      Why don’t these jokers focus & discuss those people actively doing harm to the George Floyd and Black Lives Matter movement and actually diluting the narrative???
      Is it because these people do not really care?
      The Black Squares actually represent Blackout Tuesday which is a collective action to protest racism and police brutality. The President cannot call for “first the looting then the shooting” in response to BLACKOUT TUESDAY...This action of BLACK SQUARES is The action, in response to the killings of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, and Breonna Taylor.
      Maybe look for examples and situations where the Police treating the peaceful protestors badly by using teargas or still being aggressive.
      Or the people Looting and vandalising property when they should be peacefully protesting.
      These guys are sending out the wrong message. They could easily discuss topics that remind us about George Floyd & Ahmaud Arbery or they could discuss the bricks set out which could be planted there to supply people/protestors with ammunition when confronted with bad police officers.

  • @klesstwo
    @klesstwo 4 года назад +295

    i really wished i could chime in into their conversation about what actually helps the system at around 30:00 and i'll add what i think:
    1. Akaash's point is right, there has to be an independent entity to overview the complaints on cops and ensure that no conflicts of interests are at play in the handling of those complaints. As an engineer in my workplace, we call those auditors, and they are either internal - within the company - or external - from an independent authority.
    We fear and revere those internal and external auditors, internal auditors dig into the nitty gritty details to ensure that everything is sound for when external auditors carry out their audits, and if external auditors have very big findings, they could revoke our ISO certificates which puts the company in a very bad position in the marketplace, or even revoke our certificate to operate.
    I know this is like comparing apples to oranges, but the fundamental concept is literally the same, if you have people foul play, illegal activities, corruption, misdemeanour, you want yourself as POLICE to identify it and kill it at the source, which apparently police departments aren't doing which brings the second point.
    2. The law enforcement system has to has certain key performance indices or balance scorecards, to accurately measure the success of their efforts in their communities. A very sound way to fix faults of any managerial system is to revamp the methodology of measuring department success to reflect the actual core value that this department serves, and overlay a representative reward system for employees to promote the culture that meats the customer satisfaction.
    I have no data, but i hear that police in the US are rewarded for the number of arrests that they make, the more arrests the better rewards or the higher likelihood of promotion. If that truly is the case, then you have a system that ensures there are always more people to arrest to keep the police officers happy.
    If it was a case of, the police are rewarded for lesser crime rates in an area, higher residential satisfaction of police services, higher quality of living in a giving area, then the whole focus of the officers is going to achieve that, especially if they are given the right tools and methods to do so.
    3. Lastly, the bad apples thing between the protestors and the police officers. Police officers are trained to be what they are, they have a code of conduct to attest to, they have people to report to, that's their line of duty and job, bad apples are not accepted. Protestors are not "professional protestors" where you train them how to not loot and how to voice your words clearly, they are merely a product of the educational system and the overall life that they have lived.
    Better trained police officers with focus on serving and protecting the people will give you less bad apples. Same way that better education of the general public, and ensuring they sufficiently learn about how systems work rather than teach them quasi-useless subjects with less than averagely-trained teachers, also will give you lesser bad apples when those people go out to the streets to protest.

      Excellent point. Internal affairs is a self audit but that is rarely enough for the reasons that these guys mention in the video. I believe the DOJ has measures to come in and assess law enforcement systems, but that is either on demand or punitive, and the amount of work it takes to interface with the DOJ teams means more desk jockeys are needed to host them. With budgets being what they are police are going to offer up the end of their bench to handle that job.

    I’m Canadian so I’ll give a back story, on May 27th 29-year-old Regis Korchinski-Paquet family had called the Toronto police because she was emotionally distressed, which when they showed up somehow she ended up falling to her death 24 stories down, and the won’t release the details to “prevent potential witnesses memories from being tainted”. Trust me I wanted to be ignorant and say oh we’re not that bad in Canada but the sad truth is racism and police brutality have no borders.

    A black woman in Toronto named Regis Korchinski-Paquet was killed by being pushed off a ten story building by police last week. The police tried to cover it up and told the media not to report it. They left the body where it dropped overnight and her brother had to post it to social media so that people would know about it. Thats why Canada is also protesting. It happens here too. Canadians aren't nice, we're discreet.

    Andrews take at 17:48 is spot on. There needs to be a significant change in the culture of law enforcement. I get it, officers are scared because they want to go home to their families like the rest of us. But why do Americans often respect first responders more than the average joe? It’s because we respect their courage in the moment of danger. They are the ones that put themselves at risk for us. But if they are equally scared as us, you or I might as well be in law enforcement. If there are officers that can’t handle these situations, maybe they shouldn’t be in law enforcement, and that’s okay.
    I think we also need to implement a more encompassing oversight process. I’d imagine precincts document all calls, so what if captains or lieutenants from other districts review these calls to determine if officers are following proper protocols. If there is an officer with multiple complaints, then put them on desk duty for a few weeks. Lastly, to remove these “bad” cops, police chiefs should be more encourages to terminate officers more swiftly, just like the situation in Atlanta a few days ago

    • @jamiebarr3118
      @jamiebarr3118 4 года назад +1

      I'm an EMT. I like what your saying, but the difference between us first responders and police is that first responders are not supposed to put their life in danger. The first thing we do when sizing up a scene is to gauge whether or not we might be injured by attempting to save someone else, because the worst case scenario would be to need another person to have to save both of us now. Police are supposed to be in danger, that is their job, though they are not supposed to blindly succumb to injury, they are supposed to protect themselves and each other if necessary, but the key word is necessary - these innocent deaths were not necessary.

    • @Corey1873
      @Corey1873 4 года назад

      I think a key issue is that there are simply not enough police. It's not a popular job so if you tighten up the restrictions then you have a severe lack a police officers and people are able to get away with murder and rape and such a lot more easily. Maybe if there's a conscription where they can draft any adult to the police force for 2 years like they do with guys in the military in South Korea. Then you would have enough police to actually start changing the culture.

My older brothers and sister had started to school when, sometimes, they would come in and ask for a buttered biscuit or something and my mother, impatiently, would tell them no. But I would cry out and make a fuss until I got what I wanted. I remember well how my mother asked me why I couldn't be a nice boy like Wilfred; but I would think to myself that Wilfred, for being so nice and quiet, often stayed hungry. Don't put him on the same level as an Einstein, Hawking, Mozart etc... He's more intelligent than 99% of humanity for sure. He's extremely intelligent no doubt, he wouldn't have succeeded as he did. I'm an ape compared to him but that doesn't make him a genius.

      You think he will be remembered as an Einstein, Mozart or Hawking ? Do you think if he hadn't existed, we would really miss his achievements the same way we would miss Einstein's theory of relativity ? Do you think in a hundred years we'll talk about him like we talk about the men I mentioned ?

So just as Elon is an innovator, I would argue that Einstein was too. It was the originality of Einstein's solutions to many problems facing physics at the time which made him a genius. • @jamiebarr3118
      @jamiebarr3118 4 года назад +1

      I can't blame people for being mad about their businesses being looted. I also think these riots brought up an important point about coronavirus. A week ago it was "IF YOU'RE NOT SOCIAL DISTANCING, YOU'RE EVIL!" and "QUARANTINE, BITCH!" and the media demonized the people wanting to open up their businesses and put food on their table, but now you have half the country out on the street in very close, cramped mobs often with no masks and not one person has mentioned coronavirus. Last issue I want to point out (but not the only other issue) is how much this week has shown the importance of the 2nd amendment. You've got hundreds to thousands of stores that have been vandalized and looted and set on fire and there simply aren't enough police to protect all of them and nobody (except conservatives) are talking about the relevance of guns now. Obviously the police situation might be more important now, but conservatives have been raising lots of valid points about all of this IMO. We all think the bad cops should be punished but not many are talking about the other implications of all of this. Like how planned parenthood has effectively killed more black babies than have been born. About 40% of abortions are for black women, and the annual # of abortions hovers above 600,000, which means well over 200,000 black babies are killed every year as well. I doubt you care about those as most people don't, but I think that's an important number even if it's off topic, given the black fertility rate has gone down over the years and is around 1.7 births per mother which is sub-replacement level.
