R.I.P. Peter Tomarken
I would love to see the full version of this pilot with Peter.
This was Peter Tomarken's very first game show he hosted and Hit Man was a super nice NBC game show!
well that was short.
Rest easy Peter!
They probably had to cut down the number of hit men from 18 to 14 for time purposes.
This was such a great show. I love the music cues.
Title theme performed by Pablo Cruise, and song is "World's Away".
and thus the duo begun.
I know people who will have to be resuscitated after seeing this.
I liked Hit Man! The set was totally '80s-arcade inspired! :)
Especially Round 2!
If you'd like to be a contestant on Hit Man, FORGET IT!
Better: If you'd like to be a contestant on Hit Man, FUHGEDDABOUDDIT!
Peter and Rod more than made up for this flop big time with Press Your Luck on CBS.Funny enough,Peter Tomarken would appear on another flop called Just Men.
Hey wink you are ore of my favorite game show hosts especially in tic tac dough. Thanks for posting and just now subscribed to your RUclips page. Keep up the good work.
I can see why they put the number of hit men down to four, three, and seven by the time it became a series. It looks like it would have taken too long had it remained like this.
I am speculating that Jay W. was inspired by watching kids in the arcade and thought about those Pop Quiz's in high school. The teacher does a lecture and then pulls out a pop quiz.
Anyone notice the instrumental of "Worlds Away" by Pablo Cruise at the beginning of the clip?
Yep...for the actual series, Score Productions composed what TVTropes would refer to as a "Suspiciously Similar Theme".
0:51 - The win music just so happened to be "Rock That! (instrumental)" by Earth, Wind & Fire from their 1979 super-hit album, "I Am".
this would be a great remake and a good theme show for Anime.
Peter had much better luck on Press Your Luck(1983-1986).
Both hit man and the show that came after it (dream house) faced up against TPIR's second half hour.
A grand prize of $10,000 on a pedestrian quiz show? Sounds like a modern day GSN original!
i did say there was a pilot? and there it is!
How about High Rollers with Alex Trebek in the event of the jeopardy host whose been battle in the last few months, stage four cancer. followed by The Hollywood Squares with Peter Marshall in that 67' and 1973 set.
Thanks Wink! It's nice to see some rare stuff from the collections and vaults. Keep it up.
Triple Crown board reset music cue - "Genius of Love" by Tom Tom Club.
+Greg Baker Sorry, but it doesn't sound ANYTHING like that song.
@@VahanNisanian Indeed it is, listen to the song toward the end. It's sped up a bit though.
Right before he did Press Your Luck.
Do you have the full pilot? And do you also have a clean, studio master copy of the Press Your Luck pilot?
I have a copy of the pilot, but it's not in great shape.
This game show should have used the eggcrate number display for both the Triple Crown clock and the flashing $10,000 graphic!
WOW!!!!!!! i always wanted to see this
hope we see the full pilots of trivial pursuit on here
Peter has the same hairdo as Jim Perry during "Sale of the Century." They could have passed for twins.
I love five hit man
They changed it to 4, 3, and 7 in the series.
one thing that still bugs me, why is it called Hit Man and what's with the guy with spikey hair and the guy with a knight's helmet
Jake Roberts Regardless, we know where Pokémon creators came up with the idea of Togepi now.
Did a anyone noticed the theme and the bonus round cue the music was different from the show
I didn't know Peter hosted the pilot ep of Hit Man, I thought the creator Jay Wolpert did, unless there are 2 pilots.
my understanding is he did do a pilot, but chose not to host because the network told him to lose 20 pounds and wear a toupee. Beginning to think he maybe just did a run-through.
1:01 What's That Music?
But I'll Name The Music Great Chances 3
I'm pretty sure the yellow player, Skip, was on the syndicated $ale of the Century. He's not wearing glasses, but he looks identical otherwise.
wish this was actually the full pilot rather than just clips, also this seems a lot more intense and hipper (for the time) than the actual show, if they kept it like this it might have been more of a hit and lasted past the first season.
The pilot looks almost the same as the actual game show with exception for the second round. Thanks Wink!
I thought Jay Wolpert hosted the pilot for Hit Man.
This that rod Roddy voice I hear
Yes, that was the voice of the late, great Rod Roddy. This was a few months before the duo teamed up on Press Your Luck.
This show was years before me, but I like the animated characters here, especially the Triple Crown character. That looks pretty cute. The gameplay has a very interesting concept too.
Melissa looks like my old computer teacher from elementary school
Hit man?
Opening Theme: Pablo Cruise - "Worlds Away" (1978)

Part of me wonders if Melissa has seen her run for the money on here...
I love she go to triper crown
I asked about this in the WordPlay video. Just sayin' ;-)
I know James...I'm listening! Glad you all enjoyed this one! More to come, spread the word! - The Winker
