I always found it funny how, no matter if it’s Power Rangers, Super Sentai or pretty much any super team where they have a specific color that color is basically their entire wardrobe as a civilian.
When Tommy became the black ranger in Dino Thunder, he literally said he now has to get more black clothing lol. He was wearing normal clothes until those powers
You know, I feel like there's real potential for a show where it turns out the powers actually start to warp those that use them and they basically lose themselves to being a ranger to explain this weird-ass behavior
Here's a little fun fact regarding this particular Power Rangers movie - I don't mean to brag, but the actress who was Alpha 5's suit actor, Peta-Maree Rixon, is my cousin. (And by 'suit actor' I mean she only did the physical acting in the suit, while Richard Steven Horvitz did the voice of Alpha 5. Just to clear up any potential confusion.)
My ex and I are still extremely close and we have a running gag where we quote one scene from this movie that doubles as an encouraging statement of affection. "Adam? Adam what's wrong?" "I'm a frog." "Yes a frog. Like the one you kiss! Get a handsome prince." Picks up my spirits everytime.
I was a freshman in high-school when this movie came out in theaters. This was when the Mighty Morphin series was still airing in the afternoons, making new episodes. The marketing around this movie was insane, I remember older kids in higher classes were hyped about it. I remember they aired the music video for the movie after an episode of the X-Files, a primetime television show intended for adult's, on a Thursday night. That's like airing the music video for TMNT Mutants in Manhattan after an episode of Law and Order Special Victims Unit. That's how insane the marketing was. The only other kid's show I remember getting this much mass marketing for it's theatrical movie was Transformers the movie in 86
I must've seen this like 7 times in the cinema. My poor granddad (may he RIP), he just wanted to see Fox and the Hound. Just once, just for a change LOL
How could you just blaze past the yellow ranger standing up, breaking the glass covering an emergency button. Saying 'taking care of business' and the button just kicking Ivan in the crotch?
The kid is like a ranger fan boy we can vicariously live through. If they tell him he could be one one day it's like telling any kid could, good marketing
thank you for opening up this pivotal memory for me. I stg i used to quote this movie so much in kindergarten my teachers asked my parents if I was okay. first hyper fixation 😂
Is this the start of the Power Rangers content from Veridis Joe? I wouldn't be mad. I could use more of a trip down memory lane of the best Power Rangers shows
"Aw damn, they really rolled this n[...] like a Backwood, you can really smoke this n[...]. He look like that one Baki image" caught me so fucking off guard Joe what the FUCK I should NOT be laughing this hard
I had an uncle who had the power rangers fighting game on Snes. Every time he picked Ivan Ooze, I just put the controller down and walked away because I choose life.
This shit came out when I was twelve and I was so inspired by the breathtaking martial arts action that I promptly tried to do a back flip and broke my finger in my living room. 12/10
i think the main reason as to why i was so obsessed with this movie was because, it was the only thing power rangers i had. i got a few more dvds later on, but they where from different series, so the movie was the closest i could get to the original show. but yeah this was my shit as a kid. i really need to watch the show now that i can finally do so
the only thing i’ve ever known about power rangers is that the movie was filmed here in sydney .,, where i’ve lived my whole life .. even tho so many of the locations ain’t actually still around, sometimes my mind will come to a blank while walking around and i’ll be stuck on the thought “ah yes, the place from power rangers”. it hurts me.
this vid is fire needs more views man. honestly tho it seems like the chill short form content is working better for you in views. ur new vid is the first I’ve been recommended in forever so you doing something right
Yoooo joey this is that back to basics, return to peak content, Im LOVING IT I want to see more of you just breaking down shows you love in a hilarious way
I loved this movie as a kid, my dad took us to see it. I was one of few kids who stayed during the credits long enough to get to Rita and Zedd's return. "Uh oh" indeed
I was dying laughing during this whole video. Awesome Job Joe!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Could you please cover Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie? It's basically Wedding Crashers mixed with Hitman.
OMG it's crazy how much of this movie I remember after not seeing it for like 20 years. My brother used to play this back to back to back. So nostalgic. I think about this movie often. Thanks for the video!
I just discovered this and I'm in tears laughing. Your review is not just hilarious but the editing is amazing. Really inspiring. I've been doing reviews for over a decade and this felt so fresh. You just earned a sub bro.
Power rangers was my shit when I was growing up in the 90's. A few years ago, I made a hard af trap/trill AMV of this movie, but it got copy struck. I'm still mad about it.
Ngl, you are the reason rewatching this movie again. I couldn't watch this movie because of Jason passing. Power rangers (specifically this movie) really inspired me and making characters. Thanks for nerding out and talking about the movie. Really made watching the movie easier. Thanks soooo much
I remember that I had this movie on an old ass DVD and I used to watch it all the time. That purple guy scared the fuck outta me and I used to hide whenever he was on screen.
Come to think of it, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie, as much I adore it as a long time Power Rangers fan of 30+ years, is a bit darker than I remember. Sure, I like the color balance, goofy ass cheesy '90s kid movie humor, martial art fights and cinematography of the film but the more I rewatch the film as an adult, it has a bit of a DARK FANTASY feel to some of the movie's aesthetic. And part of the film has a bit of a '90s Comic Book feel to it too, particularly with the Ranger suits. Them being armored and battle ready and all. But what is so dark fantasy about it is yes, Ivan Ooze and his wicked, scary, evil purple tyrant of a self. His face makeup is very reminiscent of something you would see in dark fantasy films from the '80s like Jim Henson's films The Dark Crystal and Labyrinth. Even how he designed the High Grand Witch in The Witches (1990). Some other design aspects of Ivan also remind me of the Lord of Darkness from Legend, a dark fantasy 1985 film Tom Cruise was in that hardly anyone talks about nowadays. When I look at Ivan, he was - as Captain Logan of Geekvolution in his old Superhero Rewind review for this a decade ago put it - a kid-friendly version of Freddy Krueger from the Nightmare on Elm Street series but for Power Rangers. I see Ivan Ooze as a cross between Freddy Krueger and Angelica Huston's High Grand Witch. Also, when this movie gets deep with death, jeez. The backstory about Phaedos is dark in itself. Those who go to the planet to get the Great Power end up dead. How? War? The obstacles we saw like Rangers overcame in the actual film like the dead Triceratops Skeleton and the Wolf Warrior Guards protecting the Great Power wall? How death defying is the journey to Phaedos? It is to this day one if the many plot holes never fully explained from this movie. Even drafts of the film script from what I heard got dark in places. Like for instance, in one of the original drafts of the 1995 movie script, the script version of the Rangers' unmorphed fight with the Tenga - err... TENGU warriors was called to be fucking brutal. Didn't hear about this till info for it surfaced in 2021 or so. But damn. The Tengus in the script did some serious fucked up violence to a few of the Rangers. What got me was in it, Adam's hand would get pecked hard by a Tengu, bloodshed there, Kimberly would be, probably when flying in the air by a Tengu Warrior's grip blood dabs to be visible from her back and Tommy would have Tengus flying around left and right hack and slashing him and then some bloodshed. Glad this version of the Tengu Warrior fight didn't get filmed. It was only in one of the script drafts that Saban wasn't happy with from the film team for this. It was obvious why such dark stuff like it was cut. Back when Power Rangers was at its peak the time the show was going on and by the time The Movie would be out and onward, the franchise had underwent complaints and controversies with concerned parents (mainly soccer mom Karens of the time) about the level of violence and martial arts fighting in the series. At least when the Mighty Morphin actors filmed the show and the movie, they did the martial arts fights in a way of safety even despite how Saban himself is with the show's stance being Non-Union, not paying the actors enough (no winder why Austin, Thuy and Walter left mid-season 2), etc. But they did have the main cast, known for their martial arts and/or gymnastic backgrounds, perform their own stunts for the unmorphed fights and physical stunt and suit actors for when the Rangers are morphed fighting Putties or whatnot. And when I look back at the film, in regards of Ivan using his ooze jars to give to kids to give their parents to leap to their deaths,, what a metaphorical allegory of them to jump off a cliff to commit suicide. That there is very dark, even for Power Rangers and in this movie's standard back then.
Also I’d really love this genre of videos, especially since movie review/commentary videos like this usually just regurgitate twitter memes/drama of the week, but Veridis actually tells jokes, even when they use twitter references
Hey VJ, I hear you talking about some great shows. I was wondering if you'd give Rise of the TMNT a chance? It's highly underrated and deserves a look, I think. If you like anime, badass women, and strong themes of brotherhood, you'd like Rise.
I love how campy this movie is. And zoids fight was amazing and surprisingly still holds today. Even tho the frog was my favorite zoid. I can't lie a mech with missile wings just beats out everybody
I was completely under the impression that Zordon was some sort A.I when I was younger. Seeing that there's a body makes me question so much. Like is he ill and can't walk. Is he just sitting on some wizard of OZ type deal? I'm confused.
new sub, only watched a handful of videos so far, but your channel just feels kinda like a chill - yet viscerally exciting and decisive - night in with friends. it's just a fuckin energy i need more of in my life thank you

You can tell Ivan’s actor is really enjoying himself in this role.
