I'm 16 and I'm dad used to work for Citroën a few years ago and had 4 DS5's in his time working there. Initially I was a bit disappointed because he previously had an E-Class and a 5 Series. However the DS5 just grew on me so much, it's now my dream car and to own one when I'm older would just be incredible.
Luxury review of luxury car. It's really big pleasure to see so great reviews with so elegant, high cultural man. Citroen/DS definitely the best french cars in last years, way way before renault I think. Greetings.
Citroen Citroen Citroen the most advanced technology since its creation. Thanks André. Citroen has been part of my family since the birth of the Traction Avant . 2 CV, DS, CX, and SM . Now that I live in the USA I wish Citroen comes back. I will certainly get one.🙏🚗🇫🇷🇺🇸🚘
I adore these new ds cars, like driving artwork, you can tell its been thought about instead of your dull as dish water vws and audis. Having the word citroen on it would not have bothered me :)
Thank you Thomas for your review of the DS 5 Hybrid, A year ago I was convinced this Citroen DS 5 Hybrid was the choice for me. Less than a year later, the technology has advanced and I now see the DS 5 Hybrid as an old concept. Without Plug-in technology, Hybrids are not worth looking at. Separating the DS from the mainstream Citroen brand is a solution that most manufacturers have used or adopted over many years. Most Japanese manufacturers use separate manufacturer designations to differentiate Premium brands from the regular model line-up, so why shouldn't Citroen follow? Only, they will need a separate sales and service network to make owners feel really special!
Just ordered a brand new DS5 sport with the bluehdi 180hp engine. In white pearl 😀 trading it for my four months old Abarth 595 competizione ^^ thanks for the video.
Love this car, but I like the Citroen logo within the frame of the car much much more. It gives you a feel that the car is more sporty which it is, more aggressive, just better looking overall :)
Design wise I find this car very attractive, just as all the recent Citroen products. Just like in the past models, there are still some ergonomic issues, some of these probably "due" to the design choices. About the powertrain, my opinion is that this diesel-hybrid combination doesn't really make any sense and just like you said in the video, doesn't really give any real benefits. For fuel efficiency I'd just pick a standard diesel and avoid the unneeded complexity ( and price) brought by the hybrid system. Thanks again for the nice review.
Nice, interesting and fresh design. Headlights (and backlights) look to exposed though, time will show are they prone to damages. Thank you for your reviews, the most useful on RUclips, definitively.
Love the the design of Citroen and DS lately. This DS5 is indeed one of the most gorgeous hatchbacks ever made. However to answer your question (after two years) I think the chevron-shaped Citroen logo looks way better than the DS logo, on any of their models for that matter. Further I find the separation of the DS brand overdone and over pretentious.
Very interesting car, quite unique . We can see that DS brand is getting new identity, and I think that this is only the first step , that the much bigger changes will come, as the first DS models looked liked a speced up regular Citroens , now this car looks much more different, and all thanks to the new front end styling. Citroen has a really good strategy, making this brand was their best move over the last years, and separating DS even harder from Citroen will make some much more space for even greater creativity and will make the DS brand an amazing premium alternative in the segment. P.S: Cadillac ATS Coupe, this is how premium interior looks like....
Two videos recommended for me in the same day, the first was a Renault Megane convertible from 10 years ago and now this from 6 years 😳 two girls cars in the one day! Is youtube trying to tell me something 🤔
Trully a beatifully design hatchback, unique , but yet eleagantly slick style. Love the interior design, very different and glad to see they do not have the centre screen sticking out of the dash, like the germans. Personnaly for me, it doesn't matter if it has a DS Logo or Citreon Logo. I do agree with fellow commentor Zeebazu, theu could have retain the chevron logo and indicate DS on the side.
On the whole it's nice to see a favourable review of the DS5. I own a 2 year old Hybrid and am very pleased with it. A couple of things though - you mention head height to roof at about 24 mins. Was the seat in it's lowest position? There's a lot of vertical adjustment available. With regard to the engine in SPORT. At auto route speeds you'll not notice much as you're already running fast but what it will do is sharpen up the gear change and increase engine revs. But that's not the point of the Hybrid anyway it's more leisurly in it's manner and not a track car.
The separate branding is similar to Lexus and Toyota, but in this case they're rebranding an existing Citroen model, which is difficult. The original Citoen DS5 was an innovative car but had its flaws which did put people off. There was criticism of the poor ride quality over rough and pot-holed road surfaces e.g. most of the roads in the UK., and also the vague steering. Both of these features you would expect to be given priority in an executive car. The DS5 has been improved in these areas over the previous Citroen version, but it is priced quite high and residual values will be low. The reality is that many people will play safe and go for more proven executive cars offered by BMW, Mercedes, Audi and even VW.
I agree with most of your comments Thomas apart from the front facelift. Having owned a DS5 for over a year now I still feel a bit special while driving it, not because it's "man & machine in perfect harmony" but because it's not, it's different from all the rest. One gets used to the foibles of a French car, otherwise why buy another? I'm on my 12th French car from all makes and all had good & bad points, that's why we change, to experience something new. I've also owned British, German, Italian and American cars so have a bit of experience with most. The DS5 is just another experience, a nice one, but I'm not a fan of the "sucking a lemon look" of the facelift model. The chrome chevrons just appear to compliment the rest of the quirkiness of the cars looks. Again thanks Thomas for the closer look at the facelift but I think I'll stick with my 1.6 EGS diesel which has a better fuel economy and just as much poke as the Hybrid by being much lighter while being able to pull my quite heavy caravan.
@Thomas. In the review of the previous DS5, you mentioned that the car would run on electric only at low speeds and then the diesel engine would turn on when you accelerate more or go faster. Is that still the case with this newer version of the DS5? And is it not annoying that the diesel engine is constantly stop/starting? It's been a while since I drove a diesel car but I always remember that they are quite gruff when you start the engine!
Thank you Tomas, now i consider to buy this new front design DS5 which is already produced in China, i really appreciate its design and also hope French car would not let me disappointed because you know that there are other competitor like bmw 3 series and volvo s60. Moreover it's a nice vedio and best wishes from China. :)
i'm now looking at a 1 to 2 year old low mileage prestige 180 2.0 auto for just £14k in the UK ....massive drop , if you bought one new it would be the worst business decision EVERRRR
Hello Thomas and thank you for your excellent reviews. One thing that struck me instantly with the DS5 video is the nice deep colour of the car and in general the paint which I found really inspired quality. What was your impression? I remember in the past that French cars were not cited for the quality of their paint, but in the case of this DS5, it seems it has vastly improved. Maybe you could insist more on this aspect in your future reviews. All the best!
Thomas, what is your opinion about using Torsion Bean on rear axle? car is quite expensive and unique on its own way, but such common solution known from cars from segment B and C in flagship car is a shame without doubt, do you still recon the suspension characteristics and how does torsion bean reacts with road roughness on everyday basis? previous generation was a disaster on this term.
Danke!
The DS is absolutely a more beautifull care than the standard Citroen, but it all comes own to what you need. If you want an awesome ride and doesnt need a lot of space: take the DS5. IF you are an intire family in need to a new car: take the C5.
We have in family two french cars Renault Clio 2009 and Citroen C3 2006.I must say for luxury feel i prefer Citroen and now own Citroen luxury brand, this must be dream. This car looks amazing, interior is from another world but It looks like unpractical car for family use and engines doesnt appeal a lot.I wish they bring back C6 type of car and hydropneumatic suspension.
Come on! No Citroen iconic logo on the front. It was more than logo. It was the identity. Other than that love the car. I think the DS badge should be on the side like STi badge.
Hi Thomas, nice review as always. I don't really think that Citroen went the extra mile as to name DS a premium brand and charge it more. For the 30-40k euro I guess they need to use better components and think about the practicality and overall quality of the car, as a differentiator from Citroen.
you must try to get into a citroen car currently, then, all the reports already show that the quality standard had an update for more than 10 years lately!
I actually made a decission to buy Citroen DS5 hybrid. I prefer the look of the first generation model over the second generation DS model. To me it looks empty without the citroen logo infront. In my mind this car needs to have that flow that comes from first generation grille and shevron. Its one of the key elements of the design and changing that doesnt make sense to me. As a brand reformation I dont get it either. Changing just a badge is the worst you can do to make things believable.
Nice review yet again, I have a question, I was offered the previous model (2015 ) with the previous frontage and its a 2.0 diesel/automatic ( eat 6) in your opinion is it worth buying the previous model? Or should one save more money and buy the newer model?
***** It looks bigger from the side because of the camera angle on the dash. It's straight ahead of the driver (not offset like some cars) and hands fall neatly on it. It does have Four thumb buttons and a scroll wheel on eash side - so 10 in all so you need room for them. Look at DS configurator to see what I mean. There's also paddle shifters behind the wheel so a lot going on!
I was forced to buy this car. Forced, because the last real Citroën (C5) with a proper Citroën suspension was discontinued before my current lease ran out. It's a 180HDiEAT6 in Grey with the beautyfully sumptpous brown leather , audio package, and everything else I could fit in it - apart from 18" wheels, it's better on bad roads on the 17" wheels!) I am what in Thomas' native language is called a "bertungsresistenter Wiederholungstäter" having driven nothing but Citroën BX, CX and XM in the past. Therefore, I am very disappointed about the non-existing comfort, I miss the self-correcting ride height and everything else that made hydropneumatic suspension the best in the world. But at least, it looks like something else. I'm sad they don't make it anymore now. Had they fitted it with hydropneumatic suspension, the many diehard Citroën fans (such as me) would have gone out and buy one, just because they had to have something else than all the boring Audis.
I hope the new DS branding scheme pays of for Citroen. The DS5 in my mind should be about luxury and comfort and the drive should be effortless, but I'm not convinced this concept works. The design is special - true .... but at the same time it already feels outdated. The central console has a design language but no focus. And why, why, why, whyyyyyyy does this car lacks the Citroen signature Hydractive suspension?! Beside the design it's the one unique selling point of the Citroen and it would enhance the car. WTF is up with that? PSA group made this huge effort to develop diesel-hybrid powertrain and on paper it's a great idea, but ... where are the benefits?? Consumption is even higher than on pure diesel! Is there a difference in ride quality? Is it more linear? I don't get it ... This car deserves better! I know it will never happen, but I would make this car with an old-school atmospheric silky smooth V6 or even better - an electric powertrain. DS5 should be a modern, luxury GT cruiser. Now it's just an overdesigned hatchback ...
Andrej Gobec the hydro suspension is generally reliable. but it does require tidy maintenance. it's only as good as the owner following the user manual and his respective mechanics who takes care of them. but yeah how comfortable it was. i really wish they still make them today. CX pallas FTW!
I think it was a bad idea, I have always liked the integrated citroen badge and ds one ontop. Looks like an old kia at the front with a citroen boot. Don't like
It's all Citroen logo for me. Last good Citroen for me was C6, these cars today, too much plastic, stupid design detailes (like that central console clock) and shiny stuff... thats not the point. I wish they done something like Mazda did with its new series after they blew Ford away.
Qutami oooh... the C6 with hydro suspension? i wish if they sell it where i live. that car would be very awesome. last citroen sold where I live was the BX. my dad used to own the trio, pallas, gs and bx.
The previous model still looks Young and fresh, this car is ahead of its time and will never age. Strikingly beautiful and a joy to drive.
One of the most beautiful hatchbacks ever made! They at Citroën realy have some design potential, I wish they could re-introduce the C6
Vasiliy Kulev we really got some nice feedback for citroen here - they will be glad!

I think they should keep Citroen logo definitely! What's Ds without Citroen? Nothing

Why is there no Citroen C5 review? :(
I was forced to buy this car.
J
I would prefer the Citroen logo on the front grille
Is it possible to fold the rear seats?
Don't like
There have been many incarnations of the 'chevrons' design in recent years and the citroen ds 5 was by far the best.
Im a Citroen fan......but I do Iike the new front
Nice car bit the batteries take up alot of the boot space and is too much money about 2k more
araç jantların yönleri ?
Beautiful!
how lo g would one of these last you?
I rather buy this car with the citroën Logo :D
id take a citroen logo on the front.
I would prefer both citroen and ds logo on the car.so that the people know the brand..which is citroen!
You speak about the Ds5 as if it was a Bmw 7 serie, an Audi a8 or a Mercedes s class .
victor dalmont hah =)
I think you are from deutchland 😂😂😂
