I'd been saving my money to take a round trip with my Mom, but she passed away last year. But, she will be with me in spirit when I depart soon on the Queen Mary out of Brooklyn. Her photograph will be sitting on the desk, and I'll carry it around the ship with me....Love Forever Mom. ..Rodney
Thank you, +Richard, and your wife for this delightful tour of a fascinating ship. What a delightful experience. Would love to someday enjoy a cruise that has a full bathtub and such spacious accommodations.
Oh you are mind kind of gal! Totally real and not stuffy. Myself and my hubby honeymooned on QM2 in 2015. We so would have clicked with you. Don't get me wrong. There are lots of different classes of people who cruise with Cunard. Some that think the word owes them and others that are real, down to earth and that are totally genuine. You fall in to the latter! Hope to see you you on QM2 in the future. Wonderful post X
Great video! We did the Panama Canal from Fort Lauderdale to San Fransisco on the QE starting the 18th - been home a week. Your video made me miss it even more. I also realized that I could have packed much more informally for daytime.
I wish they would have called this cruise ship something else instead of Queen Elizabeth. To me, the Queen Elizabeth was a transatlantic liner who was the sister of Queen Mary. The QE2 was her successor. The last liner is the QM2.
Richard, thank you for being the camera man.. special thanks to your wife for being a fantastic guide and narrator. Would love to trade email for pictures :) Cheers, Bob & Holly San Diego, California
Read on a Cunard forum that cruises are cancelled until November. Tried to book a December cabin last week but my sailing companion's kennel all booked. No cancellations unless forced to I guess. There was an opinion on the forum they think April 2021 for reopening. I went ahead and shopped for evening wear and booked QM2 Dec 2021. JJ's House online site has custom options for women's clothing. Your wife may like for height, thanks for giving closet experience.
In addition to the "Grills" restaurants, passengers in Princess and Queen's Grills have private deck space (as shown in the video) and a very attractive Grills Lounge for drinks and afternoon tea. There is a second lounge (Concierge) on the Queen Mary 2. Many people prefer the Princess Grill cabins on Queen Mary 2 to those on the Queen Elizabeth and Queen Victoria. The QM2's Princess cabins have a different shape than the other two ships have - basically square - and because of that they get a larger balcony. But I prefer the restaurant, lounge and deck space on the smaller "Queen's". If Cunard orders another ship I hope they take the best aspects of the existing ship and make what will be a perfect vessel!
thanks for that - one question can we take our little boy? almost feel I have been on the cruise now, its amazing how financially accessible cruising is nowadays compared to the old days - i would have been in steerage but now looking to experience first class x
I don't work for Cunard but we took our sons a few years ago and whilst we had teenagers (not a 6 year old) we all had a great time. There were a few young kids on board of that age so I don't see why not.
I would like to add a bit more accurate detail to this good video. There are no class grades on Cunard, however the cabins are based on the grill dining you choose. So there are four grades, Queen's Grill, Princess Grill, Britannia Club and Britannia Grill. Your cabins are based on what you wish to pay! You are able to eat in your cabin for dinner if you wish for all grills. With regards to the power sockets, they correctly state there is only one UK socket, however the socket in the bathroom/shower room doesn't take the UK shaver plug! The advantage of dining Queen's and Princess Grill and Britannia Club is that you have your own restaurant allowing you to have breakfast, lunch and dinner in them and you can dine whenever you wish in the evening from 6.30 to 9pm. The Britannia grill there are two sittings 6.00 & 8.30pm. The menus are the same, except in Britannia grill you don't have the option of an A la Carte menu. Having travelled on the QE on numerous occasions in Princess Grill, Britannia Club and Britannia Grill, my preferred option is Britannia Club, the restaurant is small and very cosy, the cabins are the same as the Britannia grade, the sleeping area is the same as the Princess Grill. Whatever grade you choose you'll enjoy it, however if you do a transatlantic choose the QM2 it's built for the Atlantic, the Lizzie and Vicki aren't - they roll more in severe seas.
Totally agree with Geoff's comments. We have also been on the QM2 and she is a ocean liner better built for the TA crossing. Thanks for watching Geoff. There will (hopefully) be a new one for the QM2 soon - the missus is going in a few weeks.
Richard Steel : In December 2015 my wife and I travelled on the QM2 back from the Canaries and a weather bomb had hit the western side of the UK and we hit this going across the Bay of Biscay and as you can imagine the seas were really rough, at its worst the QM2 went 4 degrees off the perpendicular and quite honestly you hardly noticed it. We said at the time thank goodness we weren't on the Lizzie or Vicki! We're doing a trans-Atlantic November/December this year and yes we're going on the QM2!
Princess, and Queens grill, both have their own restaurant and bar. You have a dedicated table so you can eat at any time, In Brittania, you still have a dedicated table and servers, but you are restricted as when you can dine. Either early or late. In the grills, you show up whenever you want. Also, they will cook things which are not on the menu, as long as it is within reason.
Not correct. All 3 Cunard ships do trans-Atlantic crossings as all do round-the-world cruises. But, it is true that the QM2 is the only true ocean liner so it does most of the crossings during the year. This particular cruise was the first leg of a round the world cruise which started in Southampton. As its first port of call was New York, it had to cross the ocean. It will also have crossed the Pacific by now.
All ocean liners and cruise ships have different classes! What are you talking about? You do know that this ship is in the 21st century with all the relevant modern safety features right? Radar, enough life boats, welded hull not riveted, double hull, VHF radio etc. Also, the lower class on these ships are nothing like what 3rd class was like on the Titanic! It is still a very respectable class. Similar to staying in a budget hotel, where as the upper classes are like staying at the Ritz!
_Penhaligons_ are my favourite lovely bottles and scents but the acid in Blenheims Bouquet shampoo rips my face off (ooo free skin peel! Hadn't thought of that previously!) Test it on a small area of skin - not your face - before you use it.
he ship is getting old and boring. Just came back from 16 days Cunard. It degraded a lot. food quality and quantity BAD. especially at the Lido. Super short handed. It is at the Carnival cruise style. No dance host, no queens room Hostess, no professional dancer exhibition, etc. will not recommend for this price ( we are diamond on Cunard, not a newbie)
Completely agree with your point on dressing up - You’re on a world class ship crossing the Atlantic, be luxurious! Have fun with it!

Did you take the cruise yet?
May you have a wonderful time and keep her in your heart.
Rodney, I am so sorry to hear that your mother passed away. Kindest regards.
Rodney, I truly hope you had a fabulous cruise. Please continue to do it and honor your mother every time.
This is the best, most informative video I've seen on Cunard. Thank you, thank you!
Thank you for this comment Katie. This means a lot to us.
Thanks so much--that was very helpful. Looking forward to my next voyage!

We are totally new to all this, November crossing coming up.
Thank you, very informative. From somewhere I need to get a dinner jacket and the works.

I love it! The ghostly glockenspiel at two in the morning. Very informative video. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you Barbara, I could not agree more. We had the best time.

Wonderful ship; great cruises.
Great information, thank-you.
excellent video and advice
Unfortunately, our next cruise aboard the QM2 has been canceled because of the corona virus. Be safe everyone.

Options are so confusing. Don’t know difference yet between Princess and Brittania areas
Princess, and Queens grill, both have their own restaurant and bar. Is Queen Elizabeth an cruise ship? Why it's crossing atlantic ocean??
I have enjoyed riding on Queen Elizabeth
I thought that only the Queen Mary 2 made transatlantic crossings

Richard Steel Great video! Your wife doesnt sound American?
What does it cost for the ocean view suite?
I am sorry we are not travel agents just travelers - the amount you pay is really going to depend on when you go and how flexible you can be.
Lovely
Are You Mrs Johnson ?
Wow the classes remind me to much of story's of the Titanic think I'll skip this ship in future ideas on which to travel.

You are blithering a lot, a lot !
nice entertaintment nice inviormrnt
I don't want no wire hangers.
“The P1 is the highest, only the .....is higher“ so it’s *not* the highest? 🥴
P1 is highest Princess Grill level, Queens grill is a higher level.
_Penhaligons_ are my favourite lovely bottles and scents but the acid in Blenheims Bouquet shampoo rips my face off (ooo free skin peel! Hadn't thought of that previously!) Test it on a small area of skin - not your face - before you use it.
Surprised, no silk covers over the white bed linen. That's a coffee-spill moment waiting to happen Remiss l thought?
144p nice
How many times can one person say Um in a video?
I hate shower curtains they always stick to you.Not impressed with that.
Johnny Norfolk do you prefer glass shower doors?
