First time commenter long time watcher. Really great work on the sawmill and was lamenting to myself how most of the old growth timber in our area (SE Texas) has been lost to the paper industry. This includes pine and hardwoods, nothing much left but 10 to 15 year old timber which is not large enough for that kind of work. Might get one 6" x 6" 10 to 12' long timber out of a whole tree. Really enjoy watching you care for your forest. Thanks
Happy Mothers day Mrs. Wranglerstar. Amazing! All that wood looks so pretty and i can only imagine how wonderful it smells. I already know im gonna love this timber frame project. I hope to have some tools by the end of it and begin building small and eventually my own shed sized shop this summer.
Great production of Modern Homesteading with that Sawmill! 👍👏☝️🙏🏡 looking forward to seeing the next video series of the What' you are truly going build with those logs. Thank you for sharing this beautiful presentation of Sawmill 👍
I can see where having that saw mill and tractor are real blessings. It greatly increases you productivity. I just love that you can mill your own wood.
So yesterday i was on the phone with Granberg ordering my first alaskan sawmill. A 60" to match my 59" sthil ms880 that has been ordered in my a local hardware shop. During the phone call i was asked how i heard of Granberg and their mills. I replied that a year or so ago i saw someone using one on youtube and thought that that was a very handy tool to have and use, and now a year later i find myself in a need for one. The girl in sales asked me if the video i watched was a Wranglerstar video. when i confirmed her thought she laughed and said that they are quite fond of you there. just thought id pass that tidbit along to you
hey mate a rule of thumb from a Lucas operator 1st cut horizontal pushing 2nd cut vertical pulling otherwise you are pinching your blade losing power wrecking the dimension of board and also dangerous for kick back
Cody - I am very impressed with the quality of the productions that you create. The cinematography and use of the drone to get interesting angles that help tell the story even without a voice over, and of course the terrific choice in music really brings everything together in a professional, relaxing way. Your channel is therapy for the maddening world.
I started watching this not knowing that my FireFox browser was at half speed. With slight slo-motion the music seemed solemn, mesmerizing, & epic. Then I figured it out, switched, & noticed that the guitar music was a pretty pleasant beat. Both ways, fantastic video production.
I really enjoy your videos. The music and film work are so relaxing. Mixed with the timber frame aspect, and skill with the drone, along side the beauty of the Mill work. Spectacular! Keep up the good work Mr. Wranglerstar, your viewers enjoy it.
GiggleBytes2011 was probably one of the better acoustic renditions I have heard dire straits brothers in arms is one of my favs just touches the soul with the lyrics and the guitar solos in it
Good demo of how the swing blade works .. real nice. There is something that is so satisfying about cutting your own lumber. I don't have the skills but I have cut up and built some things with my mill... oh and nice with the Mavic .. I have one also that I can actually carry on my mule .. been getting some neat aerial footage in the wilderness.. Thanks!
cuts likes butter like I had commented Sir when you make the first placing of the log it shows I wish you where my neighbors I would have already a pole barn built and be proud it was done by you . The cuts perfect, logs off your oun land very cool Lucas on your property very cool
Cody, One of your Lucas Mill saw "teeth" is out of true. When you make a horizontal cut, the kerf is eider and you can see the one tooth segment "jump" up when the blade is clear. Look at the blade at times 1:58 and 3:26 on this video. A good blade man can fix it with a few well-placed hammer blows to the blade body. Check with the Lucas Mill folks.
I don't know what the overall consensus of these last two videos will be, but I'm a huge fan. Not that I have a problem with any of the other vides recently, it's just that these are videos that make me remember why I subscribed so many years ago. The story of a man doing what he wants on his land at his own pace... Well done. It's what I wish I could do. As I sit in my office all week struggling to get grant funding, to get papers published, and chasing grad students all over the globe, I just wish I were outside with some equipment getting actual work done. Work I can see at the end of the day, not just another electronic copy of a paper revision. Thanks for videos like this and the other milling one posted just prior.
Wranglerstar Totally understand. You've got to give the majority of folks what they want. I'll watch 'em all, so thanks for sprinkling ones like this in from time to time. Keep up the great work.
I think the timbers on the beefy saw horses, together, would make a great timber frame table! All that is needed is a sleeper to attach to the timbers, then the saw horses, with lag screws in between the timbers! The weight would obviously be very heavy, but could be used as a picnic table or on a patio or a VERY sturdy deck! Just my thoughts. Great video, Cody! Brings back fond memories of cutting firewood with my dad years ago!
Don't know if anyone has mentioned it yet but great camera work there, i have a national diploma in media and filmography and know that sometimes even the simplest shots can take all day to get right. so well done sir
I like watching your videos and figuring out the song that is playing, just by listening, while watching cool stuff happen. I'm like "That's......'Brothers in Arms'....good choice."
The excellent guitar work adds a nice touch whether its Knopfler, Young, or others they have been fantastic.Enjoy the vids Cody so keep up the great work and encouraging words. Godspeed.
That is one heck of a saw, I have seen videos of them in Australia cutting gum wood I think. Great job on the videos and keep them up. And I like your tractor setup
Awesome use of the drone footage, you're getting really good at it, well done. The open barn looks great! Hope we get to see a tour of the work area, nice to have cover now for machinery.
Cody, maybe I'm all wet but it seems to me that you should make the horizontal cut first and then do the vertical cut when you return to the end you started on. It would really help out with the blade getting pinched. Anyway, another great video. Tell Mrs W & Jack "Hi" for us.
Hey Cody. I notice you're in the barn that you were renovating and that the sides are now open. I think the last video you made about it was when Mrs Wranglerstar was under the ladder and the beam almost fell on her (really glad nothing serious happened by the way). I was really enjoying that renovation series. Did you film the rest? Are you planning on making more videos on it? If not could you please make a video walking us through what you did? Thanks! Love your videos!
As I continue to watch your videos, I sometimes envy your life of what you have and where you live. Not to say that I have not been blessed with what I have. Just like seeing what you put out there in each video. Keep it up, great work! Oh ya! Happy Momma day Mrs. W.
I may just have been a trick of perspective, but it looked like you did a great job of threading the needle when you brought those timbers into the barn.
I am not in the greatest shape anymore with my bad knees but man does this look like fun. You can pick up and move timber with the tractor. Then mill it and let tractor do more work. Then if you wanted, you could sit in a chair to do the chisel work. Very nice!
Always wanted a woodmizer, but got a Lucas 827 years ago....just an awesome machine, with so many uses, beveled siding being my favorite. Big slabs too.
Cody. Enjoyed the saw mill video. What type of drone do you have and would you do a video on how it works and how you operate equipment while the drone films you. God bless
So maybe you can answer this. I have seen a few videos that say you should timber frame with green wood. I guess easier to work and so on. But I see you cutting and letting them dry out. What would be your opinion on this?. Thanks a lot for continue to make top notch production and amazing content.
Nice set up. I made a swing blade years ago but hardwoods blunted the blades faster than I could sharpen them and packed it in and made a chainsaw mill.
Yikes I must not have been paying attention all along on the various Lucas Mill videos. I did not realize it would cut bi-directional. What a bonus over a bandsaw mill.
Cody, QUESTION... what made you kick the log mid way through sawing? I do enjoy when you explain your thinking... with myself as a voyeur with no experience, I do enjoy listening to your thinking. it seemed to make the 6 by 6 come out a little off. also when I watched the saw spinning... it seemed to be not smooth. just wondering if it makes a difference? cheers Peter
I think he put a wedge in to keep the blade from pinching. Someone up above suggests making the horizontal cut first then the vertical. Makes sense to me but I have never operated one of these.
Why did you make the first vertical cut down the center instead of just slabbing off the top? Was it to verify the mill is centered on the pith of the log?
First time commenter long time watcher. Really great work on the sawmill and was lamenting to myself how most of the old growth timber in our area (SE Texas) has been lost to the paper industry. I always love watching your videos, they are so soothing to me. The music and being able to watch you do something I'll never get to do.

That is some job, flying driving and filming all at the same time, WOW. And your editing is spot on, thank you.
hey mate a rule of thumb from a Lucas operator 1st cut horizontal pushing 2nd cut vertical pulling otherwise you are pinching your blade losing power wrecking the dimension of board and also dangerous for kick back
Hahaha a hobby mill operator hahahaha (lucas operator)
You're absolutely 💯 % correct!
Cody - I am very impressed with the quality of the productions that you create. The cinematography and use of the drone to get interesting angles that help tell the story even without a voice over, and of course the terrific choice in music really brings everything together in a professional, relaxing way. Something very satisfying about just watching the saw cut through the logs.
Your drone purchases were the best thing to happen to the channel. Amazing shots!
Lucas Mill, another great Aussie invention.
Great pacing, I like how concise and smooth this video turned out, thank you!
Great drone shot as you drove the milled logs into the barn! Really appreciate how you have integrated drone shots into your work.
The production of this vid was one of your best ever, Cody.
irritablearchitect couldnt agree more!
Fantastic work. That mill is incredible!
The lumber is nice but your camera work was fantastic ! Loved the angles.
I started watching this not knowing that my FireFox browser was at half speed. With slight slo-motion the music seemed solemn, mesmerizing, & epic. Then I figured it out, switched, & noticed that the guitar music was a pretty pleasant beat. Both ways, fantastic video production.
That's such a great saw mill. I'm glad you don't have to cut those logs the hard way anymore Cody. Thanks for the videos as always. God Bless
Happy Mother's Day to Mrs W, hope she has a wonderful day, great video and keep up the great work!
I have done a little milling and it's hard work but I didn't have to go in and edit. A video afterwards thanks for all the effort mate really cool
I really enjoy your videos. The music and film work are so relaxing. Mixed with the timber frame aspect, and skill with the drone, along side the beauty of the Mill work. Spectacular! Keep up the good work Mr. Wranglerstar, your viewers enjoy it.
Acoustic rendition of dire straits brothers in arms I loved that
glad someone else heard that...i was listening and thinking the same thing. Sounded awesome.
GiggleBytes2011 was probably one of the better acoustic renditions I have heard dire straits brothers in arms is one of my favs just touches the soul with the lyrics and the guitar solos in it
Ballsy to do Knopfler. Sounds very decent.
Very nice video. Great music and photography. Looking forward to seeing what you build with these timbers.

To bad they received half the views a typical video gets. This tells me the majority of my subscribers don't like this sort of video.
Wranglerstar Totally understand. You've got to give the majority of folks what they want. I'll watch 'em all, so thanks for sprinkling ones like this in from time to time. Keep up the great work.
That is a terrific sawmill! I really enjoy watching. Thanks for posting.

Such absolutely beautiful music!
Lovely choice of music was a great video to wake up and watch first thing here in Australia it's quite relaxing watching you work hard 😂
Short, sweet, and to the point.
I'm sure Mrs. W is enjoying a fine Mother's Day.
Another good video. I've been wanting to see several passes in a row from the end view. You hit it right on the head with this one.
Looks like you know what you're doing Cody. I enjoy your videos a lot. Keep them coming!
Your place, so do it your way! Just keep the videos coming so I can learn too!
You sure have come a long way! I remember watching you wrestle the timbers with a pickaroon and the Alaska sawmill!
Another great video - I can't wait to see more as you progress on this project.
Thank you.
Really cool video. Really cool to see how many trees are needed for construction!
Always great to see what you are doing.
sitting here watching your video with my 5 month old granddaughter and she is mesmerized by it with the music
The excellent guitar work adds a nice touch whether its Knopfler, Young, or others they have been fantastic.Enjoy the vids Cody so keep up the great work and encouraging words. Godspeed.
Thank you John.
Nice Work and the Saw Horses are Awesome.
This video was very well put together. nice shots, nice use of the Mavick Pro, good editing, and the sound was mixed beautifully. well done, sir.
Not going to trim the pegs on the sawhorses? Or just letting them setup so you can tighten if necessary?
I think he said he might change them for oak ones later?
Maybe so that they can be disassembled for moving and storing perhaps.
Jim Williams or is it not finished look at the lumber he just milled
Let everything dry over time and then drive them in further as need be. Cut them off now, and you're snookered.
he can hang tools from them... not really gonna be in the way
That is one heck of a saw, I have seen videos of them in Australia cutting gum wood I think. Great job on the videos and keep them up. And I like your tractor setup
Thanks cody
That is a beautiful operation you've got going, Bubba!
amazing cover of mark knopfler's brothers in arms
Very enjoyable video I could almost smell that fresh cut lumber!
Awesome use of the drone footage, you're getting really good at it, well done.
The open barn looks great! Hope we get to see a tour of the work area, nice to have cover now for machinery.
watching this sawmill run is relaxing.
Good job! Happy Mother's Day Mrs. W! 👍
Your choice of music if always fantastic really enjoying these videos
Very nice job sir! Saw horses look beautiful!
Such an awesome machine, how cool is it to be able to produce your own building material like that. Now THAT is true environmentalism.
that mill is awesome! it's like a warm knife through butter.
Thanks, Cody. I really enjoy your videos.God bless.
Cody, maybe I'm all wet but it seems to me that you should make the horizontal cut first and then do the vertical cut when you return to the end you started on. It would really help out with the blade getting pinched.
Anyway, another great video. Tell Mrs W & Jack "Hi" for us.
I love what you do on this channel, living the dream and doing something every day. Keep up the good work.
Lucas Mills are great machines. Beveled siding is the most fun for me...light to handle and it looks great on lots of local homes I cut it for!
Hey Cody. I notice you're in the barn that you were renovating and that the sides are now open. I think the last video you made about it was when Mrs Wranglerstar was under the ladder and the beam almost fell on her (really glad nothing serious happened by the way). +Philippe Lobelle yes I have one coming up
Philippe Lobelle Was thinking the same thing.
good question. I was wondering about that also
Great! I'm looking forward to that one (or more).
I can't wait to see what you are building.
As I continue to watch your videos, I sometimes envy your life of what you have and where you live. Not to say that I have not been blessed with what I have. Just like seeing what you put out there in each video. Keep it up, great work! Oh ya! Happy Momma day Mrs. W.
I may just have been a trick of perspective, but it looked like you did a great job of threading the needle when you brought those timbers into the barn.
talk about a satisfying video. this is perfect.
saw horses doing there job. the more i watch you use the mill the more i like the mill thank you for the video
Thank you John,
+Wranglerstar so is Makita sending you a new tool to help build your shed?
Your production is getting really good.
I think now i see why i would have that over a band saw type. It's so quick and precise.
Great video, thank you for my daily dose of tranquility before my weeks starts all over....
Cody, When you stated the fact the horses were going to be used primarily for timber framing project, I understood why they were so strong. Geoff
Cody. Enjoyed the saw mill video. What type of drone do you have and would you do a video on how it works and how you operate equipment while the drone films you. God bless
man, you've got some downright amazing tools. I dream of stuff like that.
Congratulations on United States of Adventure showing your content on facebook! Awesome
This is almost therapeautic. Blessings from Norway
brothers in arms.... great video, thank you.

Would it be better to make the horizontal cuts before the vertical so the wood won't fall on the blade?
Gary Jernigan Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe he shims it up along the way.
Yes but would it remove the need to shim therefore making it faster and safer for the blade.
Yeah, that's what I was thinking, and it doesn't look like he was shimming it along the way. Looks like it worked out fine, but still.
On one of the close shots you can see the blade has a riving knife when swung into horizontal position, so should be fine, as we've seen.
Looking good, like to see the carport getting up.
I can't wait to see what you're going to build.
Keep up the good work!! May God bless you and the family!!!
G'day Mr Wranglestar I have seen a few video's of your Lucas Mill. Please have a look at our mill on Our Turbo Sawmill And From Tree To Timber
Nice air curing barn to get those ready for use.
Nice set up.
I made a swing blade years ago but hardwoods blunted the blades faster than I could sharpen them and packed it in and made a chainsaw mill.
could you do a video on homesteading tools, what you find most useful on a day to day basis.
Cody, you are the manliest of men, and I say that with great jealousy. Awesome job.
Is it me, or does that look like the beginning of one bad ass work bench???? 👍
Man that saw mill is awesome.
Yikes I must not have been paying attention all along on the various Lucas Mill videos. I did not realize it would cut bi-directional. What a bonus over a bandsaw mill.
Are you going to make that cabin you try to make years ago?
I like your barb shop. fitting with your timber saw horses
The mysteries in your video keeps me always coming back. So now I wait while these are drying what are they for?
The feed rate of that thing is astonishing! I really can't get over how fast it shreds right through that timber like nothing!!
It's wonderful
Cody, QUESTION... what made you kick the log mid way through sawing? I do enjoy when you explain your thinking... with myself as a voyeur with no experience, I do enjoy listening to your thinking. it seemed to make the 6 by 6 come out a little off. also when I watched the saw spinning... it seemed to be not smooth. just wondering if it makes a difference? cheers Peter
I think he put a wedge in to keep the blade from pinching. Someone up above suggests making the horizontal cut first then the vertical. Makes sense to me but I have never operated one of these.
Maybe you should consider making a video of tips for flying a drone. I've never seen anyone fly one so well so casually!
Why did you make the first vertical cut down the center instead of just slabbing off the top? Was it to verify the mill is centered on the pith of the log?
