The mention of "Hovis Bread" made me sit up straight and remember my baker"s apprenticeship where the English baker that took me on had the little breadpans with "HOVIS" stamped in them. The flour was a patented "Hovis" flour and the bread was popular here in Canada! CHEERS FROM HERE!!!

Quite a collection there of Standard cars and vans. The vans are probably few and far between now as they were worked to within an inch of their lives. Thanks Rick for sharing these photos and also thanks to those who sent photos in, great collection. 👍👍

08:21 In 1959 in Kenya my father had a Vanguard van, KAJ912. No side windows, just wire mesh with canvas covers outside to roll down, plus a rear seat converted from a packing case. My mother learnt to drive on it. In 1960 we went on safari - 14 punctures in the space of 400 miles.

At 12-38 I think the Standard Penant is next to the Austin A30 (in the fore ground). I could only make out one foreign vehicle in that massive car park, a Renault 4 (i think). Also a good bit of parking by the Three FB Vauxhall's, one of each model, one FB Saloon, one FB Estate, one FB VX4/90. Another great put together video Richard.

Enjoyed your video. It reminded me that my very first car was a pre war Standard 9 which I purchased for £20 on the day I passed my driving test in 1957. I sold it one year later for, once again £20. Great little car!

9.07 my father had a phase 3 vanguard, but the rear lights were round and a bit bulbous with the indicator inset, whereas those are vertical, more like an ensign or the vanguard 6

Although I owned a number of English cars in years gone by, my only exposure to Standards was my father-in-law's Vanguard and a family friend's elusive Standard V8. I think the V8 was produced around 1938 and only for a short time. As I remember it, these cars suffered from cooling problems.

Oooo those V8s are properly rare now, I guess you saw the one I featured in last year's Tatton Park video? First time I've ever seen one

5:27 The unusual 1920's Standard with only a rear door. Registration number MH 3018. This is not the SLO4 model. It is the smaller V3 model which was rated at 11.4 H.P. (1307 cc) The lack of dumb irons on the front and and a gravity fuel tank in front of the windscreen confirm this. The positioning of the side lights on top of the front wings dates the car to either 1925 or 1926 the last year of production. Earlier examples would have had the side lights on the side of the windscreen.

Thanks for the Sunday afternoon pics of Standard cars. The colour pic with the Standard Companion, trailer with lost wheel and green Peugeot 504. This could be taken in South Africa. The scenery certainly fits! The 504 plate CA 25789 seems to be a Cape Town plate. Black on yellow plates were used between 1976 to the late 90's. White on black before 1976 The presence of the much older Standard is strange though, very few were sold here. I still see the odd one at classic car gatherings.

The beige Pennant: A previous owner drove into something and instead of fixing the car properly just bolted on wings and apron from a Ten which were presumably to hand!
