Well the way I personally feel about hockey players and knowing we have a lot in common gets proved here. They're very different from other athletes and I know I may come under fire for this, but they are just better, Self-deprecating, humorous, brotherly, and funny. I love them.
There was ONE genuine exchange. All the rest were guys knowing they were being recorded. This is why you never heard the words: "Where's yer cack, bud?" "Vasilevski take yer cack, bud?" OR "Yagottem? Yagottem? Ya, yugottem. Fack."
Of course they know they’re being recorded-they’re mic’ed up for the game. The whole game. How can they go a whole game without having genuine exchanges with their teammates?
Question: when they're doing the bench shuffle. Can there be actual strategy with bench placement. Like do lines sit together? Or is everyman for himself to find a seat lol.
Defense at one end of the bench, forwards at the other. Lines and D pairings generally sit together for communication purposes. Unless you get benched, then you find yourself at the end of the bench regardless lol.
That's from the 2017 prospects scrimmage and one of those guys (Labanc) had played 55 games the season before so he didn't really have to fight for his spot/take the thing too seriously. The other guy was an undrafted free agent center (Jonathon Martin) who was an extremely long shot to make the team (had split the last season between the AHL and ECHL, 5 points in 26 AHL games and 4 in 7 ECHL games...since then he's scored 73 points in 226 AHL games). They didn't really have to take things super seriously. The prospects scrimmage had a roster of 44 players and Labanc's 55 NHL games played were the most of anyone there, so they had to pad it out with players who were more playing for AHL spots than NHL ones.
