And frankly I also found him to be a bit of a jerk to Webby and the others, and yet he gets a ton of screentime when that could be devoted to more fun stuff.

Louie didn’t stop scheming as shown in Louie’s Eleven, Louie has something new like a new Louie’s Inc. as shown in the Rumble for Ragnarok, and Louie seems like grounding didn’t teach him a lesson, but tortured him and he hasn’t put his family and time and space in danger again. Sooooo………???
From what I've heard, the writers needed a foil to Louie's greedy side. In this case, what would happen if someone wasn't able to keep his urges somewhat in check like doofus here.
Say what you want about Doofus, but this was WAY uncalled for. Boyd is not their child, he is a robot, that did not exist before the party. They just used a machine to steal half of their real son's money and are now probably revenge abusing him.
So far the only thing we've seen them do is make him be a Junior Woodchuck and not let him destroy property. And to be honest, in most cases, the money would have been in a trust fund until he was an adult or would have gone to them anyway as he was too young for it. And Doofus abused the hell out of them and everyone around him.
