I read a lot of scifi and recently have really enjoyed the Murderbot series by Martha Wells and The Southern Reach trilogy by Jeff Vandermeer. Murderbot also explores personhood and gender, while the Southern Reach is some weird, surreal scifi with dashes of beautiful nature writing, spy thriller, and horror. A very unique series. I also always recommend Ursula K Le Guin's Left Hand of Darkness for thought-provoking reading about gender and the complexities of interaction between two very different cultures.

Some Desperate Glory by Emily Tesh is a good portrait of child soldiers in a space war.
    Love your videos ❤

I'm reading the Machineries of Empire series now and I feel it's a similar experience ( as in I just had to roll with it and not try to understand everything and let myself be confused).
edit: I just went back to watch your review of Machineries of Empire and you did bring up this series, so I feel so validated :D
