  • This student had a 4.0 and solid MCAT- but ZERO interviews. Come read his activities and personal statement with me and see why I think he didn't get in.

    Thought that I was going to need to contact you for application renovation for myself, 4.0 517 but limited narrative to show why medicine was my passion, but thankfully I did enough right in my application to get off a waitlist. Thank you Very much Dr Gray for your videos they really helped me out through this process

    He seems like a really nice guy. I think he just needs help to verbalize his intentions, passions, goals etc and give his next application more structure. Good episode, thank you for posting!

    He applied to Rush with zero volunteering. I hope he does a bit more research on schools this cycle. Best of luck to him!

    Loved the video!
    As an aside, I would like to see more MD-PhD content. The MD-PhD route isn’t as common as the MD route, and so there are fewer resources to draw from when making application decisions. Preparing the MD-PhD essays for this cycles has been very tough and I’d love to see you go through some of those materials both from successful and unsuccessful applicants. Does this sound like something you might be likely to do?

      Gotta say, been a Ryan Gray fan for years now and it would be so nice to see more physician scientist content as resources are so lacking. I will say UIC MSTP has a great RUclips channel

    Hey! So you mentioned that the personal statement is not a timeline of your life. Would formatting my personal statement with the many basketball related injuries I’ve had over the course of my life and the orthopedic surgeons I’ve talked to be an acceptable way of writing my PS? Or should I go with patient interactions?

    • @Iheartrowls
      @Iheartrowls 2 года назад +9

      The purpose of the PS is to show why you want to be a doctor so anything relating to that, talk about it. This applicant had an entire paragraph about his move from Utah to Thai land, and it had nothing to do with him wanting to be a doctor.

    Would this same concept apply to post bacc programs? How long before applying should you start establishing clinical experience?

    in my opinion, it was a combination of mcat and narrative. the low science mcat is a red flag. a 4.0 in science and then 60th percentile in science doesn't line up.

    This candidate made the mistake of focusing only on his grades.
