In my opinion, i think it goes like this:
Pineapple resembles life because it's the fruit that "gives life" to the people who eat it (the chunk slice color explains it). The pineapple is also the same as the sunshine which actually is the advent of life.
Mushroom is a fungus, apparently came from a decayed matter, that is why Peppertiti referred to it as death.
