Gorillaz did what Disney won't do: a proper love letter to 2D animation
❤❤❤❤
2D mentioned
Say that again
Tbf, they kinda did with the 'Once Upon A Studio' short film, but that's it
They did with Princess and the Frog and everyone let it flop bc the lead was black... Let's not rewrite history
Gorillaz didn’t drop a music video… they dropped a whole animated short film. The level of artistry here is insane.
They dropped a new epoch
I see we graduated from a Melancholy Hill to a Melancholy Mountain
i love this

@ArxTun stop.
LETS REJOICE 🙌🙌🙌
Love when they back in to their hip hop roots randomly
Someone didn't listen to their previous album
@guppers1301 Yeah, well. The average The Mountain enjoyer left all the way back in Plastic Beach (2010) and is returning just now. They missed the previous album and the one before that.
@LiamC328 🙅wrong🙅
Dude, I had completely forgotten the feeling of seeing something new and it not being lame. Thanks, Gorillaz, for keeping a li'l something alive
Same, it was nice and slow. No quick cuts and fast paste. I can't stand todays animations cuz of that. But this 8.5 minutes were something i have not experienced since i was a little when disney animation was peak
Everyone says this is an homage to disney, but it is more homage tk the animators. Not the soulless corporate knee-benders to fascism.
There are also multiple styles and stories, not just diz.
Beautiful short film. Loveletter to the good golden magic of hands, brains, and hearts over AI slop dribbles and the corporate vampirism of the artistic talent of humanity.
All corporate people have or want is money.
All true artists want is to share their vision and get a living wage from it.
@602CAPA🫰
@sillypinkewe🫂
Man u gotta start consuming different content if that's the case
Is it even an album if Murdoc isn't pissing?
the man needs to release himself
Or getting with a snake?
@АтанасСтоянов-т5и members first
This is my first Gorillaz album, he does this every time?
@ClaramityGames I hope to have Murdoc's rizz someday.
Noodle mouthing "I love you" before jumping off the boat was such a moving little detail.
YESSS 😭😭
IM PRAYING SHES ALIVE
It made me cry 🥹
YEAAAAH I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT 😭🙏🙏
DID THEY KILL THEM OFF
3:50 don't know if anyone else noticed but the guy raising his arm is a reference to Amar Bharati, an Indian man who raised his arm since 50years non-stop in devotion to Shiva
yeah ur right now i remember
Oh wow I never heard this story thank you
I saw that too!
Ooh. Om namah Shivay
Is that why it looks like there's a bunch of vines overtaking his body? Because he was just sitting in that one spot for so long?
"I hope we're friends in every life" type shit.
I cant tell if this is sarcastic or hate
@BobcatMarley Neither. I have seen others talk about the video being an artistic depiction of the cycle of samsara, and this implies that the whole band meets each other in every cycle, and that they seemingly all seem to be grateful and glad for their reunions. I think it's very sweet and beautiful.
@Max-sh6zu That's amazing.
@Max-sh6zu Yeah and you're always making commentary from the sidelines. And I'm always insulting you for making commentary from the sidelines, because I'm the trickster and you're the fool.
I met a girl recently who makes me feel this way %1000. I don't know what to do about it. She's already taken....I hope I am strong enough to just be her friend so I can feel this way a bit longer.
New fans: “he didn’t hook up with the snake, did he?”
Old fans: “he definitely hooked up with the snake”
That's our Murdock
yeah no way he didn't lmfao.
She like HIS snake... lol
@JuanCabrera-cw6peso "funny"
snake likes snake
Fuck A.I, this is how real art looks like.
Fr
Say it louder!!
This is not a i dumbasses
A.I. isn't just art jackass
@gorgeapex8775 thats exactly what they said lmao...
"Fuck Ai, this is real art"
Indicating their distain for AI, and that this piece of art is well done and crafted well, somthing AI cant do
No way Murdock just cracked a snake bro
😂
This felt special. Hand drawn, painted backgrounds, grounded. Nothing beats 2D animation. Thank you to everyone involved for making this.
BlackpinkBiggestFan-h5s BOOOOOO!! GET OUT!
Yeah I just read the more section.
You can thank Jamie Hewlett for the animation and Damon Albarn for the music.
ai could never replicate this amount of love of the craft.
idk i thought the noodle animation was way better than the 2d animation
This short film feels like spending almost 9 mins holding hands with an old friend you used to play with every single day when you were kids
You haven’t been listening to them much lately? I’ve been up with them the entire time.
Good for you 👍
heartwarming comeback 🥰🌈✨ yeah, also had these lovely feelings as id been watching..💞✌🏻
@Wellies_YayI didn’t know they still made music haha
I found the song uninspired,,
And the visual narration lame and superficial,...
Everything including the featurings should have been great BUT it is DULL 🎉
4:23 "By chance, they stumbled upon the place where all good souls come to rest"
I NOTICED THAT TOO
"There were no screams
There was no time
The mountain called Monkey had spoken
There was only fire, and then nothing"
We are returning to Demon Days, after all.
❤
the line is referenced the first number
Knowing the context behind this album, there are tears in my eyes. Music doesn't often bring me to tears, but something about this short has moved me. I think later, I will have to tell my loved ones how much I love them.
transition from the start of the movie, where young Noodle jumps into the water and then comes out as an adult Noodle is so cool
At first, I thought it was just a call back to Noodle's phase 2 hair design, but then he became Noodle after emerging from the river 😅
EARLY!!
Día 244 comentando en vídeos gringos hasta conseguir 10k suscriptores 🗣️
we love that shot!
@StuartHaroldPot..2D I thought it was a young noodle then I'm like that has to be a young boy because they are walking around with no shirt on, they all should have stripped down to their underwear and jump in the water at end.
I love the nods to The Jungle Book, which is one of my favorite Disney films. It’s 2D animation like this that will be timeless
4 sec ago
Beginning is reminiscent of Raiders of the Lost Ark
Recognized it instantly, is so well done
I knew it was that
BlackpinkBiggestFan-h5s up on melancholy hill, there’s a plastic tree
I’ve been a Gorillaz fan for 20 years. Seeing Noodle as a kid again was incredibly touching and bittersweet. It reminded me that I grew up with this band just as she did. I am so blown away by this animation and the album as a whole. I haven’t been this deeply moved by art in what feels like a long time.
glad this is a top comments cause I was confused about the clothes
Same, Gorillaz is the first band that made me really "Get" what it was like to enjoy music
and now later this month i get to see them live after years of trying, excited doesnt even begin to cover it
@ferrisbueller9991 There appears to be a lot of symbolism behind the events in this animation. The clothes can represent her transition from an innocent, carefree child to a self-conscious adult. Something we can all relate to, I think.
OH THAT WAS HER AS A KID?! This whole time I thought she was trans.
@prozenconns7082 Congrats, happy for you! Enjoy the show! I'll also be seeing them later this year. I'm so incredibly excited.
Telling my kids this was The Jungle Book
A massive L to netflix for not given the gorillaz a chance to get a movie.
This is a beautiful jungle book inspiring short film. 10/10.
Let's Hope producers understand what they Lost and maybe we could actually see a movie 🥹
I'm glad about that honestly, Netflix is trash, last thing we need is them ruining another franchize

Well, they just had a bunch of money freed up after the WB deal fell through, so here's hoping!
A hand drawn animated short film in 2026 has to be one of the most magical, soulful things ever
I found ya luna 🗣🗣🗣❗️
@rociogygHi!!
Haha I follow you on Insta your art is godly!
@batwinged.fairy23 THANK YOU!!!
OMG LUNAAA, I LOVE UR ART
Damn we were having so much fun we forgot 8 minutes passed
I was so disappointed when it ended lol. I was too invested in it XD
FUE MUY RAPIDO QUE NI ME DI CUENTA QUE ERAN 8 MINUTOS😭
Same XD
@kool-aid531 also that too 😂😅
@kool-aid531me too. For me it felt kinda underwhelming the way they end it. I was expecting for something to happen when they fell down to earth. 👎🏽
gorillaz videos to me have always felt like someone animated a dream they had, but this one especially so. especially the last part of noodle mouthing "i love you" before jumping into the water. that whole thing makes me feel like i just woke up after an afternoon nap
They really should make a movie or a series(6 seasons btw)
Yesss, it’s warm and familiar! Intimate! Can feel the air, the weight, and the water.
i know someone who worked on this, seeing her name up there next to Jamie freaking Hewlett is totally surreal to me. mad props to her and everyone who worked on this, it’s incredible and further proof that 2D animation will never die ❤.
Its sad that 2d animation even left to begin with. I know its still around here and there. But it rreeeaally needs to be used fully again and 3d animation needs to be dropped or atleast split tbe difference.
@patback1001 watching stuff like across the spider verse, puss in boots the last wish, etc are proof to me that we don't need to ditch 3d animation. There was just also no reason to ditch 2d animation the way we did either. They are different mediums that can both look incredible in their own ways and can be mixed etc. Just like how no one would argue to replace all animation with stop motion but we wouldn't say get rid of it entirely.
@MarcypialI agree 100% its just the quality of 3d animation, its like its sitting still with no improvements. Or rare improvements. Like mosg big animators found what they call a safe style. The spiderverse was well done, even ninja turtles that new one was pretty good. Puss in boots was another great example. But thats 3 or 4. We need more takes on it and to split it between 2d animation.
@patback1001 I agree however I think that's less an issue of the medium or even an issue of the creators of the shows. And an issue of the companies. I mean it's a different genre and medium entirely to all this but take iron lung. What makes that such a special watch (especially if your a fan of the game or Markiplier) is the obvious passion he put into it. It's the same thing that made across the spider verse so amazing (pun intended) and it's the same thing that made the old 2d animated Disney movies so incredible. As we are now however the passion gets sucked out of the projects it feels like once production on the idea begins
Also sorry if I rambled.... It's 4am and I'm sitting in an airport lol
I will never forgive Netflix for cancelling the Gorillaz movie
NEVER. I coudlve had my pfp as one of them💔
Don't trust Netflix again..
At the same time though, if Netflix didn't even believe in the project ...
There are some slop-level movies releasing regularly on Netflix, and I would hate for Gorillaz to be in that category
@Petty_xpyes I could see them ruining it by overdoing it. Rillaz are soo good cuz they're a bir mysterious yes, but also rather simple.
I definitely feed the anger when I think about that for too long 😂
Can't believe Gorillaz duped us into thinking it was a horror short when it was one of the most whimsical and relaxing short films/music video I've seen absolutely loved every part of it
Bro how could you even think the previews were horror? 😭
@thespicehoarderThey released two. One was presented as a horror movie, the other a Disney movie. I presume they did this to screw with everyone.
(So far)
If the mountain is called Monkey, we better not have some strange folk comin'
And they better keep their sunglasses off
This _has_ to be the best traditional animated short film in which Murdoc fucks a snake off-camera
Rest in Peace Trugoy the Dove
Rest in Peace Mark E Smith
Rest in Peace Ibrahim Ferrer
Rest in Peace Bobby Womack
Rest in Peace MF DOOM
Rest in Peace Dennis Hopper
Rest in Peace Tony Allen
Rest in Peace Lou Reed
Rest in Peace Damon's father and Jamie's father
Rest in Peace to all who made Gorillaz transcend genre. I'll see you in the next life.
@Ninjalol00 nothing to do with Gorillaz though
@Ninjalol00 No. The people they listed were former Gorillaz collaborators.
I like this. The grief and reincarnation are part of Jamie and Damon's life and art.
RIP as well DeShaun Dupree Holton aka Proof, Ike Turner, John Davis, and Terry Hall
All legends
I actually cried at the detail of noodle mouthing "I love you" before her, and everyone else jumped off the boat.
100/10, I really loved the movie!!
It was truly a BIZZARE moment marks a great small ADVENTURE
@Larecelq say that again
@sunkyasisa1834 that again
same here. tear of joy. and how amazing the artstyle looks makes it even more better😭
Me too 🥺
i kinda teared up seeing demon days Noodle and shes all grown up now like im a proud dad
The Jungle Book nods on this are absolutely spectacular.
SAME 😭
I’m not up on the Gorillaz lore, but is there a reason why she’s the only one who appears to be ageing?
@ytknits4892 they all actually age, Noodle is just the most obvious because she was really young at the beginning of gorillaz while the others have been adults the whole time :]
Just an emotional bitch
On 14 February 2026, I lost my greatest blessing, my sweet mother, to stage 4 cancer.
I still haven’t fully processed it. Maybe that’s why the tears haven’t come yet… or maybe they have in ways I don’t even realize. Grief is strange like that.
I just wanted to thank you for this beautiful music. In some quiet way, it has helped me breathe through the pain.
Sometimes I’m beginning to understand that letting go is also a form of love.
I miss you so much, Maa.
I hope we meet again someday. Until then… please forgive me.
🙏🏻
W u babe 🫂🫂❤️🩹
Grief is the price we pay for love 🌅🫶🏻
Why on this video tho
Knowing that this album is very focused around how Indian culture influenced Damon and Jamie's views of grief and death, I'm guessing this entire video is a reincarnation cycle.
The entire gang start out living separate lives before reuniting at the mountain, where they then make the journey back to the lake to start over the cycle anew, which loops the video back to the start
I really like this. I was already thinking about how Damon has kind of given himself an immortality, of sorts.
Love this! I was wondering why it seemed that they all met up together at the base of the mountain. It seemed that they all took different paths.
That's exactly what I got, their reunion between incarnations ^^
@AthosAguiarThe dragon is long.
plus they quite literally brought the cycle to a close by using the style of era 1, musically as well as artistically (the animation being two dimensional. quite an advancement from the first MVs but thats to be expected of an artist that grows and learns)
I appreciate that Bobby Womack and Dennis Hopper are 'featured' despite both being long dead; it really resonates with the themes of death and rebirth and legacy
and tony allen!
@EmberrUwU Tugor the Dove and Mark E. Smith as well :3
and proof!
These fuckers have been making music for like thirty years and they just made me cry, how can they keep getting better?
they put soul into their music
He*
@MainBaikaland I can hear that and See that with my Soul
Ha i discovered them shortly before their second album release in 2001. I was 11. My mom would give me crap about liking that "crazy music with the creepy cartoons". Here we are 25 years later enjoying this music on this fine Sunday morning.
I know right❤🥹
This song calms my 4-month-old son. Whenever he cries, I play this song and he stops crying. I told my partner about it, and earlier today I heard him playing the song. When I walked into the room, he turned to me and said, “It really works.” XD So, thanks Gorillaz haha
Your son would probably also like Rise by a Anoushka Shankar. I played it for my daughter who is now 24. She says its ingrained into her soul.
Can confirm. I have a 2 year old and the only songs he will sleep to are Desole, and Baby Queen. So much so I was like high in the spotify charts for it last year... Anyway! Make a playlist of some soothing songs, set a timer for 15-30 minutes and enjoy the breather as your baby sleeps for a little while.
only the silliest of walk cycles for the fellowship of noodle
pretty reminiscent of the walk cycles in the jungle book don't you think?
ministry of silly walks ahh
seeing traditional 2D animation like this was so refreshing, i hope they keep it up!! so much respect for the artists
It's not traditional at all. It's mostly CG
@j@joeycampbell940by all is hand made. Confirmed by Jimmy. He would shit on your face for saying such lies. The put it together in the computer as he said, by all the art and animation is hand made. Bah, go fu ck yourself you arrogant knowitall.
Its not traditional 2D. But its still amazing
@joeycampbell940 They said traditional. Not analogue. Geez...
@joeycampbell940 It absolutely IS traditional animation done digitally. "Traditional" is the technique, not the medium. Its all frame by frame animation + hand painted backgrounds. Calling it CG is disingenuous, even if technically correct.
so good throughout, but i love the little symmetry of the noodle letting the caterpillar crawl on her face then the dragon chillin' when she lands on his face too.
This vid was an experience, Gorillaz is one of the good apples around.
At 72 years old I found this absolutely brilliant - overwhelming. ❤
Thank you for being here! 💙
I know its not, but if this was the last time we ever saw the gang I'd be satisfied, all the callbacks to previous songs and albums, the afterlife symbolism, Noodle saying "I love you" to the boys, Murdoc going into the void kicking and screaming, this somehow feels like such a fitting ending to everything.
Yeah agreed. I don’t think this *IS* the final Gorillaz album, but if it was, I’d be satisfied. It feels right.
Damon and Jamie both said they already have an idea on a new album
@Yankeefan2807 id love a second song machine
@ANH_sadflowerthey canned the second season in favor of making Cracker Island. But Mae they'll return to it one day
yeah ngl. if they wanted a break go for it. this was beautiful. gives me Random Access Memories goodbye feels
4:35 for anyone curious, i’m pretty sure this bird is supposed to be a eurasian hoopoe!
in estonian traditions, they’re associated with death and the underworld.
among other cultures, they’re connected with rebirth
i’m definitely looking too far into this. i just like birds, haha
-> editing just to say that i didn’t pull this from personal knowledge, i went insane one night and did a crap ton of research. i appreciate the comments though ^_^
100% a Hoopoe, they are incredible birds! I didn't know the connection with the underworld thnx for sharing
I don’t think you’re looking to far into anything at all ! A piece like this is very intentional. It has a clear message with room for personal perspective and interpretation. That being said from what I know this album is very rooted in spiritual/cultural significance. I wouldn’t doubt at all that when they were working on this, they definitely took into consideration the symbolism of the animals they used. Not only that but just general symbolism in art that builds storytelling without outright saying it.
Thanks
Eyy fellow birb fan!!!! Love those birds!
Dont kneecap yourself please. That was an amazing observation and contributed to the themes of the video
If you're leaving
don't make it harder
let me know
so I can say goodbye.
Yeah we often prefer a sudden death so we don't suffer but if our death is announced at least the peole around us can say goodbye
we need a full Gorillaz movie like the Daft Punk one
Interstellar 5555 rlly was a masterpiece
It's written. Netflix rejected it.
@AlfonsoXIVdeColchón why...
@malor96 Because Netflix is a toxic blight on the industry. I sail the seven seas anything on there, which is rare (One Piece?). People need to stop supporting them.
@malor96 "internal budget cutbacks and a strategic shift away from producing as much animated content".
Didn´t realize until the second watch, Noodle enters at the afterlife looking like the Demon Days phase because that was the first time she died, in El Mañana.
You're literally the only one who talks about that, and you're right!!
Wait, afterlife? They died??
@franciscoadasilvajr4514This is like their third time they have lol
That is so cool!
OMG I was wondering why did she looked like her 13/14 year old self 😭😭
5:16 RIP Trugoy The Dove, man, so happy to hear his voice even if he's gone. (Seeing him also have a writing credit on the song brings out some tears)
Consider him immortalized in this video.
That's how I felt about Proof 🩵
RIP Dave
Wait, he's gone? That entire section was the best part for me.
Died in 2023
I CAN’T STOP WATCHING THIS MASTERPIECE 🥹🥹🥹
TWIN
Is it just me or is Murdoc slightly less green? Like he has his Plastic Beach hue or something. I never thought I’d see the day
yeah it’s a bit off
I kinda preffer this over a brighter green
@macca_roeni same! it's just more Murdoc idk
@macca_roenii like it more but i have to get used to it
@WEARESTUARTPOTfits him better❤️🩹❤️🩹❤️🩹❤️🩹
burst into tears when noodle said “i love you.” this whole short is a perfect representation of growing up.
A DAUGHTER AND HER 3 DYSFUNCTIONAL DADS 🥹💚❤️🩵
same
OMG ik😭
Pretty sure she said "I have to go"
@sukuramaizu That's not how the lip sync reads though.
3:26 noodle riding on top of Russell like in plastic beach 🥹🥹🥹
I thought it was Mowgli on Baloo reference
@Arikui_123I thought the same thing. It made me think of Mowgli and Baloo from The Jungle Book. At least the Disney animated film.
@Arikui_123 It's definitely both!
Exactly!!!
Noodle and Russel core
Been thinking about this everyday since it came out.
I think a lot of people like to forget that Noodle was a child when she was shipped to the band. She was basically raised by her bandmates from the age of ten, and before that, she had nothing even resembling a normal childhood. Russel, 2-D, and Murdoc are the only family she's ever really had. What does that kind of life do to a person?
Probably because she's a fictional character 😂
people like to forget that?
It makes one mighty 🤘🏽
@ilikefIags You'd be amazed.
@louisecloherty5338 Fair
Noodle mouthing "I love you" has me breaking down in tears and I can't articulate why
Because she loves 'em.
That got me too 😢
Wait, when does she do that?
@MeIsSpontaround 6:30
@dispenserdownsaw it, and now I’m kinda teary eyed 🥹
2d is being animated in 2d again!
Yeah, it’s already been 3 years since the last 2D animation
I've been waiting so long for this moment..
2-D in 2D!? Gggaaaahhh my head! 🤯
This kinda confuses me bc he's been in 2d animation for years.... Now now, song machine, cracker island, etc.... Like?? When was the last time you saw their content?? Edit: nvm I get it now! Sorry my autism was autisming and I was like... "Oh here he was-" but I think you meant year wise or something ☝️😭
@sammy_11_21 Yeah, don't worry 😊👍🏻
I only wish this was an entire animated movie
7:00 The boat scene with the person rowing the boat was “the sad god” and Murdoc was left behind and basically was grinning at him implying you choose to stay back and remain in the sadness and he was like no no I don’t want that anymore and falls in
The Murdoc lore gets better every year
I kind of felt murdoc is a reincarnation of the guy in the boat
I interpreted it that Murdoc was hesitant. He seems very subdued after the events of the cult. Charon grins at him and he tries to put on a brave show of leaving (and trips because that's our Murdoc)
@raddrey I see it as Murdoc is the only one who can make the sad god smile.
@lexiifiire8834how he got reincarnation if he is immortal?
MURDOC WHATD YOU DO WITH THE SNAKE 😭
You know what he did with that snake - made their damn year 🎉
He has tangled his snake with it😂
What DIDN'T he do with the snake?
she constricted his boa
They had a very lovely time together
Close enough, Welcome Gorillaz Movie
Noodle: yeahhhhhh
I CAN'T BELIEVE IT
2D: Alright
Murdock - ehehehe huh hah urgh
@Lukatsu2007 RIPPED HER HEART OUT RIGHT BEFOREE HER EYEEESSS🗣️🗣️
I needed this.
That transition of Noodle from her kid era to adult era is cute and it shows that time has passed…

@ArxTun Dude, I'm going to block you.
@vicentecardoso-artefinal6318Idc, go ahead 🤣
SOBBED
I would be willing to pay ungodly amounts of money and years off my life for this whole album to get a feature length animation, this is some of the most impressive captivating and just straight up remarkable art I've seen in this modern era. Continuing to push the envelope in every aspect, Gorillaz are really something special
How about you make your own art with all that fervor and energy instead?
A cartoon concept album like pink Floyd's the Wall album would be dope.
Daft Punk did it with Interstella 5555, so I would love it if Gorillaz did one too.
@christinapaterno5585 I do :)
@christinapaterno5585Do you even think before you comment? Maybe you have no life, but others do. Hey, we’d all love to see plenty of things we can’t make ourselves. But we’re all busy building things nearer and dearer to us. That’s life.
just weeping casually in some cafeteria
2:23 for those wondering, the curtain says "mountain"
Merci, je me demandais
Ty 🫂
Specifically "Parvat" in Sanskrit/Hindi which translates to "Mountain".
Background artists did an AMAZING job!! Mind blown
Ikr? The setting is so beautiful 😮
Agreed! It felt so incredibly nostalgic! Immediately went to follow some of the artist on insta ♥
it's mid tbh
@debestapolishcringe You've commented this multiple times. I bet you can't do half, no... quarter of this background artwork.😂
@elsinaattheworkshop so what? I don't have to be a chef to tell that the soup is too salty.
Adult Noodle gave me such hard-core feels. Her bodily realization. We have grown up with you. I was in middle school when Clint Eastwood came out. I am almost 40 now. I cannot imagine life without THE GORILLAZ
Bro I'm 25 & I feel like my soul is older
same here bro.. i was in school when listened tomorrow comes today and clint eastwood on MTV, and got my CD of Gorillaz ... now in my 42...
I'm about to be 29 years old. I remember discovering this band as a small kid when I was only 6 years old (thanks to my older sister who's 37.)
Wow.
@IKurtCI'm with you on that statement
Not sure if you noticed, but the song that was playing during the scenes with young Noodle is a remix of one of her very first songs Left Hand Suzuki Method.
It’s refreshing to see a handmade animation that people have put their soul in. as an artist this brought tears of joy to my eyes from how beautiful the music and animation is it’s refreshing to see a masterpiece like this
The Flute in the background feels like rainfall in desert.
Well said, friend.
Flutist-Ajay prasanna
Noodle mouthing "I love you" to her older brother (2D) and her guardian (Russel) made me tear up, they are her true found family knowing her lore as an orphan/experiment from S1 and they were the ones who truly looked after her as she grew up. For those who feel bad for Murdoc not being included: She never truly connected with Murdoc in any of the phases, aside from him being her boss and sorta weird, on-off uncle, and I think she still can't forgive him after he put her through literal Hell in season 2 (regardless if he set out to find her or not, every time she is in a mess it's Murdoc's fault) and then the cyborg noodle situation in plastic beach. Don't even get me started on Cracker Island and his last roundabout with prison which made Ace, her old friend, join the band for a while. Murdoc still needs to do a lot before he can finish his cycle, but seeing that he loves turning the world into chaos, Noodle doesn't put her hands on the fire for it.
getting this video interrupted by an ai ad made the difference between the beauty of human art versus the void in artificial art more clear
was it the stupid AI heart ad? I just got that one :/
I got interrupted by two sponsors. I'm one of the schmucks that pays for RUclips premium, but premiums rules are it skips ads, not sponsors....
i got a military ad and an ai ad like hell no! no thank you and especially not now😭
Ai is here to interrupt us at being human.
Getting this video interrupted at all should be considered a war crime.
It crazy how healing this is
The hieroglyphs and cave paintings coming to life was honestly one of best visual spectacles I've seen in animation in a long time. Really the most wonderous moment of the entire video 4:39
It reminded me of a multi animator project from 10 years ago! It was so cool!!!
It reminded me of 'RA - The Path of the Sun God' ruclips.net/video/QuaXXhuZdVk/video.htmlsi=7U4ua5xEs7bvQjng
@kennethisagooddrawer Wow, this is a stellar work of art. Good find!
Reminds me of the munchkin part in the Wiz!
@kennethisagooddrawer THANK YOU!
6:30
Noodle: I love you
US: Love you to noodle ❤
thank you for paying all of these REAL TALENTED HUMAN BEINGS to make this lovely animation.
if they can afford it...
Ah the internet keyboard warriors crying about AI at every corner and making up situations to praise a hit or miss band
but... it's mid tbh
@chillmolderIt's sad that we have to praise non AI "art" this way now, but it's the right thing to do, cause AI "art" is just soulless theft slop. So of course we appreciate human skills
@debestapolishcringe tis fine for the budget Wb. probably gave them
This is absolutely flawless animation, some of the best I've ever seen in anything.
NOT AN SINGLE WORD SPOKEN
BUT AS SOON AS THOSE THREE WORDS WERE MOUTHED, I KNEW WHAT HAPPENED AND STARTED SOBBING
Murdoc was the one who was afraid to go the whole time, not the one dying.
That's why he's sitting off to the side on the cover, while the others are all standing at the mountaintop looking forward: he was hesitant about accepting death, while the others were accepting that it was their time to see what was beyond, and come back changed
wait did they die?
What happened?

@ArxTun Not American, but go get em tiger 😭
@WEARESTUARTPOTWAIT DID THEY DIE???
Well. That was probably one of the most relaxing pieces of art I've seen in a long time. Felt like my brain was transported back to a safe place and I found myself smiling throughout the whole thing. What an absolutely delightful installment in the long life of the Gorillaz. Perfect.
The animation is passable, the song forgettable, and the guest artists unneeded and clashing with the whole thing.
@OldGearMachinist Well it's just your opinion, and since you're being a nuisance hurting someone else's joy, I suggest you just keep it for yourself
@OldGearMachinistFunny how these comments always come from the most talentless losers
E
noodle mouthing "i love you"
... ough the family ever

If this doesn't get a best music video nomination at next year's grammys I will crashout
D-d-did the Gorillaz just die...to be reincarnated for the next project? Amazing, my favorite band.
Probably represents their music being reborn, what with The Mountain sounding so different, and how they're now independent.
I love that the other three jump from their own volition. Murdoc jumped out of fear because he saw himself in the boatman
I saw it more like The boatman knew Murdoc was going to join his family hes just hesitant because of the BS he went through has a child and cant properly connect with people, it was a reassuring smile but we saw it from Murdocs perspective so it looks sinister
nice callback with noodle using russ as a raft
Also a nice reference to The Jungle Book
That moment made me go "just like plastic beach!!"
Russel still functions as a flotation device.
This music gives the feeling I wanna feel later in life when I'm flowing through the universe as energy.
2:14 I like the moment when Murdoc arrives, 2D also greets him with a smile. I think he's the only one of the group who's always been kind to Murdoc and given him second chances because of his simple-minded nature and poor memory. Noodle looks surprised, as if she didn't expect to see him here.
If they're dead and this is some sort of positive afterlife, then no wonder she wouldn't expect him there
Forgive your enemies and love them
2D is anything but a simple minded
He is an intuitive and looks into the future. He understands murdocs shortcomings as a person and thats why he is willing to give murdoca chance to change for the better
2:17 I just noticed that in this part it references all of the members past experiences, 2D crashes the Geep car which is why he’s holding a steering wheel, murdoc choking a eel, and he’s holding a snake, and Russel being a giant in phase 3
I love how every Gorillaz video I completely understand everything happening, yet have no f-cking clue what's going on.
Bro, was that cave scene hip hop break in 3/4 CUT TIME? WHAT?! Please tell me I'm not imagining that!
Literally better animation than Disney right now. I would go to a theater to see a full length movie of this. Its somehow nostalgic despite it being new. I love it
there's so many blatant jungle book references, i love it. even just old disney vibes in general, it's a big source of nostalgia
Its because it pays so much respect to old hand drawn animation, with its clear call backs to the golden age of disney, most obviously jungle book.
Nostalgia is not (only) about seeng again what you cherished in the past, but experiencign thigns that remind you of those things, be it old or new.
the best media evokes nostalgia for a time and place we've never seen and only know from dreams
That Damn Shame Disney lost the Plot but just getting back to the essence of something but making it feel alive can change everything
@TainakaRicchan yeah i really appreciate the time and attention of the animation team to use traditional cell animation. Gorillaz has been using 3D and super new super modern animation techniques in their recent stuff, but if they continued that it wouldn't fit the vibe of this album or this film at all. it's so awesome how much care went into the stylization of the project!!
6:32 Noodle mouthing "i love you" genuinely made me almost cry
They were her family and saw her grow up :) And she will always love them as her family Gorillaz isn't a band its a family
@Neo@Neos20ththefirst exactly my thoughts! 😊
6:24 she definitely said I love you 😭😭
Oh. I thought she said: "I have to go." but I like "I love you" too. I guess it's open to interpretation which makes this scene even more cool.
@ejicon3099 it was clearly "I love you"
Yea but, I don't think it's a she, ...
But, who am I to say, Shiv is also shaki..
@VeganSanatani wdym u don’t think Noodle’s a she? 😭💔
@ejicon3099 Both are well fitting for when she's leaving behind hsr family to immerse herself in the waters.
absolute peak oml.
3:44 I just wanna know what went down between Murdoc and that snake
Probably 👉👌
Cracking
I wish I was the snake
@EyeOfEvil-u3j bro wishes he was the snake 💀
@letgodsortthemoutyes we read the comment too
Releasing this while so many bands/artists/companies etc have used/is using AI is such a power move, we see you Gorillaz ❤
HUMAN MADE ART WILL NEVER DIE!!!!!!!!
AI is just a tool, maybe those Words are for people who made bad use of it
@noodlerancid
Absolutely. Those in the comments throwing flaming insults towards anyone using AI both good and bad stain this masterpiece of hand drawn animation.
@gabrielgingras814 Nah, go kick rocks
@WardenLoveless
You find it useful to antagonize everyone because you hate the printing press instead of directing tangible efforts against plagiarism? Shame those who do misuse AI and can be brought down, and your voice have a value. Shame those who simply bring fantasies to life for their own enjoyment, with no profit motives, and you're shooting yourself in the foot yelling at the hurricane.
@gabrielgingras814 nope AI just steals
I have watched this at least 5 times now. This is still as fantastic as watching the first time.
It’s like a reward :3
Now up to 10 times. This video really is so good!
There's a melodic reference to Cloud of Unknowing in the background at 2:26. In the original, you hear Bobby Womack do the same melody at 2;44.
I thought that sounded familiar!
That’s a crazy catch
now i’m crying again
Thanks 🙏
2:55 awhh look how happy 2D is an- MURDOC
Murdoc being Murdoc
And after all this years he still piss like a phucking horse
@ShubAinz his dick the 5th member of the band atp
Noodle represents the Gorillaz project itself. In the beginning, it was all fun and games much like a child playing with a dragon without a care (after the Blur era etc). As she grew up, things became more serious, she had to adopt a specific appearance (clothes) and go in a journey up the mountain (the success). 2D (Damon) personally accompanied this project during its ascent, followed by numerous collaborations (some as cool and sharp as Russel, others as vicious and careless as Murdoc). Noodle wants the top of the mountain as she's pointing at it and she's grateful that they're here to keep following her seriously during this rise. The curtains open like a theater and they go through the valley of this adventure. The tiger and the monkey are major labels looking for what's happening, one just eating (profit), the other a potential predator (business shark). The snake in love with Murdoc is temptation and excesses in the showbusiness, that's also why he came with a smaller one in the hand because he already did some. The "snake oil" symbolizes the industry's promises of miracles destroying everything (that's why there's a big ad in the jungle hiding cut trees when Noodle is kid) but in reality the miracle shorcut is only for those with money (money makes money), and they had none so they simply continued on their own path. Noodle leads the way while the others follow as best they can, despite the hardships of the road. The old man represent the artists who never made it and who are stuck at this point (lost in the jungle, roots on them, long hair and nails). They finally reach the "Moon Cave," representing the achievement of the dream (butterfly), the success, the stage, the nightlife of touring. However their time eventually comes to an end, and they must follow their guide toward the afterlife, accessing an other way of being. Noodle knows this and thanks the team for the journey before they sink. Murdoc hesitates unwilling to let the fun end, but fearing fate's punishment showing teeth, he ultimately jumps too afraid of the void.
Nice summary thoroughly worth the read as watching this video was.
Wow great insight
the man with his arm up in the air in that scene is Amat Bharati! a real man who had his fist up for over 50 years in worship of shiva and advocates for world peace!
Gangsta
Wait they died I'm so confused
Lo mejor que eh visto son la mejor banda del mundo lo hicieron todo a tradicional y aunque no pueda ir a ningún concierto siempre estaré apoyándolos
1:48 HELP NOODLE'S SMIRK WHEN SHE REALIZED SHE WAS NAKED HAHAHA
That's a reference to Ashi from samurai, Jack
it’s so fucking funny it reminds me of a smug cat/dog that just got caught acting the fool
