I use to be homosexual! But when I gave my life to Jesus Christ, God did a change of heart in me, and delivered me, God is extremely faithful and His word is true , His way is perfect! We just need to trust in Him and His word! Lean not on our own understanding:) :) !

We should all be grateful for faithful preachers of our Father's word, like John MacArthur! I understand, feeling convicted of sin is uncomfortable! But I would rather except the reality that WE are all wretched sinners and have fallen short of the glory of God and find salvation than to burn in hell just because we don't like being called out for our sin! Being told the truth is being loving and compassionate, not being lied to!

Gay people in general , in the Hollywood area do not in any way"hide" their flamboyant lifestyle. Have you been living under a rock ? John MacArthur has the same kind of compassion for the gay community that many of us ( Christians) have. Its not hatred at all. Only the spirit of God Gives that kind of compassion.True unconditional Love. Look up the word "Love" when ur up 2 it

Bible does not teach that homosexuals are "less than." but addresses the issue of sin. God speaks against sin, whatever form it takes. Since you claim to be a Christian, then you should already know that though God loves mankind, He does not love sin. Hate is not what God tells us to do toward others, but as a Christian we are not to compromise with sin. Read 1 Cor 6:9-10 for yourself. MacArthur is dealing honestly with a subject that many find hard to confront.

      @ColonPal 10 лет назад +2

He's about the furthest thing from God that one could ever witness. In fact, Jesus would VOMIT if he heard the preposterous things this man is saying. A person's sexual orientation doesn't qualify as the kind of thing that could be a sin or not a sin because it simply is. It is how people are born and an immutable difference and if you're going to suggest that homosexuality is sin, you are only a step away from suggesting that black skin, blue eyes, or red hair are sins. It's simply PREPOSTEROUS. Also, the Bible excuses and endorses some of the most depraved human acts including rape, torture, slavery and even the killing and burning of one's own children, so the Bible is one of the POOREST examples of morality since it represents such evil and hatred. Christianity: non-believers can see right through your nonsense and lies and we rebuke YOU!

I used to have a high amount of respect for Pastor John MacArthur. I am VERY disappointed in his lack of biblical study and research regarding the LGBT topic. He has made many comments in this video that cannot be supported by Scripture, and it is quite obvious from his comments that his Greek and Hebrew skills are extremely deficient. I have a multitude of things to say about this video but will be brief and, for now, only comment on what he has said regarding Genesis 19 (Sodom and Gomorrah).
Many people think that Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed because of homosexuality. I used to think the same thing. Then one day I decided to put aside all I had HEARD about this passage my entire life and go in with a fresh approach. I went through the entire Bible to study all the passages where Sodom is mentioned. I realized that what I was taught had been ADDED to our understanding of this passage, and it was NEVER there in the first place! See for yourself! Go to Ezek 16:49 for a list of the sins of Sodom. Homosexuality is NOT there. In fact, aside from pride/arrogance etc, we see that Sodom was also guilty of laziness, not helping the poor and needy - in other words, one big issue with Sodom was that it was not very kind to others. Even Jesus referenced Sodom when he sent his disciples out on a preaching tour to the surrounding towns and villages. Jesus told them if they were not well-received by that group of people (due to a lack of “kindness”), then that city will be considered worse than Sodom. Regarding Sodom, the theme of “lacking kindness” is from Scripture. The theme of “homosexuality” is NOT! (Thus the Church's lack of kindness to the LGBT community might be more accurate as a current day application of the "sin of Sodom"!) And by the way, even if we look at the potential same-sex activity from the Sodom account, the very most we could come up with is a condemnation of gang rape - which, when last I checked, was wrong for both gay AND straight people. So, if people have something against gay people, that’s one thing. But if they use Gen 19 in their defense, they would be guilty of adding to Scripture - which I hope we realize is NOT a good thing!

If you are truly born again and indwelt by the Holy Spirit, you would feel conviction after engaging in sin. The natural progression after salvation is one of purification and walking as Jesus did. Everybody makes mistakes, but living in rebellion for the entire life after being born again is impossible. Having homosexual temptations and living a homosexual lifestyle, or any sexual lifestyle outside of marriage, are 2 different things.

    What about verse 11??????????????????????????
Why did you leave out verse 11????
The whole point of stating verses 9 and 10 is to get to vers 11 which says:
*11 And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.*
That is the most important part!!!
Those that leave out verse 11 are leaving out what Jesus did.
Those that leave out this verse are denying Jesus and are also guilty of changing the Word of God.
All the false preachers out there intentionally leave out verse 11 as it doesnt fit in with their satanic agenda of hate.

    • @johnmark150

Homosexuality is NOT a sin. Just like heterosexuality is not a sin, but certain heterosexual acts ARE sinful, such as adultery.
Jesus Christ said that gay people (known as eunuchs at that time) were born that way from their mother's womb. Matthew 19:12. This explains why Jesus never spoke out against homosexuality, but He did speak out against adultery hundreds of times. Extremists and bigots seem to conveniently ignore this important fact. Even the Ten Commandments condemn adultery, but they do not condemn homosexuality.
Jesus shows that gay people can and will be part of His Kingdom: “I tell you, in that night there will be two men in one bed: the one will be taken and the other will be left.” (Luke 17:34) KJV
Christianity is about love and inclusion, not hatred.

An infinite punishment for a finite crime could never be fair. Neither is it fair that people who live their lives being good to others but are sufficiently intellectually honest that they fail to believe in your version of a deity due to inadequate evidence are condemned to eternal torture, especially not while those who do the most evil of things go straight to some form of paradise as long as they're "saved".

what gays and gay supporters say to defend themselves from this verse is that this verse ONLY applies ''culturally'' meaning it was only meant for people in Corinth. And they also say that ''abusers of themselves with mankind'' which comes from the Greek word "arsenokoites" does NOT mean homosexuals in consensual relationships and only applied to ''male temple prostitutes". on another note to understand the agenda to make gay normal you need to read the book "After The Ball.." Therefore, the only "Logical" approach is to deny that Hell or Heaven exist. It also means that depravity is fair game and it'd be stupid to repress the urge. 'Sides,"it makes ya feel good. It can't be wrong, and who cares if it's a Lust gone mad?"

Christianity in not a monolithic group of people with one agreed upon interpretation of doctrine that doesn’t change over time. I’m not a Christian or an atheist, but it gives me hope to see people begin to use “the God within,” to put in theist terms, or “common-sense reason and logic,” to put it in atheist terms, in order to break free from the self-imposed “belief boxes” they have allowed their minds to become encased in. Here are three highly-respected Christian voices that demonstrate where the overall Christian position on gay rights and acceptance has been headed in recent years - which is clearly supported by the polling data. And there is zero evidence that this position is reversing or even slowing down:
Carrie Underwood: “I’m in favor of acceptance. And I am a Christian person, and I do love the Lord, and I feel no matter who you are, what you believe, how you live your life, it’s not my place to judge. As a married person myself, I don’t know what it’s like to be told I can’t marry somebody I love, and want to marry. I can’t imagine how that must feel. I definitely think we should all have the right to love, and love publicly, the people that we want to love.”
President Carter: “Homosexuality was well known in the ancient world, well before Christ was born and Jesus never said a word about homosexuality. In all of his teachings about multiple things - he never said that gay people should be condemned. I personally think it is very fine for gay people to be married in civil ceremonies.”
Kristin Chenoweth: “If Jesus was to walk the Earth today . . . [he] would be horrified. Those people saying they’re doing it in the name of God? No no no no no. It is very anti-Christian of them . . . It is the antithesis of what I believe. It is the antithesis of what you should believe if you believe in Jesus. . . It’s not what he taught, it’s the opposite of what he taught.”
    Bob Dylan:
    Come mothers and fathers
    Throughout the land
    Don't criticize
    What you can't understand
    Your sons and your daughters
    Are beyond your command
    Your old road is
    Rapidly agin'
Please get out of the new one
If you can't lend a hand
For your times they are a-changin'.
    Cheers.

first I have to say I have never listened to a more accurate minister of God in my life of 68 years. I support John 98%. I was taken back by your political comments. Which I believe is not accurate. You said the Democratic Party supported homosexuality and abortion on demand. Your criticism is correct. I have the issue with you supporting Republicans. Neither party is correct according to the word of God. The Republican party have demonstrated a disdain for our first black president. They have lied repeatedly about our president and they nominated Romney to represent America, and Romney according to your own words is involved in a cult, Mormonism. The Republicans have blocked any kind of reform that will help the poor, which Jesus would have issues with that. I cannot support any political figure 100% so it is wise for me to separate my political persuasion from the Word of God. I am so disappointed because I respect you so much. Read Ruth 1:16-17 Specifically in Ruth and Naomi's case, "Where you die, I will die - there will I be buried..." Now joint burial, in those times was exclusive to lovers. Notice she did not wish to be buried with her ex-husband? According to Old Testament law, Ruth and Naomi could be married under the procedure declared in Deuteronomy 25:5 also since they were in-laws, even if the terms were in the masculine, the same could apply to them if they so wished. Nevertheless, they were wed and vowed.

Who told me what? That God doesn't hate homosexuals? Pastor Mac doesn't say that, God hates the SIN, he doesn't say God hates the homosexual. There are many who have even come to Pastor Mac's church that were former homosexuals and everyone loves them no matter what they did, like myself for example, I was an enemy of God most of my life. He hated my sin, but He saved me. I still sin, but He still loves me. So same for the homosexual, we all sin, so they are no different. Sin is sin.

  • @korthon12

it fascinating that, as the gay community attempts to justify itself, it simply proves everything Pastor MacArthur is saying about them. lol great job gay ppl, great job! do people have homosexual tendencies? sure they do, we're all broken sinful creatures, "Surely I was sinful from birth, sinful from the moment my mother conceived me" Ps. 51:5, and again, "There is no one righteous, no not one, there are none who understand, there are none who seek for God" Rom 3:10-11. understand that these are not natural tendencies, as we were not created with them, they are tendencies of the sin nature, which we have been cursed with after the Fall, see Gen. 3 homosexuals are no different then liars, idolaters, murderers, thieves, etc. to my true brothers and sisters in Christ, we can't expect the unrepentant to admit to or even understand their sin, it's beyond their comprehension. we must speak the truth to them, as Pastor Macarthur has done and pray for their lost and degenerate souls. don't give up on them though, I'm sure some will come around once the true emptiness and destitution of their lives is revealed to them.

Should we let sin pass? Calling it out is the right thing to do. All of us, believers and non-believers, are sinful, thus we deserve death. (Rom. 6:23) all people, gays included, have already been judged by the Almighty. I don't pass the judgement, I simply let it be know what coming. it's a warning meant to call attention to the sin and hopefully, cause some to turn from it. is it wrong to tell a child not to touch the stove when it's hot? no. the child doesn't understand why, may resent being told not to do something, but it's for their own good, they avoid being burned if they listen. in the same way, calling out the sin of homosexuality gives the person the warning they need to avoid eternal damnation, if they listen. I'll gladly take the scorn of most if it means a few might listen and be saved.

so you're a so called preacher right? you've clearly missed the point of Genesis 3, but that's OK, I can help you grasp it. Humanity was created perfectly, we can agree on that. then, the Fall, after which we've been cursed. I'm sure you get that. the curse touches all of our parts, emotional, spiritual, and physical. for all your knowledge, you can't seem to truly grasp what that means.
so let's put it all together. 1) we're all cursed with sin 2) sin touches everything from our spirits to our bodies 3) homosexuality is sinful, (reread Leviticus and Deuteronomy if you're having trouble with this part) thus 4) men will desire men and women women because it is sinful. is it natural? sure is, because now, after the Fall, our natural state is sinful, not perfected.
so your claim that "it's biology, so it can't be wrong" is a sham. it's also biology for a pedophile to desire children, a cleptomaniac to steal compulsively, a psychotic to kill. they can't help what they feel, the sin is hardwired into them, yet I'm sure you'd have no trouble whatsoever condemning at least one of those groups. thus your hypocrisy shows itself for what it is. because homosexuality is "acceptable" you defend it, the others are not, so you don't. and that with a shoddy grasp of what Scripture really teaches. You are a wolf in sheep's clothing, but there is hope even for such a one as you, that's the beauty of the Cross.

    • @korthon12
      @korthon12 9 лет назад

so in place of dealing with the arguments I presented, in its simplest form, you resort to back lashing with what? more nonsense. but please, let me help enlighten you some more. like the Scripture clearly demonstrates, all men and women are now cursed after the Fall which manifests itself mentally, spiritually, and PHYSICALLY. this includes things like 1) deformities as you listed 2) genetic defects i.e. sickle cell anemia, diabetes etc. 3) desires of the flesh contrary to what was ordained at the beginning. all of us are guilty, from the youngest to the oldest.
When a man desires another man, or woman a woman, it's sin, pure and simple. as I said before, it's hardwired in. you quote me chapter and verse where God says, "and choose for yourself whom you will lie with, it's all the same to Me", show me, chapter and verse, where God says "Here are My commands, they apply to all, except for thus and such a group". you can't. why? they don't exist. "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.." did Jesus, when He forgave, every say," you are forgiven, go now and sin some more" or "go now and continue to do what you were doing"? no, He said "I forgive you, go now and sin NO more", and that happened in every single instance, every one without exception.
do I need to draw out the conclusion for you? clearly, there's sinful and non-sinful behavior. clearly, homosexuality is among the sinful, and just as clearly, there are no exceptions to the rule. sin is sin, either your wheat or chaff, you can be saved through faith alone in Christ alone, or you can burn. homosexuals live in sin, and will burn, period. just like the liars, the cheaters, adulterers, blasphemers, and false teachers, anyone not saved by by grace through faith in the Lord.
as to those born with both sexes, who can say. it really doesn't matter. if they have faith, then they'll be guided to what's appropriate for them by the Spirit. if they don't, they'll burn with the rest, regardless of how they choose to live. this type of condition isn't the norm, however, it's the exception.
as for you, false teacher, get your head right. your words are honeyed to be sure, certainly what people want to hear, for sure, but full of folly and untruth. " In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I give you this charge: 2 Preach the word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage-with great patience and careful instruction. 3 For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. 4 They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths." 2Timothy 4: 1-4 since you cannot abide sound teaching, there is only one conclusion. turn from the myths you vomit back to truth. we shouldn't cast our pearls before swine, but I do this in the hopes you might be saved. as much as I hate what you represent, a perversion of God's Word, I will pray for you.

Listening to John MacArthur on issues pertaining to homosexuality, is a COMPLETE departure from what all credible medical and mental health foundations say on these issues. It is a valid and normal sexual orientation in a minority of individuals, and shouldn't be changed (dangerous to try). He is completely off his bird cage, and doesn't have an educational background to address these things AT ALL.

  • @davidkennedy6251

Hello Pastor John. You say - with commendable honesty - in this video that homosexual intimacy is a sin you cannot understand. Let me try to help, from my experience.
When you are born and when you are a child, you are sexually innocent. Let us give thanks to God that children are innocent in this way and do all we can to avoid any sexualisation of childhood.
Then, during puberty, a person becomes aware that other people are attractive and that a sexual response is awakened in him or her. Body changes and hormonal development makes this response possible. For the vast majority of people, these attractions are to the opposite sex. In no way are these attractions consciously willed and chosen. Indeed, initially, they are often a cause for embarrassment and bewilderment. For a minority of people, these signals may be mixed or they may initially be directed towards the same sex but change in due course to become directed to the opposite sex. For a smaller minority, these feelings are directed towards those of the same gender. There is no opposite sex attraction, only attraction to the same sex. Sexual arousal can take place fully only with the same sex. That latter experience is what happened to me. I am a very similar man to any other man except that I am attracted to other men.
Interestingly, recent science seems to be showing that at least 30 or 40% - and perhaps far more - is down to genetics. The remainder is down to experiences in the first few years of life. Sexual orientation is very fundamental and is extremely resistant to change. 'We all have a particular sexual inclination' (John Stott, New Issues Facing Christians Today) It is the hand one is dealt in life.
Sorry but I just heard your statistics on life expectancy. I could not decide whether to laugh or cry your figures are so ludicrous. 39? the average age a gay man lives to? really, Pastor? That is not credible. I have had homosexual relationships for a significant part of my life (around 15 to 20 years) and I am 47. The fact I neither smoke nor drink and I take reasonable care to exercise are far more relevant to my life expectancy than is my homosexual orientation. We Christians do ourselves no favours by using figures like that. It is sad, to be honest.
Blessings to us all. David from the UK.

Hello Rebecca. Thanks for your posting. You certainly believe in directness, I see.
I have been a Christian for 25 years so I am defiantly on God's side, sister. I have known only ever same sex attraction and that has caused me huge pain. I have been celibate for the past sex months but I hate the loneliness, sadness, isolation, frustration it brings.
I have looked at my posting again and I think you are right to be critical. My tone is very negative. Please forgive me for that - I was very depressed at the time and not in a good place generally. I should have been balanced and stressed where I agree with Pastor John. I tried to explain my experience and I am sorry if that offended you. The figures on life expectancy are bogus. I have a First Class Honours degree in Social Sciences and studies like the ones Pastor John is using are cited to show how flawed research can sometimes be.

I would like to thank all that have posted on this site. You have confirmed once again that we are in the last days! Christ himself nails down the time line for the last days with his parable of the Fig Tree. Luke 21;29-33. Most will miss this, such is the nature of the parables of Christ. "Behold the Fig Trees and all the Trees" When our Lord does anything with a fig tree he is referencing ISRAEL. All the trees is referencing the plethora of countries that came into being the same time as Israel 1948-1949.We really can't say that Israel was putting forth leaf in May 1948 because the world thought they were D.O.A.This was due to the vast armies of Islam poised to destroy them. Israel started putting forth leaf in March of 1949 when the fig tree literally does put forth leaf in the new state of Israel. Soo the last generation that will not pass away till all be fulfilled started in March 1949.I believe that in this day and age a generation is 80 years so all must be fulfilled by March of 2030. God Bless!

See I've heard MacArthur give this sermon before on homosexuality, and he brought it up in clearer terms "John MacArthur decried the smear that homosexual advocates were trying to aim at Paul, I've seen it on the Internet some liberal preacher (John Spong) has said that Paul was maybe gay, NOT MacArthur, MacArthur is upset with the suggestion.

The one thing I am concerned about for you is thinking that any sexual contact outside the marriage bed (between one man and one woman) is OK. It's not. That's not judging you. Homosexuality is not a sin.
God does not ask us to choose between compassion and faith in the Bible.
Christians are increasingly divided over the issue of the acceptance and inclusion of gay persons into the church. The debate itself is usually framed as essentially pitting the Bible, on one hand, against compassion and social justice on the other. Our Christian hearts, runs the (usually impassioned) argument, compel us to grant full moral and legal equality to gay and lesbian people; our Christian faith, comes the (usually impassioned) rebuttal, compels us to cleave, above all, to the word of God.
Compassion for others is the fundamental cornerstone of Christian ethics; the Bible is the bedrock of the Christian faith. What Christian can possibly choose between the two?
The answer is that no Christian is called upon to make that choice. The text of the Bible on one hand, and full equality for gay and lesbian people on the other, is a false dichotomy. God would not ask or expect Christians to ever choose between their heart and their faith.
Reconciling the Bible with unqualified acceptance and equality for LGBT people does not necessitate discounting, recasting, deconstructing or reinterpreting the Bible. All it takes is reading those passages of the Bible wherein homosexuality is mentioned with the same care we would any other passage of the book.
We can trust God; we can trust that God is loving.
And we can trust that we can -- and that we certainly should -- take God, in this matter, as in all things, at his Word.
If there is no clearly stated directive in the Bible to marginalize and ostracize gay people, then Christians continuing to do so is morally indefensible, and must cease.
What cannot be denied is that Christians have caused a great deal of pain and suffering to gay persons, by:
    Banning their participation in the church, thus depriving them of the comforts and spiritual fruits of the church;
    Banning their participation in the sacrament of marriage, thus depriving them of the comforts and spiritual fruits of marriage;
Damaging the bonds between gays and their straight family members, thus weakening the comforts and spiritual fruits of family life for both gays and their families; and
Using their position within society as spokespersons for God to proclaim that all homosexual relations are disdained by God, thus knowingly contributing to the cruel persecution of a minority population.
Christians do not deny that they have done these things. However, they contend that they have no choicebut to do these things, based on what they say is a clear directive about homosexuals delivered to them by God through the Holy Bible. They say that the Bible defines all homosexual acts as sinful, instructs them to exclude from full participation in the church all non-repentant sinners (including gay people), and morally calls upon them to publicly (or at least resolutely) denounce homosexual acts.
Without an explicit directive from God to exclude and condemn homosexuals, the Christian community's treatment of gay persons is in clear violation of what Jesus and the New Testament writers pointedly identified as the most important commandment from God: to love one's neighbor as one's self.
The gay community has cried out for justice to Christians, who have a biblically mandated obligation to be just. Because the mistreatment of gay persons by Christians is so severe, the directive from God to marginalize and ostracize gay people must be clear and explicit in the Bible. If there is no such clearly stated directive, then the continued Christian mistreatment of gay and lesbian people is morally indefensible, and must cease.
Heterosexual Christians are being unbiblical by using the clobber passages as justification for applying absolute standards of morality to homosexual "sins" that they themselves are not tempted to commit, while at the same time accepting for themselves a standard of relative morality for those sins listed in the clobber passages that they do routinely commit.
Homosexuality is briefly mentioned in only six or seven of the Bible's 31,173 verses. (The verses wherein homosexuality is mentioned are commonly known as the "clobber passages," since they are typically used by Christians to "clobber" LGBT people.) The fact that homosexuality is so rarely mentioned in the Bible should be an indication to us of the degree of importance ascribed it by the authors of the Bible.
While the Bible is nearly silent on homosexuality, a great deal of its content is devoted to how a Christian should behave. All throughout it, the Bible insists on fairness, equity, love and the rejection of legalism over compassion. If heterosexual Christians are obligated to look to the Bible to determine the sinfulness of homosexual acts, how much greater is their obligation to look to the Bible to determine the sinfulness of their behavior toward gay persons, especially in light of the gay community's call to them for justice?
Some Bible passages pertinent to this concern are:
Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her. --John 8:7
Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for whoever loves others has fulfilled the law. The commandments, "You shall not commit adultery," "You shall not murder," "You shall not steal," "You shall not covet," and whatever other command there may be, are summed up in this one command: "Love your neighbor as yourself." Love does no harm to a neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law. --Romans 13:8-10
Here there is no Gentile or Jew, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave or free, but Christ is all, and is in all. Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. --Colossians 3:11-13
Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You give a tenth of your spices -- mint, dill and cumin. But you have neglected the more important matters of the law -- justice, mercy and faithfulness. You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former. You blind guides! You strain out a gnat but swallow a camel. --Matthew 23:22-24
A fundamental tenant of Christianity is that we are all born sinners, that we have no choice but to exist in relationship to our sinful natures. And so Christians accept as inevitable that any given Christian will, for instance, on occasion drink too much, lust or tell a lie.
As we've seen, in the clobber passages Paul also condemns, along with homosexuality, those three specific sins. But Christians don't think that they are expected to never commit any degree of those sins. They understand that circumstances and normal human weaknesses must be taken into account before condemning any transgression. We all readily understand and accept the moral distinction between drinking socially and being a drunk; between a lustful thought and committing adultery; between telling a flattering white lie and chronically lying.
Even a sin as heinous as murder we do not judge without first taking into account the context in which it occurred. Self-defense, protection of the innocent, during a war -- we recognize that there are times when even taking the life of another is not only not a sin, but a morally justified, and even heroic act.
Christians evaluate the degree of sin, or even whether or not a real sin has occurred, by looking at both the harm caused by the sin, and the intent of the sin's perpetrator.
They do, that is, for all sins except homosexuality.
Virtually any degree of homosexual "transgression" gets treated by Christians as an absolute sin deserving absolute punishment. Christians draw no moral distinction between the homosexual gang rape in the story of Sodom and Gomorrah, the orgies to which Paul refers in his letter to the Romans, the wild sexual abandon Paul addresses in 1 Corinthians, and consensual homosexual sex between loving and committed homosexual partners.
Heterosexual Christians are being unfair and hypocritical by using the clobber passages as justification for applying absolute standards of morality (and an absolute penalty) to homosexual "sins" that they themselves are never tempted to commit, while at the same time accepting for themselves a standard of relative morality (and applying no real penalty) for those sins listed in the clobber passages that they doroutinely commit.
As there is no demonstrable harm arising from sex within a committed homosexual relationship, and thereis significant demonstrable harm arising from discrimination and condemnation against gay persons, what possible biblical basis can there be for not recognizing the vast moral differential between sex acts done within the context of a loving committed relationship, and sex acts of any other sort?
Here are a few Bible passages that any Christian should bear in mind whenever he or she is called upon (or at least emotionally compelled) to render a moral judgment:
Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. --Matthew 7:1
Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, 'Brother, let me take the speck out of your eye,' when you yourself fail to see the plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye. --Luke 6:41-43
Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You give a tenth of your spices--mint, dill and cumin. But you have neglected the more important matters of the law--justice, mercy and faithfulness. You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former. You blind guides! You strain out a gnat but swallow a camel." --Matthew 23:22-24
The Bible isn't a rulebook, and Christians cannot lift out of its context any passage from the Bible, and still hope to gain a clear understanding of that passage.
It is important to understand that even the most fundamentalist Christian sects do not take the Bible wholly literally. The New Testament is 2,000 years old. Its cultural contexts, along with the translation at hand, is always taken into consideration by any Christian serious about understanding this vast and complex work.
Further, the Bible is not a contract, or a set of instructions, with each passage spelling out something clear and specific. It is not a rulebook for being Christian. It is instead a widely varying collection of poetry, history, proverbs, moral directives, parables, letters and wondrous visions. We would be foolish to fail to understand that not everything in the Bible is a commandment, and that Christians cannot take any small section of the Bible out of its own context, and still hope to gain a clear understanding of its meaning.
Using the four Old Testament passages to condemn all homosexual acts is not in keeping with any directive from God, nor with the practices of contemporary Christians.
The Bible's first four mentions of homosexuality occur in the Old Testament.
While continuing to be spiritually inspired and influenced by the Old Testament, Christians were specifically instructed by Paul not to follow the law of the Old Testament, in such passages as:
The former regulation is set aside because it was weak and useless (for the law made nothing perfect), and a better hope is introduced, by which we draw near to God. --Hebrews 7:18-19
Before the coming of this faith, we were held in custody under the law, locked up until the faith that was to come would be revealed. So the law was our guardian until Christ came that we might be justified by faith. Now that this faith has come, we are no longer under a guardian. -- Galatians 3:23-25
So, my brothers and sisters, you also died to the law through the body of Christ, that you might belong to another... --Romans 7:4
For sin shall no longer be your master, because you are not under the law, but under grace. -- Romans 6:14
In practice, Christians do not follow the dictates of the Old Testament. If they did, polygamy would be legal, and forbidden would be things like tattoos, wearing mixed fabrics, eating pork and seeding lawns with a variety of grasses -- and the Christian day of worship would be Saturday, not Sunday. And if the parents of a new bride could not, upon her husband's request, prove that she's a virgin, then that bride would have to be stoned to death. And Christians would have to stone to death any other Christian guilty of adultery.
Clearly, we no longer follow any such laws.
Therefore, the use of the four Old Testament passages to condemn all homosexual acts is in keeping with neither any directive from God, nor with the practices of contemporary Christians.
In the clobber passages Paul condemns the coercive, excessive and predatory same-sex sexual activity practiced by the Romans -- and would have condemned the same acts had they been heterosexual in nature.
Because Christians' understanding and practice of New Testament prescriptions naturally and inevitably evolve along with the society and culture of which they are a part, at any given time in history Christians have always selectively followed dictates of the New Testament. This is why Christian women no longer feel morally constrained to follow Paul's directives to leave their hair uncut, to keep their heads covered in church, or to always remain quiet in church. It's also why the Bible is no longer used to justify the cruel institution of slavery, or to deny women the right to vote.
Just as those thoughts and understandings of the New Testament changed and grew, so today is it becoming increasingly clear to Christians that the three New Testament clobber passages (each of which was written by Paul in letters to or about nascent distant churches), when understood in their historical context, do not constitute a directive from God against LGBT people today.
Here are the three mentions of homosexuality in the New Testament:
Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. --1 Corinthians 6:9-10
We also know that the law is made not for the righteous but for lawbreakers and rebels, the ungodly and sinful, the unholy and irreligious, for those who kill their fathers or mothers, for murderers, for the sexually immoral, for those practicing homosexuality, for slave traders and liars and perjurers -- and for whatever else is contrary to the sound doctrine. --1 Timothy 1:9-10:
Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error. --Romans 1:26-27
In the times during which the New Testament was written, the Roman conquerors of the region frequently and openly engaged in homosexual acts between older men and boys, and between men and their male slaves. These acts of non-consensual sex were considered normal and socially acceptable. They were, however, morally repulsive to Paul, as today they would be to everyone, gay and straight.
The universally acknowledged authoritative reference on matters of antiquity is the Oxford Classical Dictionary. Here is what the OCD (third edition revised, 2003) says in its section about homosexuality as practiced in the time of Paul:
"...the sexual penetration of male prostitutes or slaves by conventionally masculine elite men, who might purchase slaves expressly for that purpose, was not considered morally problematic."
This is the societal context in which Paul wrote of homosexual acts, and it is this context that Christians are obliged to bring to their understanding and interpretation of the three clobber passages. Paul certainly condemned the same-sex sexual activity he saw around him. It was coercive; it was without constraint; it involved older men and boys. As a moral man, Paul was revolted by these acts -- as, certainly, he would have been by the same acts had they been heterosexual in nature.
The Bible's clobber passages were written about same-sex acts between heterosexualpersons, and do not address the subject of homosexual acts between a committed gay couple, because the concept of a person being a homosexual did not exist at the time the Bible was written.
It is also critical to our reading of the New Testament's three clobber passages to understand that while of course Paul knew about sex acts that took place between persons of the same gender, he had no concept whatsoever of homosexual persons. Virtually no one in Paul's time was "out"; no one lived, or in any way publicly self-identified, as a homosexual. Paul had no concept of an entire population of people who, as a fundamental, unalterable condition of their existence, were sexually attracted to persons of the same gender, and not sexually attracted to persons of the opposite gender.
Here is the opening of the OCD's article on homosexuality:
"No Greek or Latin word corresponds to the modern term 'homosexuality,' and ancient Mediterranean society did not in practice treat homosexuality as a socially operating category of personal or public life. Sexual relations between persons of the same sex certainly did occur (they are widely attested in ancient sources), but they were not systematically distinguished or conceptualized as such, much less were they thought to represent a single, homogeneous phenomenon in contradistinction to sexual relations between persons of different sexes. ... The application of 'homosexuality' (and 'heterosexuality') in a substantive or normative sense to sexual expression in classical antiquity is not advised."
We can be confident that Paul was not writing to, or about, gay people, because he simply could not have been, any more than he could have written about smart phones or iPads. We do not know what Paul might write or say today about gay people. All we know is that in the New Testament he wrote about promiscuous, predatory, non-consensual same-sex acts between heterosexuals.
If we are to rely on the Bible, then we must take its text as it is. It does condemn homosexual (and heterosexual) sex that is excessive, exploitive and outside of marriage. It does not, however, address the state of homosexuality itself -- much less the subject of homosexual acts between a married gay couple. Christians therefore have no Bible-based moral justification for themselves condemning such acts.
Because there was no concept of gay marriage when the Bible was written, the Bible does not, and could not, address the sinfulness of homosexual acts done within the context of gay marriage.
The Bible routinely, clearly and strongly classifies all sex acts outside of the bonds of marriage as sinful. But, because there was no concept of gay people when the Bible was written, the Bible does not, and could not, address the sinfulness of homosexual acts done within the context of marriage. Christians therefore have no biblical basis for themselves condemning such acts.
In fact, by denying marriage equality to gay people, Christians are compelling gay couples to sin, because their intimacy must happen outside of marriage, and is therefore, by biblical definition, sinful.
Being personally repelled by homosexual sex doesn't make homosexual sex a sin.
In addition to the Bible, many Christians cite as additional evidence of the inherent sinfulness of homosexual acts their raw emotional response to such acts. It is understandable that many straight people find homosexual sex repugnant (just as many gay people find heterosexual sex repugnant). It is normal for any one of us to be viscerally repelled by the idea of sex between, or with, people for whom we personally have no sexual attraction. Young people, for example, are often disgusted by the thought of senior citizens having sex. And who isn't repulsed by the idea of their parents having sex? (When, rationally speaking, we should rejoice in the fact that they did!) But it is much too easy for any person to mistake their instinctive reaction against something as a moral reaction to that thing. Outrage isn't always moral outrage, though the two usually feel the same.
It may feel to a straight Christian that their instinctive negative reaction to homosexual sex arises out of the Bible. But all of us necessarily view the Bible through the lens of our own experiences and prejudices, and we must be very careful to ensure that lens does not distort our vision or understanding of God's sacrosanct word.
"The greatest of these is love."
The overriding message of Jesus was love. Jesus modeled love; Jesus preached love; Jesus was love. Christians desiring to do and live the will of Jesus are morally obliged to always err on the side of love. Taken altogether, the evidence -- the social context in which the Bible was written, the lack of the very concept of gay people in Paul's time, the inability of gay people to marry, the inequity between how the clobber passages are applied between a majority and a minority population, the injustice of the punishment for a state of being over which one has no choice being exclusion from God's church on earth and human love generally -- shows that choosing to condemn and exclude gay people based on the Bible is the morally incorrect choice. That evidence should instead lead Christians to the most obvious, and most Christian of all positions, stated so beautifully by Paul himself in 1 Corinthians 13:
Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part, but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears. When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me. For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known. And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

***** you do not have to read all, thats your choice. The fist line say a lot.
God does not ask us to choose between compassion and faith in the Bible.
Without an explicit directive from God to exclude and condemn homosexuals, the Christian community's treatment of gay persons is in clear violation of what Jesus and the New Testament writers pointedly identified as the most important commandment from God: to love one's neighbor as one's self.
Jesus modeled love; Jesus preached love; Jesus was love.
Bottom line - homosexuality is not in the Blbe. Homosexuasl just like heterosexuals fall in love; there is no difference except who they fall in love with; both are natural as God intended.
God Bless you, and may you have a wonderful Christmas season.

Jesus did not say 1 word about homosexuality. Paul was not speaking / writing about homosexuality in his letters.
You say homosexuality has no place in Christianity - maybe yours. I am a member of a Church (there are many) that know homosexuality is not a sin, its not a choice, its how God made some people. I am also married -Iowa- to my same sex partner of 18+ years. We were married in front of God in a Christian Church in Davenport; and still very much in love. So I don't know what sect of Christianity you refer to, not mine.
Homosexuality is not a sin. Read in context so you will obvious see homosexuality is not a sin.

dmana3172 You don't need to be sorry, but you are flat out wrong. Homosexuality is not in the Bible. I would suggest you get an older version of the Bibles you list and see the changes that would made in about 1948.
None of the verse listed disproves my statement. Furthermore, it does not make sin ok nor does it make homosexuality a sin. You should have kept reading in Romans and eventually you would have gotten to Romans 6:14 "For sin shall no longer be your master, because you are not under the law, but under grace." When it was our MASTER, it sent us to hell because we had no way of redemption. Now we have one. If you would have kept reading, you would have come upon Romans 8:1-2 "Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, 2 because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you[a] free from the law of sin and death." We no longer go to hell just because we sin, and homosexuality is not a sin anyway.
Paul in his letters used the word 'Arsenokoitei' it is not the Greek word for homosexual. If Paul wanted to say homosexual he would have used a Greek word that started with a "P", but Paul used Arsenokoitei a word that did not exist until Paul coined it. Fact is scholars do not know the exact meaning of the word. Most agree however it means customers of effeminate call boys. The meaning is no ware near homosexual.
It wasn't until 1948 for the 1st time in history a person translating that Greek word Arsenokoitei decided it meant homosexaul. Fact is there is no such word in the Greek or Hebrew.
You do know Paul's writing were used to support slaver, segregation and apartheid? Paul was also used to oppress women and limit their roles at home, church, and in society. So it seems it happens again here.
A Greek word that has no clear definition is being used to reflect society's prejudice and condemn God's gay kids. Begs the question, after they are done with the homosexuals who will be next?
To anyone reading this - Homosexuality is not a sin. While some say it is, know they are flat out wrong. If you are called names, fag, homo, queer, ferry, dis ordered, an abomination, or worse; they are only words from people who call themselves Christians who are not Christ like. There is help call the Trevor Project hot line - no judgement, no religious crap, just help.
866-488-7386 - or online at The Trevor Project. There are there to help - 24x7 everyday.
Know God created you as God wants you to be. You do not have to change who God created, no matter what some say. Homosexuality is not a sin. Someday, like the burning of witches; it will stop. Some are in ignorance, hold your head high be proud of you, God would want you to be, God created you who you are. God Bless.

chicraig1 John 1:8 - "If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us."
But everyone comes to into this world under aware and confused with there sexuality. I know because everyone is young at one point and gets curious and then wants to explore into uncharted territory. Like a child exploring a gun. But the truth is sex is a gift not just to procreate but to make passionate, exciting, fun, and sweet love to your spouse through covenant of marriage. But I'm not going to be a hypocrite and say I never had sex before marriage or had gay thoughts once, or hated someone, or watched porn, Lied, cheated, or stolen because I have and I struggled and I have fallen. But through it all God will always love me with an everlasting grace. For he loves us not for what you or I have done or what you or I will become- For you. A love that is more bigger then any earthly father or mother could ever give.
So understand I don't know any other type of sex that can be committed between two males except oral sex. The bible says homosexuality is a sin and which it doesn't mean God doesn't love them because we are ALL sinners; we just each pick a different sin. But once you RECOGNIZE your sin, the Bible gives you clear instruction to run from it. God did not create Adam and Andy, He created Adam and Eve, to go out and procreate. I don't know many male couples or female couples who could procreate without artificial means, which is NOT how God intended. So you can play with words and meanings any way you want to try and legitimize your sin, but the bottom line is that if homosexuality was the intended way for procreation then ALL animals would be able to procreate with people, at least partially, and there would be a way to continue the species with homosexuality. But it doesn't and it isn't and therefore, whether you choose to remain in the homosexual lifestyle or flee from it, God still loves you and wants you to have a personal relationship with Him. If two men believe can have a satisfying love relationship, then there is no reason why those same man can not repent and develop a special and satisfying relationship with a woman. First no your sin and come to repents and follow Jesus!

"Orientation" does not mean truth. "Orientation" means something is in relative position to an absolute. So is homosexuality a sexual orientation - yes, agreed. Is it absolute? No. In a manner of speaking it is sexual disorientation because God condemns homosexuality in the Bible and anything contradicting God is wrong. We shouldn't hate the homosexual but love them and encourage them to repent and fight their sin.

truth is, bible truth anyways. is that we all sin and cannot stop. if we stop one sin, we find another. any man who says he has no sin does not know God. 1 john. and they call God a liar. Jesus grace is sufficient for ALL!!!!!! so no more fear which is not from God. the kingdom of God is within you. what the verse means hes preaching is they will have no inner peace. and we will still all reap what we sow. if you don't believe me, read your bible. it really is good news for ALL!!!!!!!

chicraig1 is an example of what happens when God gives someone over to a reprobate mind, and strong delusion to believe the lie they have chosen by rejecting the truth.

Hi there! Can you please give me a couple of those "contradictions" you are talking about in the Bible? I'd love to address them. I am a Christian, I study the Bible and I don't think you've read it cover to cover or have read it in context. You've taken a passage out of context in Hosea and then say that there's no possibility of historical truth and that the Bible has COUNTLESS CONTRADICTIONS.....If you ccould give me those countless contradictions, or even 25 of them, I'll address them.

Arsenokoitai, was indeed a rare word. Greek translation of the Leviticus passages condemns a man (arseno) lying with (koitai) another man (arseno), Arsenokoitai is a neologism, or a new word, Arsenokoitai, or “man-lier”.

God promised the Israelites his protection and blessings if they served him faithfully 2 Chronicles 7:13-14. The Israelites however lived in a barbaric period where rampaging armies carried out such atrocities as cited in Hosea 13:16. The Lord merely withdrew his protection when the Iraelites broke the covenant, the prophecies depicted would therefore follow on as a result of the Lord's withdrawal. He has also made it clear full repentance would restore favour to him Isaiah 43:25.

Luke, you are right about this. Christians should be loving, concerning homosexuality. You are a homosexuaI and I love you. If you saw me post something about say....me telling a lie....wouldn't you say "Lauren, lying is a sin according to the Bible, you should not do that." You would be perfectly correct in calling out a sister or brother if you see they are in sin. We've had a lot of dialogue. I just want you to know I love you and I want to see you in Heaven. God bless you.

    וְאֶ֨ת־ זָכָ֔ר לֹ֥א תִשְׁכַּ֖ב מִשְׁכְּבֵ֣י אִשָּׁ֑ה תֹּועֵבָ֖ה הִֽוא׃ or in English -> "You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination." (Leviticus 18:22)
or "If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they shall surely be put to death; their blood is upon them" (Leviticus 20:13)
    or Romans 1:27 ?
The great thing about the Bible is you can still read the Hebrew and Greek and learn that way!

You said you would AVOID reverend MacArthurs sermons, I was just trying to let you know that this ISN'T what John MacArthur was saying.
I am sorry for being as you say"arrogant" but you were making a wrong assumption here. I tried to send you a message but you have contact lock. I spent an hour tying to explain that. I did so so that you would not have a wrong view of John MacArthurs views.

There are hopeless and hungry becuase the greed of man instead of shareing their wealth and riches with the poor are obssessed with greed and only think about themselves and in furthering theirown lives. Jesus gave to the widowed and the poor of wealth as well as the poor in spirit.

There is one in every crowd, if anyone ever starts off with translating the "original Greek", or attempting to use a word such as "exegesis" where "translation" is more fitting, they have an agenda, and are lying.
The word "homosexual" was not coined until the 1800's so to convey the idea in Greek writers had to use means within their language structure.

Luke, how do you know that I wasn't involoved in homosexuality? You'd be surprised my dear of the things I did before God saved me, so I know a lot more than you think about homosexuality. I won't discuss the particulars in public, but I wasn't pure when I was younger. I was a terrible, terrible sinner and my sex life was an abomination to God. So I had to repent and knock it off. I still sin, but not sexually.

People are coming to this video, watching it and saying there are countless contradictions in the Bible.Really? Countless? I'd love to take on, say, 50 of those "countless contradictions" -- if you think you can find them, because I think I can give an answer and explanation to those "countless" contradictions. Unless you told a little white lie and haven't even studied the Infallable Word of God...but He will forgive you if you repent! I'll look forward to those "countless" contradictions.
