In RB/FRLG, he has 3 pokemon from the same evolution line when Kanto has 33 poison types. That is absolutely inexcusable. In Yellow, all of his three pokemon are from the same evolution line, which is still inexcusable. I'd argue there is no need for Kadabra even with her having a trade evo as her ace. Also, I get that Venomoth has a lot of psychic moves, but just no. Give Sabrina her LGPE team or swap something out with Exeggutor or Hypno. Blaine- Using two separate duplicate evolution lines is baffling when Kanto has such a strong selection of fire types. Make it his LGPE team and we're set. Giovanni- No Persian in any of his teams. I don't care if he's a Mafia leader. Second, why does he have both a Rhydon and a Rhyhorn in Red and Blue? Also, why does the Rhydon fucking devolve into a Rhyhorn in FRLG? Replace the Rhyhorn with either Sandslash or Marowak. Thankfully a lot of the fixes were just make these gyms their LGPE versions, but being the first gen still isn't an excuse when they had the much more possibility of variety
0:07 Only Unova's Gym Leaders do. Literally, they come to assist you during Team Plasma's scheme, while every other regions' Gym Leaders just sit on their butts waiting for you to challenge them.
While the intent is absolutely correct, giving duplicates just for sake representation is a terrible idea. You end up making the team arguably more boring then before. If the Gym leader has run out of Pokémon from their region, they should be able to use ones from other regions.
I can fully see and understand this opinion however I decided to let the idea of 'duplicates' slide because of these reasons/in response to your response. A. I disagree that it makes it more boring. If I'm playing the RSE games for the first times, I want to see brand new Pokémon. I don't want to see Roxanne use 2 Geodudes, a Pokémon I've had the past 6 years all in my face whenever I have to go through a cave or battle someone. Id rather take duplicates from the newer region than older ones. B. The concept of 'duplicates' is NOTHING new to the Pokémon franchise. It's a concept that's been a thing since the GSC games. While I can agree that its a bit of a lazy idea, its something that the creators themselves have never shyed away from, so I don't think me doing it is necessarily a boring idea but I can agree it does make it in some way lazy for some of the gym leaders C. Simply just the fact that if I gave them old Pokémon with no good reason, then this sort of "What If" styled video wouldn't be a "What If" video in the first place. I tried my best to give Pokémon from older generations if they made sense, case and point with Roark. Overall I appreciate the opinion and hope you enjoyed the video!!
@@EganMediaVideosThank you for listening, it's so difficult on the internet to just "agree to disagree" and stay on positive mood. We both have the same intentions, just different opinions on the solution.
@@MidoriNatsume It's sort of a rarity to see now a days on the internet but I will say how you went about writing your comment was perfect, if you scroll through here there are some comments that just don't try or give any constructive criticism so I don't treat them as nicely as I did yours!!!
If you are to have duplicates, I'd want them both to do different roles. For example, you could have both an Explosion/Destiny Bond Driftblim, and a Will 'O' Wisp+Hex Driftblim on the same team if you want. I think it's a cool idea to have two of the same species with different roles. Though I also think that Gym Leaders shouldn't just be shackled to their own region for Pokemon.
I agree with most of these besides when you change the teams to have duplicates, I like that you are prioritizing newer pokemon but I would prefer having some older ones over duplicates any day.
I think letting Bugsy keep Scyther works While Scyther himself isn't Gen 2, his evolution Scizor is, so I say it still counts Same reason why i like to give Mismagius to Morty (HGSS) since it evolves from a Gen 2 Mon
i like the video man keep it up! if i had to say one thing i definitely feel like there’s a lottt of repeated pokémon on these teams, like flannery having 2 numels AND a camerupt, or normal having 2 slakings and vigoroths when exploud and linoone are right there
I feel like while wanting new rep for aces is good, going like double ups on lines or even exact Pokemon out of not wanting to use old ones is the exact kind of thinking that normally these style of videos tear into as bad, lazy, and the thing that makes you question why they even used that type if they weren’t gonna give variety
My thoughts: - Give Bugsy maybe a Ledian instead of a Ledyba, also a Pineco instead of a Spinarak. - Give Falkner a Natu and Noctowl as his 2 Pokemon. - Give Pryce a Sneasel instead of Swinub, and keep the Dewgong and give it water-type attacks. - Give Norman a Spinda, Linoone, Vigoroth, Slaking, and Loudred - Give Valerie an Aromatisse: she has a Spritzee in the anime
If you want, you can give a Gumshoos to Lary. It is a Alola mon but the dex said that they came from other region to stop the Rattata peste, so we can assume that it came from Paldea. No other region had this pokemon
It'd be nice if more gym leaders had diverse teams or a theme not necessarily type based. Cynthia & Blue r good examples of this as they were strong & couldn't really be swept by one Pokemon
So the design philosophy was to have them better represent the regions in which they are from. I hope this answers the question and if not please feel free to re-iterate as I will gladly answer
I feel like them using pokemon from their general area would be better, like the surrounding caves and routes instead of solely new pokemon, that way they feel like they interact more with the area, kinda like a professional of a trainer class. Though I agree with not rehashing completely older gen pokemon like Watson and that sinnoh rock dude. But I'm general I think gym leaders would be better if they represented an area and not a type.
Gen 1 there is lot of issues that could be fixed. Lets go did a great job for example. Misty is using 2 mons of the same line when water is one of the top 2 most abundant types. Koga using 3 venonats in yellow or 3 koffing line in red and blue when poison isnt the 3rd most reped type. Blaine could has 2 lines repeated when he has 3 other options that arent starters.
I think honestly I'm mostly fine with Kabu's team since he does have a connection to Kanto. So I would have let him keep at least one Kanto mon and switching the other with a Carkol. So his team will consist of Ninetails/Arcanine, Carkol & Sizzlipede depending on the game
I wouldve really liked to see move sets and levels for these updated teams but i still really liked this video! Though i feel norman shouldve gotten a linoone since he lends one to wally and Grusha should get a baxcalibur
My Teams: Pokemon GSC: Falkner: Hoothoot and Natu Bugsy: Ledian, Ariados and Scyther or Yanma Morty: Misdreavus, 2 Haunters and Gengar (maybe a murkrow if You wanna get creative) Chuck: Poliwrath, Primeape, Heracross, Hitmontop Jasmine: Skamory, Magneton, Scizor, Steelix Pryce: Delibird, Lapras, Dewgong, Piloswine Clair: Pupitar, Dragonair, Gyarados, Kingdra Pokemon RSE: Flannery: Keep the Slugma the original team was the best they could do Winnona: Replace the Swablu from Emerald with Swellow Tate and Liza: Solrock, Lunatone, Grumpig Claydol SV: Iono: Keep the team as it was i think pokemon diversity matters as much as regional representation.
For Katy, she can KEEP Teddiursa because of the Ability Honey Gather. Iono can keep Luxio, I'm not Biased; but, her Tera Mismagius, while it matches Iono's appearance; you could've chosen ORTHWORM. It has Earth Eater and would be a good warm up for the Lurking Steel Titan Battle. Earth Eater makes Orthworm immune to Ground and an Electric Tera one is such a troll. Bronzong would've worked too with Levitate negating its weakness to Ground. For Clair, I suggest pulling a HGSS and switch out one of those Dragonairs for Gyarados.
Really disagree with some of your gen 4 fixes, Leafeon on itself has stats of an Ace pokemon, with 520 stat total and a 130 attack stat and 110 base defense and 95 speed, I feel like Leafeon + a Roserade is way too overkill for only the 2nd gym. Also disagree wuth you taking out Candice's Medicham, the medicham is supposed to represent Candice's relationship with Maylene ( since you literally encounter Maylene on the way to Snowpoint, and she explains taht she and Candice's regularly train together ) all in all i majorly disagree with the sentiment that gym leaders have to exclusively only use pokemon of their own speciality and aren't allowed to diversify
I'd like to say what I did for the gen 2 teams because there are a few themes here that I feel are missed out on Falkner: Is perfect as he is in your video. Bugsy: I just gave him one Pokémon: Scizor. I think that if you move Houndour and Slugma to the cave right before Azalea, this is perfectly reasonable and is an introduction to Steel types like how Falkner was an intro to Dark types with his ace Murkrow. Whitney: She isn't just a Normal trainer. She wants cute pink Normal types to match her aesthetic. I think Clefairy is fine as a lead, it evolves from a gen 2 Pokémon so yeah, but I'd add a third member: Shiny Aipom. It's pink, it's cute, it's Normal type, and it's an introduction to Shiny Pokémon so you can understand what they are by the time you get to Gyarados. You can also replace Clefairy with Snubbull if you want pure gen 2 rep. Morty: replaced a Gastly with a Marowak both in reference to its lore revolving around death and birth (connecting to Morty's association to Ho-oh) and to its Alolan form! Though the latter makes no sense from a gen 2 lens. Chuck: tbh I just gave him Hitmontop and Heracross, his canon team should have been with Bruno from the start. Jasmine: Forretress over Scizor and that's about it. Skarmory time. Pryce: I gave him a Sneasel over a Swinub to avoid repeats and because Sneasel is just better. Clair: Yeah, this team is hard, but I went with an Ampharos over a second Kingdra, mainly because it was always meant to be a dragon type from what I heard. If I had to replace the other Dragonair... Pupitar. Tyranitar is plenty draconic if Aerodactyl is, that's for sure.
11:07 just to get it out there: they changed his team in platinum to Luxray, Raichu, Jolteon and an Electivire - you'd probably change the Raichu for something else but i had to say it after i realized l never seen Volkner use neither a Ambipom nor an octillery due to only playing platinum :)
Gen I Gym Leaders "can't possibly get it wrong." Tell that to Koga in Yellow, who only uses the Venonat line in a region full of Poison-types. Also Jasmine has two Magnemite, no Magneton (despite both Magnemite being at their evolution level).
Thank you for your three comments!! Those help a lot to help get the video further out there!! Even though your commenting stuff sorta bashing everything I did it doesn’t matter cause that’s not how the algorithm works!! So in the end, I WIN
@@EganMediaVideosFreedom of opinion, but I don’t understand why you’re so against Gym Leaders using Pokémon outside their specialty. It makes their battles more challenging and gives them more coverage. Candice’s Medicham covers opposing Steel or Rock. Volkner’s Octillery covers Ground foes. Flint is significantly harder in DP due to his Champion-style balanced team.
I don't agree with some changes where you removed a previous gen pokemon, who was under utelized in that gen, by giving the gym leader a duplicate of the pokemon they already own.
I thought about that but then I’d have to change some teams up and almost ruin them, like Grants for example his was perfect and I feel like giving Mega’s that early would be over kill
I think roark couldve gotten bonsly instead of nosepass since nosepass is roxanne’s ace and its the 1st gym and bonsly is the only other gen 4 rock type that isnt important Gardenia couldve gotten the grass type wormadam instead of leafeon because leafeon is way too strong this early, and give her cherrim instead of churubi Maylene should have a medicham instead of riolu since even though meditite evolves at lvl 37, it only has a 410 bst so it isnt bad, no its not a gen 4 pokemon, however its better than a baby pokemon
Honestly for Iono I think Mismagius is decent, but could also picture her with a female Oinkologne or a Quaquaval bc I feel like they’re both entertaining and her whole thing is being an entertaining streamer. Anyway, awesome vid you should do one for the elite 4 of each region!
Honestly forcing gyms to only use types they are representing make for a really boring fight. Volkner was doing it right using an octillery with electric moves and water to counter ground types
That takes away the special and cool factor that only you and your rival have starters, besides what if you yourself had a combuskin and saw one being used, kinda ruins that special feel
Alolan Ninetails, Galarian Weezing, Azumarill, Gardivoir, Mawile, Whimsicott, Carbink, Dedennee, XERNEAS, Shiinotic, Comfy, MIMIKYU, ALL THE TAPUS, Grimmsnarl, The Fidough line, IRON VALONT, they’re not all pink and cute buddy do ur homework
What would The Diamond and Pearl leaders do? Rhyhorn Nosepass and leafeon for example are Platinum locked. You should have at least mention mentioned it.
None of the gym leaders actually use the Mega Evolution gimmick in their gym battles, If i gave Valarie one then every gym leader would need one and that would just not work. I also wanted to focus on newer Fairy Types and not older Fairy Types but I do understand what you mean fully!!
Make Raihan's fossil Pokemon hidden ability and give him a TTar so he can keep his sandstorm gimmick thanks to sand rush, coward (kidding lol, good video)
I do not understand what is the damm obssesion with giving the rock type gym leaders in gwn 3 and 4 THE SAME TEAM AS BROCK. You cannot tell me that Geodude and Nosepass isnt like saying Geodude and Onix, HOW THE HELL DOES ROXANNE, THE OWNER OF A DAMM MUSEUM NOT USE THE TWO HOENN FOSSILS. ROARK IS THE SAME CRAP, WHY NOT USE THE TWO GEN 4 FOSSILS?
Because the other fossil is Shieldon line, which is Steel type and there's a Steel gym leader in Byron, who is Roark's dad. So Roark isn't going to get Shieldon and Cranidos at the same time.
Why did you give? Candice a Snover even though she already has Abomasnow why not give her Froslas instead, since she did a dress that she actually has one
Not gonna watch past johto cause you’re not putting much thought into these. Whitney and Jasmine with those teams would be way too difficult, and Pryce would be a walk in the park
@@havoc9469 Ya don’t start with “not gonna watch past this point cause your not putting much thought into it” You also criticized a whole video while watching like 2-3 minutes of it, so I’m not taking it seriously
The intention of the video was fully missed with this comment, this was a fun what if hypothetical. Do I think some of these teams should be the ACTUAL TEAMS? Yes, I think Falkner, Bugsy, Wattson, Roark and others have horrible teams that had CLEAR answers as to what to do for their teams. But do I think a ALL OF my picks are the GOLDEN ANSWER? Fuck no!! It’s a fun hypothetical what if, and if that can’t be seen then. yikes!
@@EganMediaVideos in fact i cant. But adding unnecessary repeats to gordies and maileen wasnt logical: by giving repeats no new pokemon get spotlight, you just make the team less original.

Maybe me ignoring Gen 1 wasn’t a good idea 😅
0:07 Only Unova's Gym Leaders do.
Literally, they come to assist you during Team Plasma's scheme, while every other regions' Gym Leaders just sit on their butts waiting for you to challenge them.
Lemme tell ya, Unova did it better
While I can agree that its a bit of a lazy idea, its something that the creators themselves have never shyed away from, so I don't think me doing it is necessarily a boring idea but I can agree it does make it in some way lazy for some of the gym leaders
@@miimiiandco This is a brilliant idea and kinda what I was thinking in my mind when I was adding duplicates in the first place
I've always been a fan of Volkner's IDGAF team.
I agree with most of these besides when you change the teams to have duplicates, I like that you are prioritizing newer pokemon but I would prefer having some older ones over duplicates any day.
I love how you worded this comment, thank you for being very kind with it!!!
Wby didn't Valerie get to keep her mawile and have it has her mega evolver,? Also u missed givin olympia a mom who can mega
I think letting Bugsy keep Scyther works
While Scyther himself isn't Gen 2, his evolution Scizor is, so I say it still counts
Same reason why i like to give Mismagius to Morty (HGSS) since it evolves from a Gen 2 Mon
Good shit bro! Nice to see this blowing up and you getting more recognition for your work!
Aye thank you man I greatly appreciate it!!!
This was put together really well, you’re going places on yt man!
From the bottom of my heart this means the fucking world to me, thank you so much ❤️❤️❤️🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Gen 9 BAXCALIBUR line is ice type 🫠🫠🫠
I KNOWWWW I KNOWWWW I FORGOT 😭😭😭
i like the video man keep it up! if i had to say one thing i definitely feel like there’s a lottt of repeated pokémon on these teams, like flannery having 2 numels AND a camerupt, or normal having 2 slakings and vigoroths when exploud and linoone are right there
I do agree with the Linoone line especially considering he gave one to wally for a little bit of time
I feel like while wanting new rep for aces is good, going like double ups on lines or even exact Pokemon out of not wanting to use old ones is the exact kind of thinking that normally these style of videos tear into as bad, lazy, and the thing that makes you question why they even used that type if they weren’t gonna give variety
After receiving a lot of comments like this, this one was prob the most well formed and overall structured!!! And I appreciate your input!!!
I’m pretty sure I’m gonna start seeing that quadruple Slakoth in sleep paralysis
Besides that, nice video
Thank you so much man I appreciate it
My thoughts:
- Give Bugsy maybe a Ledian instead of a Ledyba, also a Pineco instead of a Spinarak.
- Give Falkner a Natu and Noctowl as his 2 Pokemon.
- Give Pryce a Sneasel instead of Swinub, and keep the Dewgong and give it water-type attacks.
- Give Norman a Spinda, Linoone, Vigoroth, Slaking, and Loudred
- Give Valerie an Aromatisse: she has a Spritzee in the anime
Ngl these are some good picks!!
If you want, you can give a Gumshoos to Lary. It is a Alola mon but the dex said that they came from other region to stop the Rattata peste, so we can assume that it came from Paldea. No other region had this pokemon
OH THATS GENIUS
"Gen 5 has literally nothing to fix" DAMN STRAIGHT BRO, UNOVA FOR LIFE 💯💯🔥🔥
U-N-O-V-A FOR LIVE BABY
19:32 finally someone else realized how perfect the bramblin family is for Brassius
It actually drives me crazy they never gave it too him
THATS WHAT IM FUCKING SAYING!!! WHY DOES HIS HAIR LOOK LIKE THAT OTHERWISE!!!
It'd be nice if more gym leaders had diverse teams or a theme not necessarily type based. Cynthia & Blue r good examples of this as they were strong & couldn't really be swept by one Pokemon
Honestly, some points I agree with, some, I think fits the gym leader very well regardless of type or region
And ya know what!! That's entirely fair!!!
back in MY DAY
BACK IN MY DAY WE ONLY HAD FRIENDSHIP AND EVOLUTION STONE EVOS
So... What exactly is the design philosophy of adding duplicates and pre evolutions to uhhh make them lose variety-
So the design philosophy was to have them better represent the regions in which they are from.
And i fully respect that opinion, its another good way to look at gym leaders and how they could be fixed honestly
No no he’s from Hoenn not Kanto!!
@@EganMediaVideos He's from Hoenn!!!, I swear I thought he was from Kanto I guess give him a Camerupt or a Torkoal instead
Give him a Torkoal for drought. Also, I feel like Raihan has a dual gimmick with weather as well as dragons.
I wouldve really liked to see move sets and levels for these updated teams but i still really liked this video! Though i feel norman shouldve gotten a linoone since he lends one to wally and Grusha should get a baxcalibur

My Teams:
Pokemon GSC:
Falkner: Hoothoot and Natu
Bugsy: Ledian, Ariados and Scyther or Yanma
Morty: Misdreavus, 2 Haunters and Gengar (maybe a murkrow if You wanna get creative)
Chuck: Poliwrath, Primeape, Heracross, Hitmontop
Jasmine: Skamory, Magneton, Scizor, Steelix
Pryce: Delibird, Lapras, Dewgong, Piloswine
Clair: Pupitar, Dragonair, Gyarados, Kingdra
Pokemon RSE:
Flannery: Keep the Slugma the original team was the best they could do
Winnona: Replace the Swablu from Emerald with Swellow
Tate and Liza: Solrock, Lunatone, Grumpig Claydol
SV:
Iono: Keep the team as it was i think pokemon diversity matters as much as regional representation.
These are some good suggestions I won’t lie
3:01 Interesting thing is, she doesn't even have a Magneton.
Slip of the tongue
I'd like to say what I did for the gen 2 teams because there are a few themes here that I feel are missed out on
Falkner: Is perfect as he is in your video.
I like some of these!!! Good picks!!!
Yeah Volkners whole “fixing” was meant to be more of a comedic one. I’m happy they fixed it in Platinum tho!!!
Gen I Gym Leaders "can't possibly get it wrong." Tell that to Koga in Yellow, who only uses the Venonat line in a region full of Poison-types. Also Jasmine has two Magnemite, no Magneton (despite both Magnemite being at their evolution level).
That was not the point/topic of discussion for the video
Schmedia media
MR. BEES PATRICE KNEES!!!
looking back. you made alot of wrong choices. cause it was fun they included previous gens

@@EganMediaVideos what are you? light yagami?
@@johnny6187 Nah just making some guy on the internet look dumb. My guy this is not worth it, stop commenting and just leave
@@EganMediaVideos okay light yagami
@@EganMediaVideosFreedom of opinion, but I don’t understand why you’re so against Gym Leaders using Pokémon outside their specialty. It makes their battles more challenging and gives them more coverage. Candice’s Medicham covers opposing Steel or Rock. Volkner’s Octillery covers Ground foes. Flint is significantly harder in DP due to his Champion-style balanced team.
I don't agree with some changes where you removed a previous gen pokemon, who was under utelized in that gen, by giving the gym leader a duplicate of the pokemon they already own.
You can give grusha the pseudo of the region....plus you should have added a mega in xy
I thought about that but then I’d have to change some teams up and almost ruin them, like Grants for example his was perfect and I feel like giving Mega’s that early would be over kill
I think roark couldve gotten bonsly instead of nosepass since nosepass is roxanne’s ace and its the 1st gym and bonsly is the only other gen 4 rock type that isnt important
Gardenia couldve gotten the grass type wormadam instead of leafeon because leafeon is way too strong this early, and give her cherrim instead of churubi
Maylene should have a medicham instead of riolu since even though meditite evolves at lvl 37, it only has a 410 bst so it isnt bad, no its not a gen 4 pokemon, however its better than a baby pokemon
Nah bro. Grusha could use the pseudo. Idc if he is way stronger than altaria
I agree and someone else in this comment section reminded me that it existed
I would of also given opal.alolan Rapidash instead of haterrene because opal clothes looks like rapidashes mane. But good video.
Honestly for Iono I think Mismagius is decent, but could also picture her with a female Oinkologne or a Quaquaval bc I feel like they’re both entertaining and her whole thing is being an entertaining streamer. Anyway, awesome vid you should do one for the elite 4 of each region!
Oooh those are good picks!!! And thank you so much!!! I greatly appreciate this so much!! And I’ll put it into consideration
Honestly forcing gyms to only use types they are representing make for a really boring fight. Volkner was doing it right using an octillery with electric moves and water to counter ground types
Me when I tell him about the frigibax line whom are also ice types:
Trust me I realized soon after posting XD
Instead of giving Brawly 2 Meditite, why not give him Combusken?
That takes away the special and cool factor that only you and your rival have starters, besides what if you yourself had a combuskin and saw one being used, kinda ruins that special feel
"shows that fairies arent just cute and pink stuff"..... they kinda are though
Um, you had an opportunity to give a mega mawile to Valerie and you didn’t take it, not mad, just feels wrong.
None of the gym leaders actually use the Mega Evolution gimmick in their gym battles, If i gave Valarie one then every gym leader would need one and that would just not work. I also wanted to focus on newer Fairy Types and not older Fairy Types but I do understand what you mean fully!!
@@EganMediaVideosBut you gave Korrina, Clemont, and Wulfric Megas, so Valerie having a Mega Mawile would still make sense.
Make Raihan's fossil Pokemon hidden ability and give him a TTar so he can keep his sandstorm gimmick thanks to sand rush, coward (kidding lol, good video)
