Is there not one video of Segovia practicing? Learning a piece? screwing up 10 times before he gets it down? That would be an interesting thing to see. How he learns a piece. How he decides what fingerings to use, etc.

No, many others were better than him. Bream, or Yepes "for instance" as he would say. The old grumpy Segovia never ever has would reached the level of Bream or Yepes.
@@beerdeddi1 Dream on, Rene. Those you mentioned are very competent players, but their tone and musicality and imagination - especially in arrangements - are not like Segovia's. They could NOT turn the world's attention towards the guitar as a worthy instrument the same way Segovia did. Give credit where credit is due; they all borrowed from him, learned from him things they could never dare to imagine.
I agree with Rene. Segovia’s tone on many recordings is brittle. His interpretations were often just wrong. He played the piece the same whether it was Bach, Grieg, or Sor. I like much of what he played, but Bream was in a different league all around: better technique, much better tone, better imagination, and more musical. Segovia’s true talent was self promotion. People that claim he was the best ever simply haven’t heard anyone else. He’s not even close.
Hey man. Tried to reach you on NG but to no avail. I was hoping to use one of your songs in an upcoming animated comedy sketch I'm making. It's called A Burdensome Bossa Nova. Cheers! Chris
@@F0nkyNinja Thanks man! Much appreciated. To tell the truth I actually had the sketch ready and uploaded as a unlisted link. I was waiting for your approval to make it public. Here you go: ruclips.net/video/CHZKmeBzCVE/видео.html
It is quite wonderful that this story remains and with video what an inspiration still today. Thanks to all

This interviewer knows how to ask meaningful questions - meaningful questions about a very meaningful musician 🔥
@Benjamin Zayden is it an app?

Had no idea Segovia was a pipe smoker. And yet he lived a very long life.
Well...he didn't inhale.
