covered. Card 5 The hermit is about solitude and introspection. 6 is is the hanged man which is about surrendering, and finding new perspectives on things. At 7, we have the star, which is about Hope, faith, spirituality, and finding purpose
@48:03 That “Contagion” Davis is talking about about is called The Romanticized Tortured Artist Syndrome. And he’s absolutely correct that teenagers are more likely to view in a positive light than negative. It’s because biologically their brain’s Prefrontal Cortex area (Rationalization, Long-Term planning, Subjective Morals & Consequences) hasn’t finished developing yet. So instead, the most active neurons in the parts of a teens brain is in the Amygdala (Intense Emotions, Objective Morality, & Fight, Flight, or Freeze Response) That’s not even counting the metric-ton of hormones raging through their body either. The SGS’ comment was kind spot on: “Teenagehood really is the ‘Silent Hill’-emotional purgatory of one’s Life.” Or as Alice Cooper’s “I’m Eighteen” said: I’ve got a baby’s brain and an old man’s heart.
@@drchicken2477 Yeah, that's how you tell OP is chatting shit. Of course you can delve deep into neurology but it still doesn't really explain much, evident by any actual neurologist telling you that they know what the brain does - but not why. We evolved to have fight/flight/freeze responses, anxiety & emotions to protect us and make more babies, just like animals. But we didn't evolve with morals and ethics. Those are made up societal constructs, which inform personal morality. This of course implies there is no 'objective morality'. People who think such a thing exist doesn't understand law at all, or are religious. Both also societal constructs. Btw, not even saying some convoluted shit like 'muhh morals don't exist'. No, of course they do and are necessary. But they aren't black and white. Yours and societies' morals can change day to day. The concept of thinking there is an 'objective morality' system is incredibly dangerous - see every single war.
Davis: Isn't static a thing in Silent Hill? Alex: There's not that much continuity across the games My dude the radio static when enemies are near is like the one thing that is continuous through at least the classic SH games lol
@@missmoon993 I added that comment because I remember the classic ones more than the games after SH4, but after double checking, the radio static is in all of the main series games, and the phone static here is Short Messages equivalent of it. Either way, the point was that Davis made a good observation, and Alex hand waved it away.
I don't know exactly how it's found, but in a different playthrough I've seen, there is literally an article that can be found explaining the "Silent Hill Phenomenon" or some such, a sort of mental condition based on experiences people had originally near and named after the town of SH, basically confirming the emotional purgatory angle, & also the devs writing themselves the perfect freedom to set the games anywhere they want.
I haven't played 4, but of the other Team Silent games it's just 2 that has that, because 1 and 3 are not about any kind of "facing your guilt" or whatever, it's about struggling through a hellish paranormal nightmare
I really love you guys discussing your experiences and interpretation of how social media impacts people. I'm used to coming here for the laughs or mystery solving, but it was also nice to hear some thoughts like that :)
"The strongest animals don't form groups" is quite possibly the DUMBEST quote I've ever heard. Other than people themselves, is anyone going to tell her about lions, gorillas, elephants, and killer whales- just to name a few. Even insects that colonize, swarm, or invade can do the worst damage to their environment and the things in it.
On the other hand "Those who betray themselves to fit in a group are pathetic... There's no beauty in living like that" is a good one, don't pretend to be something you're not and act like you're interested in something just to make friends with a group of people who wouldn't associate with you otherwise. Whether its dating or making friends, be yourself and look for people who'll like the real you.

I think Jesse should put together a SGS bingo card merch. Like one square will be "Davis one-liner when he finds a shotgun." Another will be "Alex says 'Hello?' in response to something horrifying." "Jesse hunts for lore." "Character was dead the entire time." "PT loop." "Hot takes on movies." "Davis references Smallville." "Davis references Underworld." "Davis references any novelizations"

Yeah, I felt the same way. Like she couldn't form connections with real people so instead she tries to depict them through art, that way she can understand that version of them.
At the end y'all are talking about the art direction and narrative and all that, but that last chase scene was such good interactive horror. Like anyone who does horror video games has done chase scenes before, by now gamers are canny, and once you "solve" the chase it becomes less scary because it's just a puzzle. But you guys figured out the puzzle of that chase you were still pins and needles jumping every time you glimpsed the monster. Even after you figured it out your fear was still interfering with finding the solution. Against the Scary Game Squad, I think that's an accomplishment! The maze was just the right mix of complex and comprehensible, with twisty turns but also identifiable room themes, the monster's ability to jump through walls kept you on your toes, the proximal phone static gave your that "footsteps right behind you" sensation without requiring you to look back, the giggling coming out of the joycon was just straight up creepy... It's a feat of game design.
Yall, PLEASE give Visage another shot! Follow a walkthrough if you want, the twists and turns and visuals the game throws at you has made it among my favorite ever. WAY better than the initial demo yall played
Man, it irritates me that even if it's supposed to be in Germany, the houses, the schools etc. are clearly American and not German at all. As an example, German houses don't have wall closets, and German school hallways are not littered with lockers like that. The doors, the school's layout... def. not German.
Honestly I thought that crackling was a part of the game until about 2 hours in when I read Jesse's comment, wondering why they never spoke about it. I didn't have an enjoyable silent hill experience on my 2024 bingo card but here we go.
If only the Developers took it as seriously.... I'm pretty dissatisfied with just how... Basic, and surface level everything felt. It felt like someone who had never read about or experienced any of these things but only seen TV shows on them trying to tell a story about it.
Jesse immediately remarks that the marks on the wall are likely tally marks left by a looping Anita but I can't help but think it reminds me of the hole in the wall in Silent Hill 4 growing bigger as you progress.
Something profound that I think about a lot is how 90% of people who get bullied in school are genuinely just people. Like, there's nothing really wrong about them--they might just be a little more introverted or have a strange fixiation on something that's not the norm. But ultimately, they're just kids. There was a teacher who noticed kids bulling a girl for being ugly and she said something like, "she looks no different from any other third-grader. They're just doing it to be cruel." and that's what I think about a lot.
Bullies pick on who is vulnerable or lonely. It's part of our nature and the reason kids do it is because you haven't been taught to ignore it or hide it just yet. If you don't have many friends they're very likely to target you because they think that means you're vulnerable. The moment you show you aren't they quit. It's why they try to use things that make you feel alone too like trying to make it out that you're some weakling or whatever it may be if you'd go tell on them. Adults do all of this too but success rate is much lower and doesn't get labeled as "bullying" anymore but instead manipulation.
Edit: 33:30 "I lost followers again..." I actually had to replay that line multiple times just to hear how crazy this was, definitely a Gen Z thing. Wow. All this game does is make me wish P.T. was more than just a playable teaser. For a free game, I think this was ok. Although I'm worried how much these short stand-alone Silent Hill games will sell if Konami decides to take that business model (iirc the Dark Pictures Anthology did not sell well). It seems like game's themes will resonate more with the current generation (see edited comment), and if that's what they were going for then good job to them. It could use a bit more subtlety, like during the mother's section of the game (the delivery of her lines was definitely something).
These running segments are real Silent Hill Shattered Memories plot mechanics where you see flashes of meaningful or symbolic things as you run past them with no time to really think about it. But just enough to get the gist like all the beer bottles on the child's dressing drawers.
Story analysis: Anita was suffering from some kind of cluster B disorder and this is a cycle of behavior that she'll repeat. The loops in the levels are representative of both the loops in her anxious mind and the the repetition of needing external validation. I had an inkling that this might explain things, but then at the end when the clutter is blown away by a gust of wind centered on Anita, it seemed clear that this was a metaphor for mental clarity from the dispelled depression.
Gentlemen, pausing the vid about 9 minutes in just to say that your banter is fantastic, and I'm beyond delighted that SGS is in my feed again. Thanks for continuing to provide some of the funniest and most engaging "let's play" content on the site.
As someone who has gone through alot of teenage suicide based trauma, that ending got me good. Had a big old cry, its a tough story, but its all about breaking the cycles and not feeding into the contagiousness of despair like that, at least in my mind anyway. Its so easy to fall into that pit and drag everyone down around with you at that age. Good stuff!
I wanted to thank you guys for being so respectful and serious about the subject matter. It's easy as adults to minimize what teenagers feel, especially when it comes to teenage girls so it meant a lot that you guys treated Anita's storyline and thoughts with some gravity. Part of being a depressed teenager is often being "cringy" in the way you express things, but that doesn't mean that their emotions are any less valid or their trauma less real. I also respect that the game was able to incorporate the social media aspect without shaming teenage girls for posting selfies or seeking validation and without just boiling it down to "phone=bad". As much as social media is harming Anita, her phone is also her literal lifeline through the game, and her connection to Amelia through that phone is what ultimately saves her. I think the game was a little on-the-nose at times, but sometimes it's best to be blunt rather than dodging around the issue with euphemisms and metaphors. I don't know if I would want all following games to be EXACTLY this straightforward, but the idea of letting different writers create short stories with unique perspectives on the Silent Hill universe is promising
It genuinely means so much to me to hear these nice boys taking the suicide/self-harm topics seriously and with such understanding. It's sad that it's not the norm, but that just means that it means so much more when creators are kind. Much appreciation, SGS.
obviously not finished with it yet but it's so funny to me that this game is supposed to play in germany and yet it uses high school as a term or even the school it shows are so very ungerman lol
41:00 the hole is supposed to be a reference to the 4th game with the hole in room 302 getting bigger each time Henry falls deeper into Silent Hill (if I remember correctly)

1:03:54 as someone who isn’t strongly versed in tarot, this is specific spread seems to be a reading that represents the cycle of depression especially one for some one who is contemplating unaliving :/
It’s basically that, the spread is one where it’s asking shadow work questions. Like what’s holding you back from your higher self? Or it shows what outcome could happen if you do.
@@Hibari787 thank you for that insight!!! I did like a ten minute google and cross referenced the information I found on the spread and the meaning of the cards but to actually hear from someone with more knowledge on the subject is awesome
17:03 I doubt you'll read this Alex, but as someone who has his own 'rehearsal scars,' the first step that needs to be taken in order to create an environment where people feel comfortable expressing such severe problems as the ones which would push said individual to such an extreme is to help foster a culture where empathy replaces stigma; and although you only briefly covered the topic, you definitely seem to be the kind of person who naturally pushes for that kind of world. Good job. Even if you don't have the formal training, you're clearly putting out a net positive for the overall mental health of those whom you affect. Not to get all parasocial or anything, but it was very heartwarming to hear such a heavy bit of commentary from the man who is still bar none the funniest on the Squad (no offense, Jesse--you're the brains and the Squad would never have materialized without you; and as we all know, Davis is the Wild Card).
I legit was worried for a second that this ripped off JJ but I'm so glad that like, they're just similair and it doesn't feel like theft. halfway through I was like "This does feel like JJ from Emily's point of view."
@@erinlewis6901 yep, I very much meant it in a that in a good way. Both games are dealing with their heavy subject matters with that sense of empathy to it instead of just judgement or pity.
Wow. FMV mixed in? Cool. Creepy as heck and giving lots of feels about the too real subjects? Yes. I feel for kids these days. Growing up pre-social media was no cake walk but wow.
Relfections are rarely made, because they are REALLY hard to make, there are several things that used as shortcuts, but they are taking a lot of resources for that. Latest tech is able to create relfections sort of fine, but having minimum GPU requirements of 4090 is a tad bit much.
I could forgive so much of this game if it didn't have that unbearable breathy dialogue that takes forever to get out. I don't know when that became popular but no one talks like that. Madison was like that too, but at least that game didn't use the main character's voice actor nearly as often.
To give you guys a reading for 1:04:28 tarot cards... I will try my best but it's hard not knowing the original question or the particular spread type, thank goodness it was all major arcana cards, it made it easier to identify! Starting at top left: The Hermit - All about contemplation and looking inward, as title suggest - also isolation. The Star - Rebirth, faith, combined with the hermit, maybe sort of looking for hope inside yourself, finding that faith that things get better. The Hanging Man - Sacrifice, and sort of acceptance in the fact that to move forward you sometimes need to release things. (Now I haven't finished the video so I might be completely off but the top arc of the cards is giving me Maya's story. Maybe she felt alone despite her following, her speaking of cherry blossoms that fall beautifully almost gives her death a sort of martyrdom feeling, but her art has so much beauty and hope.) The Sun reversed - quite literally symbolises clouds blocking out the rays of sun, joy being overshadowed by depression, seeing as it's the card in the centre it kind of is what all three girl's stories are about (Now if the top arc is Maya I feel like the bottom one is definitely Amelie) The Chariot - determination, knowing what you want and taking life into your hands to get it (her working hard towards her university dream) The Emperor (I think??) reversed - a male figure in all it's negative traits of coldness The Devil reversed - for the devil reversed together with the emperor it's giving me those deepest, darkest parts unshackled within the emperor male figure, which would give you Amelie's brother character
Coming back again to say that I really appreciate the guys taking this game as it is rather than immediately belittling or shitting on it. Its delivery leaves a lot to be desired, the chase scenes did feel shoehorned in when it comes to pacing and gameplay, and I wish some elements of the story itself had been developed a little more (not that everything needs to be spelled out in bold and spoonfed) but I find some of the themes it explores as to the experience of navigating friendships, privacy, self perception, and mental health in the digital age quite effective. Psychological horror has been exhausted, PT fatigue is valid, and maybe this game would have received less hate if it hadn't been a Silent Hill title, but I feel it's been panned more than it deserves to be.
As someone who has a lot of those scars: it's so complicated...the hotlines are deeply flawed. I'm sure y'all know how borked healthcare is in the US. i always ended up having those scars out of some desire to control ANYTHING. idk just givin some engagement.
I'm sorry to hear that you've gone through that. But, you know, the secret to happiness is two things. 1: Realizing that you do always have control over the most important thing... your mind. No matter what happens *to* you, you always have control over how you *REACT* to it. 2: Learning to relinquish control, to be okay without it, happy just blowing with the wind... will give you a much greater sense of freedom. The human desire for "control" is a total illusion.
@@TheOnlyGhxst Love how you get number 2 exactly right, yet still deliver the fuck-up that is number 1. If you know humans cannot actually have complete control over anything, why oh why do you still tell someone 'the one thing you have control over is your mind'. Did you not clock that we can't control that either buddy?? Come on man (or person), you were so damned close to giving actual decent advice, all you gotta do is give this a bigger think-through... Controlling our reaction to things is actually pretty far off for many people, in particular those with existing mental health issues or neurodivergence. It's also something the majority of people do in *incredibly* unhealthy ways, many of which are implicitly or explicitly normalized by our culture and society, so even those who manage to 'control' their reactions to _some_ things _some_ times, are often actively fucking things up by how they do so. What matters most is how you act, not how you react: first accepting that you won't always be able to act about things, or won't have the choices you wish, or the results you hoped, then understanding what's best to do within those actions that are available to you, then finding out what help you can seek out to accomplish things that are beyond your available actions.
@@BalthorYT I would be classified as a neurodivergent person myself, and yes, we all have the ability to control how we react to things, or to at least try to. Pretty much everything is a reaction. When you wake up you get to choose what your first conscious thought of the day is. When you stub your toe, you get to choose whether you audibly cry out in pain, or curse, or handle it another way. Even someone who is entirely vegetableized and stuck in a hospital bed with only their thoughts, has the ability to control their reaction to that situation, and how they decide to think about it.
@@TheOnlyGhxst I think the issue here might be nomenclature. Most of the things you're talking about can't really be considered 'reactions' in any meaningful way, they are simply actions and you have more time and presence of mind to process them. Except the 'stubbing your toe' one, that one is a reaction and it's also the least important thing to worry about, given that most likely you will not get any sort of "choice" and will instinctively respond when it happens. If you stub your toe, your priorities should be what actions you can take about what happened, what actions, if any, you may need to take about the immediate consequences of your reaction, and what actions, if any, you should take about the reaction itself, in that order. There's no point in worrying about you instinctively cursing out loudly when you stubbed your toe because 'it's wrong' or some shit like that, for example. Is it something that had any negative impact on your surroundings? Is it something that helped or made you feel better about the situation? That's what matters. And changing that is less about having 'control over your reactions' and more about taking account of things and acting accordingly. The answer more likely lies in changing the root cause of the situation or the root cause of your attitude towards it than the reaction in itself. We don't have the ability to have constant and complete control over anything. Not even our actions, much less our reactions. Focusing on control is inherently toxic and will only lead to making things worse in the long run - whether it's through direct self harm or through wasting time and effort on addressing secondary issues instead of root causes. Sure, you should always try to exercise some of control over your reactions, like not yelling at someone for getting something wrong, but you'll never 'fix' that by worrying about the reaction, nor about wanting to have more control over it.
The mom's dialogue in this game makes it sound like she regrets going to a diploma mill for a master's in Poetry, never learned subtext, and she's taking it out on her kids.
okay so im 24 now and still have severe mental health issues, but i and many of my loved ones had attempted or committed suicide in high school. Not feeling loved or seen by the people you care about, severe codependency due to various trauma, jealousy over your peers successes so you dont see your own. All of your feelings are so big and we arent taught how to cope and deal with these feelings in a healthy manner. This whole thing was so heavy. i just finished your silent hill2 playthrough and am obsessed with this game now; you said you should play the room next... but you never did :( take me to our special place, and play more silent hill! ❤
The papers on the door are Ofuda! They are talismans from Shinto that do various things. I can't read them because a lot are too damaged and it's very blurry, but some could be warding talismans or evil-banishing talismans, given their presence in a Silent Hill game. Edit: The one on the very bottom, Google Lens tells me, is a safe delivery charm. For pregnant women? The one above and to the left of that is a talisman for the protection of children. The top one says "Protection of treasure?"
Being someone raised by an abusive mother, this game almost felt like... A parody? Not sure the right word for it. I think it's the unnatural voice acting that took me out of it. Also, in the end Anita got exactly what she wanted in the beginning - Amelie all to herself. Kind of a weird message to end with in a game like this 😅
It's a japanese game with japanese directors working on a free game, you can't expect too much in terms of realism and accuracy, especially in the world of Silent Hill.
I know it's become popular to hate on this, but I don't think it's as bad as people say. It takes some big swings at subjects that most games, especially from big franchises in AAA games, won't touch. It's far from perfect, but I applaud the ambition.
You guys are fairly positive about how you saw this game, which is in line with most of your opinions. Creatives have it rough one way or another, I hope the dev team has a chance to do something bigger or maybe more thought out.
This very much reminds me of the 1999 anime serial experiments lain. It is about the existential problem of losing yourself in a digital persona. And it has themes of unaliving. That show was so ahead of it's time because the internet was just blossoming, but I think it's much more relatable 20 years later than it was when I saw it airing on tech TV.
"When you die, you just return to the great LEGO brick bucket that is the universe.", is one of the most insane things I've ever heard Davis say. I love it.
davis describing getting a like on a post like eating a french fry was so accurate that it caught me off guard (and i really appreciated alex's thoughts throughout the playthrough
I have so many scars all over my body from self harm. Playing this game was relatable in ways. And let me tell you..The reason so many of us turn to that kind of stuff is the people, that should listen, don't. I recently went to a doctor to get some medication help (finally got the courage and insurance to do so) and he told me that my issues were pretty much fake and medication doesn't ever work and I should meditate instead. Totally shot me down. I left so upset and defeated. Now it'll probably be another 20 years before I seek help again. Anyway..Glad to see SH back. Great video guys! edit- and to the question of "how do these storylines relate" they do. Trust me. As someone who had no dad and an abusive mother growing up, they 100% do. You're always wanting someone to notice you. You cling to the little friends you have and doubt so many things people do/say.
Universität- seinführung.. like really... let a local have look at your stuff for one second if you try to set your game in a place and you have the resources
Yeah... Also the entire plot point "my parents are bankrupt, I can't go to college!" was really strange for a story supposedly taking place in Germany. Isn't BAföG a thing? 😅
Oooh boy. Start off with saying I loved watching you guys play this, and was interested in each of your thoughts and thought processees. But man. That was rough. Hard watch for me, I cut myself fairly often in HS and had a couple legit attempts that didnt take. Makes me feel like the writers for this had close family/friends that killed themselves, or were just good at research because they did an excellent job. Captured the loneliness and self destructive cycles pretty damn perfectly. The symbolism of getting stuck in your own head maze while being chased by guilt-demons is pretty fucking accurate imo. The child abuse being something that lurks in the corners of your head and never quite going away, just everything they did was pretty well done. This is a SH that will stick with me for a long time I feel. And I also think it was about the perfect length for a horror game exploring hard topics like this. Any longer and it would start to get frustrating dealing with the ghost. Time for a palette cleanser game for me for sure tho lol Love you guys, and look forward to the next SGS
the themes of the game are well done but i wonder why they even bothered to set it in a german city when all the visuals are fully americanized? the school is american, the closet is american, the bullies with their jock jackets are american etc etc why not just say it’s an american town? this really kept throwing me off n created a weird dissonance
POTENTIAL SPOILER I'm surprised they did not notice that the drawing of the main character and friend, was "mirrored" so that the branches of blossom could come from a central drawing. As in a 3 piece drawing of all three girls. (I haven't finished the vid yet) Entirely wrong... BUT it was a guess
this is the scariest horror ive ever seen in a video. something about being followed loudly and running away feals REALY primal to me. My Fucking heart is pounding every time .
I feel like silent hill itself, like the place, despite being terrifying, was never meant to be a horrible place. If you think about the SH2 and this one has a happy ending (well a happy ending available), I think silent hill was always meant to be a place that allowed you to face your demons and your darkness. Like this loop, every time you “lost” to them, it started you over from the beginning till you could finally overcome your darkness. The emotional purgatory thing is definitely real considering it’s different for everyone and it’s made from people’s regrets and guilts, but I think it’s something you’re supposed to be able to overcome. I don’t know, maybe the ambiguity of silent hill itself is one of the reasons why I always like it when you get a happy ending in them

@@Left4Donut it's not that simple because of the jirard situation Alex has more time or he would be busy as well and yes jirard is probably the most busy out of all of them.
But the biggest difference is that Jesse has actually made a schedule to film where before they didn't have any.
Now we need a MST3000 version with the boys watch/Riffing on B horror movies.

Thanks for playing this one guys. Its been a bit of a contentious entry to discuss but your vibes on it definitely feel like a breath of fresh air.
It's a tech demo for it
Silent Hill has been affecting people outside the town since 3 (though that's because of Heather's secret), or 4 if you don't count 3 due to Heather's secret. An argument could be made for it starting in 2, even, since James went to Silent Hill because of a letter he got from his dead wife.
For context on 4, iirc Henry's building is in Brahms, the neighboring town.

@32:00 I think he is thinking of "Comparison is the thief of joy."
Davis' Lego bucket analogy for the continuation of life after death was sort of beautiful though?
"I want to be strong on my own, without a group."
"If there were only someone who would understand that ..."
Oh the irony
Lines up with the modern “girl boss”, and I say that as a woman.
The SGS’ comment was kind spot on: “Teenagehood really is the ‘Silent Hill’-emotional purgatory of one’s Life.”
Or as Alice Cooper’s “I’m Eighteen” said: I’ve got a baby’s brain and an old man’s heart.
"objective morality"
Alex: There's not that much continuity across the games
My dude the radio static when enemies are near is like the one thing that is continuous through at least the classic SH games lol
'at least the classic sh games' there you go? so he still spoke the truth.
@@missmoon993 I added that comment because I remember the classic ones more than the games after SH4, but after double checking, the radio static is in all of the main series games, and the phone static here is Short Messages equivalent of it.
Either way, the point was that Davis made a good observation, and Alex hand waved it away.
There use yo be continuity. Noe everyone just thinks Silent Hill is some kind of emotional purgatory in your head facing your personal guilt
All the Silent Hills have a "You learn to forgive/better yourself" ending. It's normally the Good+ one.
I agree. Even in nature the loner gets dropped first.
On the other hand "Those who betray themselves to fit in a group are pathetic... There's no beauty in living like that" is a good one, don't pretend to be something you're not and act like you're interested in something just to make friends with a group of people who wouldn't associate with you otherwise. Whether its dating or making friends, be yourself and look for people who'll like the real you.
i mean, considering the protagonist is a teen i can see very easily any teen believing that and having to learn that it's false. there's a reason terms like alpha and lone wolf are so common even among grown ass men when they are objectively false
@@faeb.9618I agree, it's the perfect type of quote for a depressed teen. I remember in high school I thought that the height of strength was being stoic forever and not talking about your feelings no matter how depressed you are. I probably would've really resonated with Anita 😅

I feel like that final picture, is depicting how Maya felt she was the one on the outside looking in their friendship..
It's been a while since Jesse dropped a "GARBAGE DAY" for us. Hits as good as ever.
RIght? It really brought me back to those early videos
I'm really grateful for how seriously you took the themes of this game. It means a lot. Thank you.
If only the Developers took it as seriously.... I'm pretty dissatisfied with just how... Basic, and surface level everything felt. It felt like someone who had never read about or experienced any of these things but only seen TV shows on them trying to tell a story about it.
I always love to see the Scary Game Squad putting out videos.
I love the DualSense, the stuff different games do with vibrations/haptics is a lot of fun
I like that the phone static acts as the SH radio detecting how close the monster is
Jesse immediately remarks that the marks on the wall are likely tally marks left by a looping Anita but I can't help but think it reminds me of the hole in the wall in Silent Hill 4 growing bigger as you progress.
It could use a bit more subtlety, like during the mother's section of the game (the delivery of her lines was definitely something).
i prefer to think of it as a "person afraid of the sun" thing, i don't want to pigeonhole an entire generation.
This is a tech demo for F
The dark pictures anthology is still going pretty strong
For a free game, this was awesome. Much love, scary squad.
As the daughter of a 17yo way too soon mother, now I'm 30... wow this game hits hard

I doubt you'll read this Alex, but as someone who has his own 'rehearsal scars,' the first step that needs to be taken in order to create an environment where people feel comfortable expressing such severe problems as the ones which would push said individual to such an extreme is to help foster a culture where empathy replaces stigma; and although you only briefly covered the topic, you definitely seem to be the kind of person who naturally pushes for that kind of world.

Relfections are rarely made, because they are REALLY hard to make, there are several things that used as shortcuts, but they are taking a lot of resources for that. Latest tech is able to create relfections sort of fine, but having minimum GPU requirements of 4090 is a tad bit much.
"The strongest animals don't form groups"
One word: Elephants.
I could forgive so much of this game if it didn't have that unbearable breathy dialogue that takes forever to get out. I don't know when that became popular but no one talks like that. Madison was like that too, but at least that game didn't use the main character's voice actor nearly as often.
This game should be called ‘Silent Hill: The Gen Z high school experience.’
I honestly like when commentary is blunt but not hamfisted.🧐
To give you guys a reading for 1:04:28 tarot cards... I will try my best but it's hard not knowing the original question or the particular spread type, thank goodness it was all major arcana cards, it made it easier to identify!
Starting at top left:
The Hermit - All about contemplation and looking inward, as title suggest - also isolation.
Maybe she felt alone despite her following, her speaking of cherry blossoms that fall beautifully almost gives her death a sort of martyrdom feeling, but her art has so much beauty and hope.)
The Sun reversed - quite literally symbolises clouds blocking out the rays of sun, joy being overshadowed by depression, seeing as it's the card in the centre it kind of is what all three girl's stories are about
(Now if the top arc is Maya I feel like the bottom one is definitely Amelie)
The Chariot - determination, knowing what you want and taking life into your hands to get it (her working hard towards her university dream)
The Emperor (I think??) reversed - a male figure in all it's negative traits of coldness
The Devil reversed - for the devil reversed together with the emperor it's giving me those deepest, darkest parts unshackled within the emperor male figure, which would give you Amelie's brother character
They should've had her hair flopping in front of the 1st person cam when you turn.
The Squad are goated, basically, and I love them!
When she got a text that basically said lets hang out, i almost puked. Sometimes "lets hang out" was all it took to not die. and the willingness to say yes. She glorified suicide. She wanted to be part of something beautiful, stay beautiful. thats not how it works though. you miss everything beautiful you could have in the future. I think the wind knocking her back was maya forgiving her.
Also the monster in this was so fucking amazing. its hard to create a monster thats feminine rage
Love falling asleep to sgs just to wake up to a new episode of the squad
Oh, samesies!
Dude Im loving all these SGS videos we are getting. Thanks!
I'm more upset about the door animations than anything else.I know they are metal doors, but it shouldn't be a full body workout that involves flailing your POV around like a balloon in the wind every single time.
1:57:10 "Omg, the controller died" "That's what happened" Silent Hill: emotional *and* electronic purgatory 🎮
i just finished your silent hill2 playthrough and am obsessed with this game now; you said you should play the room next... but you never did :( take me to our special place, and play more silent hill!
I love it.
shout out to alex hearing the words "reverse it" and like a reflex quoting Work It by Missy Elliot
Amazing story kept me captivated through the entire game
davis describing getting a like on a post like eating a french fry was so accurate that it caught me off guard (and i really appreciated alex's thoughts throughout the playthrough
this really puts dog with a blog into perspective :(
Poor dog
Ash Ketchum really changed after pokemon
Was it just clever editing that swapped Davis for Alex in the final maze run or am I missing something?
Universität-
seinführung..
like really... let a local have look at your stuff for one second if you try to set your game in a place and you have the resources
Yeah... Also the entire plot point "my parents are bankrupt, I can't go to college!" was really strange for a story supposedly taking place in Germany. Isn't BAföG a thing? 😅
I was waiting for this game!
Thank you for weekly SGS boys!❤
Alex you're deffo a big shot celeb in my eyes.
Way bigger than Lerigot!
Time for a palette cleanser game for me for sure tho lol
Love you guys, and look forward to the next SGS
nothing but love for every sgs upload
2:21:48 I had not caught what had happened with Davis and him talking again startled me
the themes of the game are well done but i wonder why they even bothered to set it in a german city when all the visuals are fully americanized?
the school is american, the closet is american, the bullies with their jock jackets are american etc etc
why not just say it’s an american town? this really kept throwing me off n created a weird dissonance
Another SGS video? And its 2hrs long. A blessed week
POTENTIAL SPOILER
I'm surprised they did not notice that the drawing of the main character and friend, was "mirrored" so that the branches of blossom could come from a central drawing. As in a 3 piece drawing of all three girls. (I haven't finished the vid yet)
Entirely wrong...
