Ask The Plasterer Eric, he knows all about the art of plastering. My buddy, Eric is located in the UK, where the plasterers really know their lime plasers.
Eric will answer all your plastering questions as long as you buy him beer. www.youtube.co....

FYI, if you have a dash finish that was applied say 50 to 150 years ago, chances are that the home has been painted once every ten years.
That's a coat of primer and top paint. Thus if it's a 70-year-old dash finish on your home, that's 14 layers of paint & primer.
What that much paint does to a dash finish is soften it. Thus now you have a sand finish.
Some sand finishes can be matched with Olimpia or Felton sand which is technically used as a plaster sand.
I used heavier sand so that when painted, with a primer and top coat it should blend in just as well if not better as their other patch.
Note: I and my sons and Eric the plasterer can spot a patch on any wall no matter if we did the patch as that's what we do for a living.
Kirk the Best ! Way i m watching your channel from over and over many years ? Because is true !❤
Thanks, I've heard that before too.😉
Happy Thanksgiving Kirk!
Same to you, my brother, happy holidays!
Been watching for years and I really want to start plastering!!! Every time i pass by a stucco building i think of Kirk and what kind of finish it is
LOL, man, you're on your way.🕵️♂️
Nice, Dad would say "get the fat to the top" or sand as you say. From a fan in the UK
Howdy Sex Hunter, we say that sometimes when we're finishing Lime plaster, cheers🕵🏼
Love ya brother ❤😅
Already had one of your guys popping over to my channel ❤️
Eric my fellow spread, no doubt all who have questions will be calling you, Cheers mate.👨🏼🎨

used to watch your videos many years ago. a stucco short came up on my recommended then immediately wondered if you were still making videos.. good to see youre still doing well.
Good evening, close to 15 years now and about a thousand video's, there's always stuff to talk about, and since my son Jason works with me and knows how to film and post, it works for us.👨🏻🔬
Too short !
We could have shown applying both coats but that would have made it an hour long and required a tripod. Who wants to watch for that amount of time and listen to me rambling at the same time.😉
You don't necessarily have to talk, many on this channel are ' learn by watching ' types.
You show them once and off they go and work on their skillset.
I agree this could have been longer.
But I certainly get your point that you are making on the " float heavier sand to achieve the correct match, once painted look."@@StuccoPlastering

Nice Match Bud :):)
Thanks for the visit
Kirk you and Jason make any day better
Long Live Mud !!
Good afternoon Jon, we sho-nuff like your style, thank you for those kind words. Kirk and Jay.
Kirk, I have a video request or if you already have one please let me know! How should you seal screws in stucco? We are changing our gutter configuration and need to screw the gutter supports in new locations. I know it’s a basic question, but the gutter people in my area rarely work on stucco. Thanks!!

Hey Kirk & Co, I love your work. Question about stucco over paper. I'm just trying to get my head around how the water runs down into the weep screed. Obviously, once the moisture penetrates the stucco, it hits the paper. I'm just trying to understand how does that water run down rather than being trapped? I have a friend who has built an aircrete dome. She stucco'd straight over the aircrete with stucco mesh. In such an application paper should be used? Sorry for all the questions. I'll keep looking through your vids as I know the answers are probably buried in them but any advice would be appreciated. Your guys are awesome.
The water will spread and dry I believe. It doesn’t hit anything that will cause damage or mold.
Howdy, good question, I have not stuccoed over an Aircrete Dome, however, about 30 years ago, we did stucco over a round type of wood home. We used a rubber material called "Ice and water shield" for the waterproof membrane. Then attached stucco netting and plastered it. The moister can't get trapped because of gravity. Gravity will always allow the rain if it penetrates to fall toward the earth where the weep or drip screeds are installed. And being that the metal screeds go on the bottom or on the "Mud Sill" first, with all stucco applications, the membrane whether or not paper, or rubber has to cover the face of these weep screeds while the bottom is open or has holes to allow moisture to exit. 🕵🏼
@@StuccoPlastering Thanks again, you are a champion.
Kirks the best.
Hey, I've heard that before.😉
Loved it though... while it lasted 👍

Sweet 👍
Thanks for the visit.🕵️♂️
Always enjoy your videos! Thanks for another informative subject!! 🙂👍🏠
Our pleasure!😉
Hello sir, this was a very nice video made a lot of sense
Cool beans, daddieo.
Howdy Kirk! Would love to see a video on matching a maintenance free non painted stucco finish, I have a cat face/montalvo maintenance free finish and I never see that anywhere 🙃
Type the name in our channel, I explain cat faces, but it's really just a Santa Barbara smooth finish where one misses a few areas when applying the second finish, 🕵️♂️
Just the video I have been waiting for. Thanks!
Happy you enjoyed it!👨🏻🔬
All the best Kirk, Jay and family.
Thank you Doug, happy holidays.👨🏼🎨
Wouldn't a heavier sand make it closer to the original finish before it was painted ?
The original fini is a dash, that's stucco that's been thrown on with a dashbrush.
A heavier sand won't create a dash Look. But a dash that has say 14 layers of paint as this wall does will soften the dash look a bit, allowing one who knows finishes to apply a two coat finish which can be sponge floated to match many different textures.👨🏻🔬
Thanks. Was just wondering
