    I'm torn on getting one for my 14" MBP. I just recently moved away from my 30" Cinema Display to avoid the connection limitations, not being able to watch most movies due to no HCDP support, etc. I know I can get adapters to connect other devices like my Xbox Series S, etc. but my LG has all of those necessary inputs built in. I just don't want to be locked in to Apple's ideas on what they think I need lol. At least when it comes to my display.

    I don't get why so many have been trashing this display. The build quality looks to be a lot better than LG and there aren't many 5K options. They could have done a better job with the camera.. The 5K display on my 2020 iMac is top notch.

      Although everything you mentioned is true, as a C1 owner myself, I have to say that it’s not very bright. In fact in daylight it seems too dim on the brightest setting. I guess it’s the drawback of OLED technology. However I still think that true blacks > high brightness.
      Best of both worlds would be miniLED, however such TVs cost an arm and a leg.

    Apple cables in general haven't been known to last very long. So, with that nondetachable cable, If your power cable gets messed up, replace the whole monitor. Also, people live with pets, vacuums, kids..what can go wrong with the cable right?

    • @JasonInNewEngland
      @JasonInNewEngland 2 года назад

      I don't understand Apple's reasoning for having the power cable nondetachable but you certainly don't need to replace the entire monitor if you damage the power cable. Apple has said that they can replace it at the store for free (they have a tool that pops it out).

    • @Aaron-ni2eu
      @Aaron-ni2eu 2 года назад

      Stunning? you're a colour professional, yet you choose 8-bit dithering colour, instead of updated 10-bit displays (like apple's pro xdr for example). This monitor cannot show true blacks, does not have the ability to show HDR content, and the refresh rate at 60hz will not give you silky smooth graphics, for video, CAD, moving around photos and gaming. I love apple products and i love this I.D but professional colour monitor it is not.

    • @kevin_mitchell
      @kevin_mitchell 2 года назад +1

      I have the 27 inch iMac and the tilt adjustment is fine. The TV, and my grandson who has a monitor, are both non-height and non-tilt adjustable, and none of us have even thought about height adjustment before now, however, the non-tilt on the monitor can be annoying if my grandson wants me to look at something when I'm standing next to it - I have to crouch. In that situation, tilt would work fine, but not height-adjustment since it would be only minimal anyway. My height-adjustable chair is old and the chair slowly sinks lower, but at whatever height the chair is, I've never thought, "I wish I could adjust the height of this monitor." It doesn't really matter. Adjusting the tilt of the monitor, if required, is more than ample for me.

      That is so interesting. I have a 2015 iMac 27" and I can't justify replacing the same display that I purchased 7 years ago with a near identical display. I really like what I see there but my monitor will no longer be tied to the limitations of my computer hardware, instead it will be tied to computer hardware anyway when the next version comes with the A16 chip. A weird circle I know. There is a new monitor no better than the one released in 2015, not tied to the computer hardware but using a superseded chip that the next generation of monitor will limit your connectivity to, because it relies upon you upgrading your monitor to access all features. I will let this one play out and die.

    I was torn on whether to get the studio display but now decided.
    I'm not getting it, and that's so frustrating, but the reasons not to buy far out strip the reasons to buy! I want it because its 5k, a beautiful piece of industrial design and it's in the apple eco system. However the cost is far far too high, a 1000 would be a fair amount, the display tech is old and this matters, this monitor will NOT give you dark blacks, just about every apple product, iPhone, iPad, macbook displays will all look (and be) significantly better compared to the studio display, the mics for video are poor (i guess pointing in wrong direction), the camera has problems, you can't lift the display above a macbook pro display and little things like the power cable being fixed to the monitor. So I'm now looking at 4k Dell's, Huawei, LG's and Benq's for an option. The crazy thing is I could buy 2 monitors of any of those brands and still have change for an apple watch! I think 2 4K Huawei view mates are the best option so far. I will get a studio display when it gets upgraded, hopefully next year :) .

    I am disappointed that no one is talking about the Studio Display's ability to replace the old 27" Thunderbolt display. The reason I still use 2 - 27" Thunderbolt displays still to this day is because of its docking station ability which turns my macbook into a desktop workstation with the lid closed. In other words, with the 27" Thunderbolt display, I could connect 2 of them to my macbook by daisy chaining them together such that only 1 cable connects to the macbook. Also, it charges the macbook at the same time so I don't even need a power cable to my macbook.
    So my questions for the Studio Display are:
    1. Can I daisy chain them together? My best guess is NO, because there is only 1 thunderbolt port on them while the old 27" Thunderbolt displays had 2, one for connecting to macbook and one for receiving the content from the second monitor. Perhaps 5K + 5K is too much data for a single thunderbolt cable.
    2. Can a Studio Display charge my 16" MacBook Pro M1 Pro? My best guess is YES, because even though the 16" MacBook Pro requires 140W of power, that is with the lid open and its internal display on, but since I am working with the lid closed, the power draw should be significantly less and the 96W output by the Studio Display might be enough. The 14" MacBook Pro only requires 96W so it is a definite YES for charging that.
    3. Can my 16" MacBook Pro drive 2 Studio Displays with the lid closed? My best guess is YES, but the docs are not clear. The docs say for the M1 Pro, "Up to two external displays with up to 6K resolution at 60Hz". My problem with that statement is that it doesn't say "up to 6K EACH". EACH is important in that sentence. So is it 6K combined for both external monitors or is it EACH?

    • @Gmon750
      @Gmon750 2 года назад +1

      1. No. Primarily due to bandwidth limitations. The 5K display consumes much of the available bandwidth, unlike the old 2011 Thunderbolt 2 monitor so daisy chaining two 5K monitors is too much. Each Studio Display will require its own thunderbolt port. I know this because I own three of the 2011 monitors connected to my two iMacs. I do not daisy-chains my two monitors because high-graphic activity tends to make the end-monitor flicker. Attaching both my external monitors to a separate thunderbolt port, on a separate channel works fine.
      2. Yes. It charges your MacBook, just not as fast as the MagSafe connection.
      3. Yes. It will drive two 6K displays. EACH monitor being 6K.
      Daisy-chaining thunderbolt peripherals is still an option if you're on TB2 and TB3. The new Macs use USB4 which has Thunderbolt4 (TB3+ spec change) which in addition to daisy-chaining, it also allows Thunderbolt "hubs" with one TB port splitting into multiple TB ports.

So I will connect the MBP M1 directly to the Studio Display with Thunderbolt, then run the USB-C to HDMI from the Studio Display to the old Samsung, I'm guessing it's only at 1080p so it won't need too much bandwidth...

    Apple engineers and designers think that 27 inch still big. Steve Jobs had announced back then 30 inch 2560 x 1600 long time ago. It has to be min. 32 even bigger. Because people expect different things from Apple. There are almost same featured monitors in the market by much more cheap price. My expectation was : 32 inch / 6k / 1.000 USD. Apple really needs someone who just like Steve Jobs that much more innovative and creative than ordinary staff. On behalf of millions users there are some staff in Apple who decide and disappoint users. Actually needs a huge upgrade in Apple staff in order to start make things better ...

      That being said you could always buy it and try it. If it doesn’t work out return it!
      Cheers thanks for watching.

    • @MinimalisTech

      NOPE. I’ve tried series S/X. Switch OLED and PS5.
      Systems Simply don’t communicate with thunderbolt unfortunately. An HDMI on this monitor would’ve been amazing.

      @@MinimalisTech Yeah thats an option. I will have to stick with my current display because Im not the target audience for this. Im a small indy animator who cant afford to buy a display that cost way more than my mac mini. I really thought this display to be more affordable seeing as the base imac is around 1200
