Absolutely LOVING this series! This video in particular was a bit basic for me so can't wait for more advanced stuff. Love the extremely concise way you are relaying this information. Just splendid!
Great video. Great tips and great style in conveying your info! Kept it fun and very educational. I got to light a scene for a film starring Casper Van Dien a while back. I've done grip work in film, but video production and directing for tv and video. However I'm always learning more and more about lighting. Thanks for giving me just a little more info.
Dude thank you for this video! I'm just diving into lighting and this is a great intro! Definitely appreciated seeing the concepts in action when you showed movies demonstrating tungsten and daylight. Just subscribed! Thanks!
I found this video because I was debating on investing in LED lights vs Tungsten lights (for photo though). You can dial the temperature of LED lights, but you cannot with lights specific for Tungsten. I think I'll get the LED lights for versatility... and on top of that, I'd be able to add gel filters for nice lighting effects when I need them (you cant really add gel to tungsten since they get so hot).
Kelvin is not specifically a measurement of color temperature. It is a thermo scale just like Fahrenheit or celsius. What it refers to in the case of color temp is the color white that molten iron takes on at that particular temp measured in Kelvin. Molten iron at 3200 Kelvin is "white hot" at the same color as tungsten, which is a bit orange. 5600 Kelvin is hotter...and therefore bluer, akin to daylight. If you look at a flame on a gas stove, you will see that the bottom or the hottest part is white, next blue, then yellow, then orange.....this corresponds to the temp of each part of the flame.
Dude. Do you remember Me meet Me film that you did. You were so different back there hahaha. I'm glad to see you took a HUGE step foward. It's very motivational as well. Nice work, really.
+Socks & Sandals Productions Same here, that is why I'm focusing on Lighting for this month. There will probably be more lighting series coming up on this channel since its one of the key things to achieving cinematic images.
Great Tut! I've become great at lighting in cinematic ways and I use it in my photography concepts, pics look like a still shot straight out of a movie. I see you use Roto Neo Lights... Dope
What was the white balance on the camera set to when you were mixing the blue and the orange on the girl? I know you had tungsten on the right and daylight on the left, but what does the camera need to be set to in order to accompany both color temperatures?
What is the name of the lighting equipment you are using for examples? I would like to know them to know which one suits me better than I need. A greeting. Thank you very much.
What is your personal opinion about the GoPro camera as a alternative for dslr cameras (if we're talking about the light quality and filming in daylight or indoor well lightened space)?
I have a question about lighting, specially when filming, I have this problem with lights twinkling, as a tv or a led lamp just like the way it twinkles on 1:01 I know it's almost unnoticable but it bothers me, I know it has to do something with frame rating, is there a way to avoid it in case I want to use leds instead of hallogen lamps? does it happen if I shot super 8 film at 24fps with leds too? Anyone?
hey man i'm new to your channel and i already love it subbed it..now i have a request if u have time can u look into the spinning effect of the mask and make a tutorial?that would be soo awesome
Can anyone please assist me on a question I’ve had for a really long time? The more you increase the Kelvin degrees, the more orange the image becomes; and the more you decrease the Kelvin degrees, the more blue the image becomes is what is taught. Some instructors also give instructions to “cool” an image by reducing the kelvin degrees? If we reduce the kelvin degrees, aren’t we actually “warming up” the image. I say this because when I look at the temperature colour charts and the corresponding kelvin degrees, the lower the kelvin degrees, the warmer it is (candle/match flame or the sun) and conversely, the higher the kelvin degrees, the cooler the light source (outdoor shaded areas/partly cloudy). Thank you 🙏
Im pretty sure that on the camera it’s the opposite because it matches the image. So if you take down the kelvin on the camera, it matches itself to a warmer picture, which makes the picture cooler (to balance the lighting) Not sure thougj
+Tim7theKing I have a link for the in the description but I can't really say I recommend them for the price and size. I'll make a video on some of the LEDs I would invest in
I don't believe that I have the capability of being able to couch anything in a vernacular that's going to be understood by the people that you want me to talk to
it always blows me away with how much detail and time is put into these tutorials. I'm a branding photographer in the Chicago suburbs and if you ever need some badass photos of you, your crew or talent to use for marketing you or your company, let me know because I'd actually work with you free of charge. here's my site: www.talent-branding.com the homepage on mobile is broken but the menu (upper left) still works for getting to my work. anyways, please keep up the amazing work and I look forward to more! DS
Storaro didn't know how to white balance the camera, LOL. "Master of Color" LOL. His color choices were not entirely intentional... ruclips.net/video/ko_V6LZ-zqQ/видео.html

I am studying as a Grip and this is helpful for me as a reminder of the two basic CTs. Thank you.
Even if I already could learn these by myself, it was worth a watch. I like seeing how much effort is put into even such a simple scene as 2:36 :)
Good start. Basic stuff. Looking forward to get more into it soon! Examples are the way to go.
I really enjoyed! today i have a cameraman exam so this will help a lot for tungsten and daylight
Your explanations were simple and clear. Thanks!
I would be very happy if you were to give the lighting classes in my school instead of my current teachers.
You are awesome dude,
So simple and straightforward! Love it! Thanks!
Great video dude. Really liking the style of this series of videos

Great tuto. What's the difference between using color gel on a LED light (cheap) and investing in a variable color LED light (more expensive)
Dude thank you for this video! I'm just diving into lighting and this is a great intro! Definitely appreciated seeing the concepts in action when you showed movies demonstrating tungsten and daylight. Just subscribed! Thanks!

Or you could just cross three lights onto subject that are RGB. As they've done for decades in the industry.
