Yes the ICE is stylish. One point you never mentioned was its unreliability when running into Belgium. This ICE variant encounters problems with Belgium's rail infrastructure. DB has had to cancel a number of trains and the revised timetable could last for some time.

Oh really? I saw on twitter today that DB has opened an information booth in Brussels-Midi and was a bit surprised why. I only heard that Thalys had some problems between Brussels and germany. On my two DB trips on this route everything worked out as it should.

I also faced this problem. It’s chaotic and ICE staff did not explain anything, just only one announcement and I had to ask people on the train.
It ended up not reaching Brussels. I found the statistics in zugfinder and it’s terrible route now.

@@travellingboardingtime Indeed. There have been many many cancellations in recent months by DB. Either the ICE is cancelled altogether or else the Brussels-bound ICE is terminated at Cologne or Aachen. DB must be working on a solution but I am unaware of whether or not it has succeeded.

Yes. That’so sad because I had to cancel everything in Brussels. If i know that ar first, i will not choose to have a German trip this time.

@@travellingboardingtime One of the issues with rail operators is that they do not *tend* to be as customer-focused. Their aim is to operate the trains only. Classic example of this is Eurostar (the train firm which considers itself an airline !) which has failed over many years to communicate with its passengers when things go wrong. It was the same recently with Thalys which suffered several failures over a short period. It was so serious in the case of Thalys failure outside Paris that passengers were stranded in extreme heat, with no air-conditioning for hours ... this news was even featured on RUclips by Hong Kong's SCMP.

BR403 and 406 were actually built by a consortium of Siemens and ADtranz/Bombardier. The whole Siemens product is a Velaro family, but it was released later and is built on the platform of ICE 3.

Thanks for the very informative comment! I didn't know that Bombardier was involved.

Good wifi! Was your son (wifi specialist no 1) also happy with the wifi?😁 And indeed, a nice train. Do all ICE trains have space voor bikes?

    • @Reens-Rails

As a father i would say silence is the best measure 😁😁. He was quiet untill we reached the german border. Than YT Shorts and his games stopped the cooperation. Funny coincidence 😂🙄
Bikes are mostly forbidden in ICE-trains. Only the ICE-T and the new ICE 4 (the 100th trainset was delievered a few weeks ago) have 8 bicycle spaces.
In addition the new ICE 3neo (in service end of 22) will feature 8 spots as well.
If you like to travel by bike and train you will have to choose the ICs. Every single IC has a big compartment (half of the car) for 16 bikes . That is a bit more relaxed as you have more space to handle and move arround your bike at your final station.

Train Wifi worse than Starlink’s sattelite network technologyonly used on the Brightline Florida trains, aka the world’s best train wifi solution, is not good enough.

Hi! I’m new to Europe . I have a train from Brussels to cologne . Since there is no display inside the train . How do I know where to get down?

    • @Reens-Rails
      @Reens-Rails  10 месяцев назад

There are displays right next to the door. Inside and outside. But if you have a ticket for ICE you cant get on a wrong train. They all go to Cologne.
At 1:18 you can see the red text from the outside display under the 1.
