Honestly putting a few tracks aside they really can’t compare to the other two trilogies. I don’t think it’s John Williams losing his touch I think it’s Star Wars losing it’s creativity. He needs something to go off you know?

I’m gonna be dead serious: this leitmotif is a bop. It’s so fun and satisfying to listen to. The Resistance’s music is inspiring, just like the faction it’s representing wants to be.

i wouldnt say its the new republic theme, its more alluding or at bare minimum a reference to the resistance, the resistance would go on to be militaristic and want to crush the first order, where as the new republic is anti war, pro disarmament, and peaceful, theres no real reason they would share the same theme
Either like or hate the sequels, it’s almost like a hint of foreshadowing the resistance.
Ehhh, I wouldn’t really call it the New Republic theme, I’m pretty sure they’re alluding to the Resistance.
This is such a killer track. One of the flat-out ballsiest of John Williams' career IMO.
And for me at least, it REQUIRED repeated listenings. I thought it was a mess and pretty unmemorable the first time. The melody felt all over the place and just didn't pop. I thought it was hard to follow too. Then I listened to it a second time...then a third time...suddenly the whole piece opened up. It was like I was really hearing the theme for the very first time. Just keep listening, feel its groove, and you may see how incredibly written this piece of music is. Bravo Mr Williams.

Thomas Lecoent I agree, though the prequel scores were even worse in some ways. There are some amazing musical moments in Revenge of the Sith that get almost drowned out by all the lava noises.
This applies for the entire soundtrack IMO. I really hope people realize this before they dismiss it as the weakest of the 7 scores.
+Darth Stabilis The emotion of the music stood out to me when I saw it the second time. I honestly did not fully recognize "Rey's Theme" the first time I saw the movie, and I think that's because he liked to stick to the first few notes. There are critical scenes you get the whole theme, but it was hard to remember the first time.
But holy shit, at the end of the lightsaber fight and you get the huge orchestral blast as the camera pushes in...once I knew those were HER notes, I realized John Williams still has the magic. The same exact notes when she was on Jakku, when she said her name for the first time, when she saw the view of the green planet, when she ran away from Maz, when she was abducted, when she was climbing Starkiller. This unfortunately did not all click and accumulate the first time but how could it? That's a fucking dumb thing to hold against a soundtrack with this much heart put into it. My feelings on this score have become so strong in only the last day or two that it's honestly becoming painful to still see the negativity. I hope people catch up! :P

Despite being made in the mid to late 1990s, the X-Wing games were superior in almost every aspect that truly mattered.
-Better ship handling.
-Deeper mechanics.
-Better 'feel' and closer to the movies in it.
-Can actually be played from the cockpit.
-Some degree of AI control.
The only places where, imo, it fell flat that truly mattered was the mission scripting and objectives. AI would sometimes have problems following those objectives.
But seriously. Find a copy of the game. Play around with it. It was, and IMO still *is*, the greatest Space Sim ever made.

People who say only Rey's theme was good but everything else "was boring as shit" (or something to the equivalence), then simply put, they either have zero taste in music and/or can't appreciate musical diversity. :) Also, not every soundtrack has to be the equivalent of "Imperial March", that is what those people don't comprehend.

After here Mando season 3 episode 3, and the seeds of the first order is indeed been planted in yesterday's episode.
I got three words for that rendition: Impressive, most impressive!
It’s disheartening especially after seeing the excruciating struggle and sacrifices to resist The Empire in Andor, only to have the New Republic torturing people, be corrupt like the Old Republic, not care about the Outer Rim and fail to see the currents of darkness amassing in the galaxy again. It makes since why Leia would get frustrated and say ‘f it, I’ll start my own new rebellion’.
I see Mando as a prequel or set up to the sequels! It’s almost like a foreshadowing of the resistance and rise of the first order.

For some reason seeing Poe so effortlessly cleared the sky of TIE fighters and then went on to rain death upon stormtroopers, reminded me of the rare occasions in Planetside 2 when a highly-skilled pilot single-handedly established something close to a no-fly zone and brought players on the ground to the point of rage-quitting.

I think The Force awakens already divided the fanbase pretty much, and it was accentuated with The last Jedi. But unified again in the Rise of Skywalker. That one was shit for everyone.

This song perfectly captivates the heroes of Star Wars. Man, I have to admit, I love the resistance! It's basically everyone who was awesome in the rebellion (like Admiral Ackbar and Leia) into one group without all of the other corrupt politicians. And being their own vigilante group makes it still feel like they're got that rebellion spark!

Forget where, but I remember seeing somebody mention that a really cool way to handle the power difference between the Resistance and the First Order would be to have the Resistance rediscover and reactivate old Separatist droid factories. It just made sense, given the slight similarities in their main march themes.
Shostakovich's 5th symphony 4th movement. There's a pitch-for-pitch quote at 0:52, but the whole piece is based on that motif.

man, there’s nothing like being in the theater, seeing The Force Awakens for the first time, and this scene starts... the X-Wing squadron flies into Takodana and this song starts playing. i couldn’t wipe the smile off my face. even though the storyline of the sequels isn’t the greatest, this scene was one of the best in star wars!
The March of the Resistance is one of the best Tracks to come from the Sequel Trilogy along with Rey and Kylo Ren’s Themes. It just suits the Resistance so well. When the X-Wings are flying over the Lake to Maz’s Castle in The Force Awakens to the Bombers approaching the Dreadnaught at the beginning of The Last Jedi and the Speeders heading towards the Walkers at the end of the film. It shows their resilience, even when they are reduced to rusted, decades old Speeders the Resistance still marches on. And it does a good job of making you want them to win at the same time.
The Force has always been strong with you, Maestro Williams. This march now proves you are finally a Jedi yourself!

I thought I was just crazy - Trade Federation March 1:15-1:21, then listen to March of the resistance - 0:15-0:20....also Williams kind of phoned it in on this soundtrack, I hated the prequels, but they at least had pretty awesome soundtracks...I think John is just getting too old to be that creative anymore, just reusing ideas

This is hands down John Williams' finest work since Duel of the Fates.
I personally enjoyed some of his tracks from AotC (as long as I don't watch the movie *shudders), and from RotS (the credits/A New Hope I love listening to as it incorporates pretty much every iconic theme in the saga).
Battle Of The Heroes is better than this.

It displays very well the drastic measures that the Resistance is willing to take to achieve it's goal, and the last notes at the end don't seem like an end at all, like a "To Be Continued" sort of thing-
To be honest, my explanation can't measure how good this thing is, it's just epic.
John Williams is amazing, on-par with other modern composers like Waldetoft.

Dude, this scene was literally the most peak, everything from the finn with a lightsaber vs that stormtrooper with the baton, to the part where you can see just something on the horizon, to the shot of them flying over the lake when poe is revealed alive, this scene was amazing 😍

Alexander Simmons. I understand that, but it could be replaced with another theme in the next Episode. The Empire had a theme in A New Hope and it was replaced by the much better "Imperial March" in Empire Strikes Back.
Good point. The Knights of Ren definitely need their own distinct theme from Kylo Ren, The First Order and Snoke.
Well too be fair the Empire didn't get their well known villain theme until their second movie either.

What I believe is truly magnificent about this work is the struggle and choas shown in the beginning of the song, yet the the voice of the rebellion is slowly get louder and faster. This displays the conflict the dark and light sides are going through, then to be seen that both sides are at war in the song. No One, will ever, be able to beat John William in conveying stories and feelings in his music.
