    This song was originally a darker story about a drug dealer but the lyrics were changed. The Ozarks first three albums are criminally underated, they had three different vocalists in the band at the same time and they were all multi instrumentalists.

      Yes, the song was originally about a male and their record company wanted the song to be about a female so the lyrics were changed.

    "Everyday in your indigo eyes
    I watch the sunset but I don't see it rise
    Moonlight and stars in your strawberry wine
    You'd take the world but you won't take the time >" It's about a girl always looking for happiness, but never being patient enough to find it. She can't see the forest for all the trees...

      Such a good verse. It's a shame that's the one that gets omitted in the short version of the song.

      I am willing to bet that the vast majority of the listening public have never heard this full version and it is a crime! The radio versions do not include this section and it really changes the song.

    Have a sorority sister who loved this song so we heard it a lot, it is a fun song to dance to and go out to a bar and hear so just brings up good memories now. Ozark was a good band back in the day. She's always trying to get something she can't find or want, it's like she's flighty and doesn't know what she wants and doesn't recognize it when she sees it. Most everything is in her mind and can't be manifested into her getting it. She sabotages herself before she can get anything.

    Our high school biology teacher played in various bands. Came in to class one day to a hi-fi and huge speakers up on the tables. This is the song he played for us that day. It was cool to have a teacher that listened to the same music we did. This was about 1976. He played in several different bands his whole life from his own school days until just before he passed.

    This song is about a woman who is in pursuit of happiness but never gives anything a long enough time to make her happy. She gets bored too easily she's flighty, or indifferent. This was written by band members Steve Cash and Larry Lee. Great song by a great group this song is from the album "it'll shine when it shines".

  • @russallert
    @russallert 2 года назад +10

    The story I've heard is that the band wrote the song about their dope dealer, and then changed the lyrics to make it sound like a love song in order to get airplay. The lead singer on this track is drummer Larry Lee, who (as you can hear) has a high voice - the top comment I've seen on RUclips videos of this song (especially the live 1976 version) is "I thought it was a chick singing!" Actually, if you watch the live version, Larry's drum kit has a sign on it that says "Cannabis", and during the jam section at the end, he's intently watching his drumstick hitting the ride cymbal over and over to the point that it appears to be tripping him out.....

    Sometimes we are so freakin' brilliant and different and shining so bright that we are too much, and the world doesn't get us. so we do things that dim our light or dumb us down to fit in and be normal, and we buy into that is how life is supposed to be. ). I LOVE THIS SONG ... THANK YOU!

    As great as this song is- and it IS great- it became an albatross for the Daredevils. They were primarily a country-rock band, in the vein of "If You Want to Get to Heaven", but the record label wanted more "Jackie Blues". Their follow up album "The Car Over the Lake Album" was great in it's own right, but signaled the decline of the Daredevils' popularity, because they stuck to their guns. Even so, music critics skewered them, claiming they were trying to replicate the sound of Jackie. So many great bands from that era suffered a similar fate as record label executives tried to wring commercial success out of bands vs. focusing on what drew them to the bands in the first place.

    I was in High school when this came out. My friend had a car at 16 and was working after school so they had money to buy the music and gas to run us around town. We would drive country roads so we could play it loud. Fall was best because the cool air really made the music crisp.
