1st Time J&K CM Oath Owes Allegiance to Indian Constitution | Jist

Omar Abdullah has become the first Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir to take oath of allegiance to the Constitution of India apart from Mufti Mohd. Sayeed. Earlier most other chief ministers of J&K had taken oath on the Constitution of the state. Jammu and Kashmir had a separate Constitution since 1957. But on 5 August 2019, with the abrogation of Article 370, the Constitution of the state became infructuous.

Omar should keep in mind that he is the CM of Union Territory of J&K only, not the CM of erstwhile J&K state. The statehood of UT of J&K will never be restored in near future. If situation so arises, the Police Administration of UT of J&K will be taken over by Union Government through a Parliament Enactment.
