    One of the things I like about this video is the interrogating officer. That's Dmitry Oksen, the last founding member of Jinjer who left in 2015 to pursue an acting career. He was the rhythm guitarist and you can see him in old videos like "Scissors" and "Outlander", etc.

    The boys write the music and Roman records demos that they pass on to Tati for her to write lyrics to. Vlad actually wrote most of the guitar parts on the last two albums. For the Wallflowers album, Roman and Vlad were in Kiev by themselves because of the lockdown, so they spent months working out the songs on their own while Eugene and Tati were in America. Tati writes in her native Russian and then translates it to English. She procrastinates and even writes many of the lyrics on the fly in the studio. The video for Wallflower was a play on this. The band was hounding Tati for her art and she just wanted to be left alone, they finally went away after it was complete and she threw it at them.

    this song is about an interview they did in the Ukraine, with a former Ukrainian agent, who is now a talk show host. its on RUclips if you want to watch it, the creepiness of the interview is palpable, and he was trying to catch them in lies and anti Ukrainian sentiment the entire interview. this song is their response to that experience.

    • @vidopliasov
      @vidopliasov 2 года назад +2

      "former Ukrainian agent" How to understand this phrase? Ivanov is a journalist, former musician of a rock band. He like the musicians of JINJER, lived in the territory that fell under the occupation. While he didn't hide his pro-Ukrainian views, he left his homeland for Kiev under the threat of his life. Yes, during the interview he didn't hide his dissatisfaction about the Soviet orientation of the group members, but at the same time he constantly complimented them as professionals and musicians. His interviews are always quite tough and ambiguous. He doesn't lick or kiss the ass of his guests.

    It's awesome you got to see them. They're back in the US and Canada this spring both doing more of their own headlining shows and also opening for In This Moment and Slipknot at a month of Knotfest shows. I love how much fun the songs in this album are. Ironically, as a non-musician this album seemed more simple and fun to me so I've been shocked to hear that there's so much complexity some musicians find it off-putting. I feel like as the guys' composition skills improve they are better able to combine those two. I felt like J&P off Macro started it and now it's really locked in as part of their skillset.
    Anyway, I'd love to learn more about their process. In particular, I'm really curious if there is any degree of tweaking after Tatiana reveals what she's going to do lyrically and vocally because it sometimes seems almost supernatural how well the music fits what Tati is doing, even though rationally I know that could easily be just down to how well Tati feels the music and comes up with something that works perfectly to fit it.

    I love Disclosure! Always love Jinjer! I like the metaphors Jinjer uses, like here where the police interrogator represents media, because I think it's about both things: the media interviewer Tatiana has mentioned and also police/military/politicians. In Teacher Teacher where Tatiana says it's not about teachers, but rather a metaphor about people who either have a role of authority or just act like they do, I think that by using the metaphor, for some listeners that makes it about both things (so, many people connect with Teacher Teacher because they experienced cruel teachers). I think in this video the interrogator killed himself in the end, there's a sound which could be a shot ringing out and echoing, so to me the message is, "we need to silence lying media/police/military/politicians or push them to silence themselves, we can have peace, love and harmony after that". Things I read about this video: 1. It definitely refers to media and state narratives pushed, and it's about a particular interviewer that tried to paint Jinjer as unpatriotic ("disclosing" Jinjer as unpatriotic). 2. The Russian and Ukrainian slang for police is "trash" (similar to English, "pig" or "bastard"), so they take him (policeman representing the interviewer, played by Dmitry Oksen former Jinjer guitarist turned actor) to the dump. 3. It's really important when Tatiana shows her Ukrainian passport, like the band is saying to critics who call them unpatriotic, "yes, we're still Ukrainian even though we disagree about some things". I'm with Jinjer: I think it's pretty horrifying that the US helped a Ukrainian neonazi militia to be incorporated into the Ukrainian military (see Multipolarista on RUclips), our fascism begets fascism worldwide (see Killing Hope by William Blum - US Military and CIA Interventions since WWII). There's a lot more detail about this Jinjer video in a great video by MetalGearShady: "Jinjer Disclosure! official video context / song background analysis / overview"

    There is a Jinjer video which explains the background of the song. The band members belong to the Russian speaking minority in eastern Ukraine (in the Luhansk region) now governed by pro-Russian separatists. They fled to western Ukraine and now live in the capital Kyiv (in Russian Kiev). Here their loyalty to the Ukrainian state is often questioned, although they are Ukrainian citizen. That's why we see in detail Tati's Ukrainian pass when she hands it over to the first officer. He and the interrogating officer speak Ukrainian. Tatiana sings 'leave me alone with your mistrust and politics'. In Russian "rat" is a slang word for a cop.

    Hey David, it's been awhile since I've watched one of your videos, but I knew there was something missing in my life! 😂 Like you, I have been on a Jinjer journey which keeps getting better and better and I absolutely love them (with Tatiana, the vocal beast and Slavic goddess, being the part I love the most!). I just got my Jinjer "We Want Our Home Back" t-shirt and Jinjer stickers today, but the best part is, I got a ticket to see them live November 20'th at the House of Blues in Boston and I'm psyched! I believe you live in Connecticut and I remember you saying that you'd love to see them live. Are you going to the Boston show or did you get a ticket to a show closer to you? I'll buy you a beer if you're going to the House of Blues show! 😁🍺🤘💛💙

    • @RockDocNeal

      BTW, to the clarify the meaning...Tatiana wrote the lyrics to this shortly after an uncomfortable interview the band did with a far-right nationalistic Ukrainian journalist who in a passive-aggressive way, accused them of being sympathetic to Russia and the long term efforts of the Russian separatists in Eastern Ukraine (where they are from) because they hadn't publicly voiced any overt pro-Ukraine/anti-Russia sentiments and because they speak Russian primarily (which a lot of people do in the land bordering Russia). As you can tell from the lyrics and the video...Tatiana was very pissed! The interview was way before Russia's full blown invasion of Ukraine and prior to their release of the song Home Back (which was regarding the chronic fighting in Eastern Ukraine) and they have since made anti-war statements and in support of Ukraine.

    In a way yes, it's a political statement. The band is from Donetsk, near the russian border, and they probably grew up under russian influence to some (possibly great) extent. Apparently they don't regard that as being something entirely bad, and that's an object of criticism by ultra-nationalists, anti-Russia ukrainians. The video starts with Tati showing her passport where it reads "Ukraine", and that's a clear statement. I add this to "chazzbass" comment below.
