  • Handheld oscilloscope and DMM combination tools merge two electronics tools into one powerful device. However, in the past James wasn’t a fan of these “scope meters.” But his mind might have changed since using this Multicomp Pro handheld oscilloscope, which offers 70 Megahertz of bandwidth and features you would only expect in a much more expensive tool. Also, it lights up LEDs when in DMM mode, and that's always fun!

i constantly struggle around with my big Osci just to make a simple wavefiorm observation, a compact scope like that might be a very handy addition, like a dmm but it can show wavefroms.
thnanks for showing it, I have disregarded handeheld scopes previously as toys, but that seems to be a misconception on my behalf.

I agree with the assessment of the vert amplitude and Horiz timebase. Seems my intuition about which to use always seems to be the opposite one... I wish they would have used the vertical but tons for the amplitude and the horiz buttons for the timebase... Don't know why but I always choose wrong. I held out for the 100Mhz version. Enjoy your videos...

So basically this is a rebranded OWON HDS242 :D Mine has 2 MAJOR Problems. First, if you connect the USB charger the ripple of the charger is visible on the measurement. Internally not shielded or whatever it maybe. The device is rendered useless then because the ripple is in the hundreds of millivolts visible on both channels, no matter if probes are connected, not connected or grounded. Second problem ist calibration drift. My device must be self calibrated 30 minutes after turning it on because if you put a sinewave on it, both swings differ by about 20-30 % in amplitude. So to get correct measurments you basically have to calibrate it when turning it on or wait 30 minutes, then one time calibrate and live with that. Still i love my Owon because it is super fast, easy to handle and you still can measure fine with it IF you know what you are doing. I can still recommend the product, no matter wich name it is branded under.

To your first point, since it's battery operated, why aren't you just running it on battery? I leave mine to charge when not using occasionally, and use only the battery when the device is in use. No extra wire that way, too.

@@DavZell I run it on battery but since i have the one with signal generator too it lasts about 3-4 h when you use the generator and the scope. And sometimes i just need it for longer than that :)

@@Vitriolguy What if you used a powerbank when you needed extra juice rather than plugging it into a charger?

Jesus Christ, why does the intro music have to be so god damn loud compared to James's speech? If I set the volume to a comfortable level for speech, the intro damages my hearing >_

No, not automatically. You could use the cursors to determine it though.

This is a rebranded owon. Extremely basic for an oscilloscope, almost featureless. But in the field even a poor oscilloscope is better than none at all. At least it's cheap.
