the best way to put a dog's mind at ease and accepting of it's situation is to expose him to the behavior you want. Help yourself and your dog, take him for rides in the truck often. The more a dog is exposed to something, trying for a positive outcome each time, the easier it will be not just for your dog you and Rachel a well. I had a 85 pound rot-in-lab mix who hated to get in the car. I took him for a ride at least weekly, to a different location each time. I treated him a different treat at the end of each ride to give him something to look forward to. It took me about 4 months of repeating this many times, some times multiple times a week, but it eventually paid off. Sometimes a dog just needs a little nudge to gain the confidence it needs to execute the expected task. It is not easy but perseverance and repetition will pay off, and save you from back strain. And keep the dog from freaking out. Good luck and keep up the good work you and Rachel do. .
We have a rescue only medium size dog. He was sadly very shut down & terrified of every thing due to being locked away cruely as a baby. He is from Spain we are in UK. Our lovely dog is brill very loving & loved and bit by bit slowly when he was ready we helped him enjoy his life with us. I could never expect to take him to the vet without his little practice car rides. I was upset for Russell being so scared. Short runs in the truck would have helped him a lot. Huge hug Russell from Helen & woof woof from our fella.
I think you should start taking Russ for rides, maybe get him a few plain cheeseburgers. So that way he associates getting in the truck with something good. ❤ EDIT* * I wasn't implying Kevin and Rachel take Russell everyday to eat human food. I know fast food isn't good for any of us. But once a month shouldn't hurt, surly. Maybe there are some in the comments section that are actually veterinarians who can clear it up.I do remember when the dogs needed medication (not sure why ) that Kevin hid their pill in a BAR S hotdog.
Livestock dogs should never leave the farm not for walks not for play ! They will start to run off ! That’s why so many of this breed is dumped are in the shelter

Sending all my love and prayers that Russell's foot or leg will get all better by the vet. Poor puppy Russell some dogs hate cars or doing something that's not normal for them. Plus being a big boy makes it harder to get them in a car when they dont want to. Was easy when he was a baby😂. I full understand having a big dog myself. Send all my love and prayers to all the family ❤❤❤❤
Pro tip from a vet tech here: Dogs don't have ball and socket joints in their shoulders like humans do so picking them up like human babies/children is extremely painful for them. One arm under the neck so their head is resting on your arm that way their head is secure, can't flail or bite you and one arm under the belly at the end of the rib cage so their hips/back legs are resting over your arm ( not holding behind their legs!) so they cant flail and kick. Saves your back as well. It's how everyone in the vet field picks up dogs.
Hope Russell made out OK at the Vets (as well as getting out then back in the truck to go home 😳)‼️ Thoughts and prayers that he recovers quickly from whatever problem he has with his leg 🙏❤️🙏❤️🙏❤️🤞🤞🤞 Prayers for you 2 and all of the animals also 🙏🙏🙏❤️❤️❤️‼️‼️‼️

I take my Pyrenees and Great Dane for rides at least once a week. It might be just around the farm or out to the local dairy bar. It makes going to the veterinary clinic, or other places easier. My Pyrenees has never tried to run away. They know that when the leash gets put on that they will be going somewhere. I leashed trained them as babies. You never know when they might need to leave the property. Great thing for me is my daughter is a veterinarian and does most of their care at home, but on occasions we do have to go to her clinic. She highly recommends having them at least leash trained. It helps the dogs not to be stressed, aggressive and to have a negative experience at the vet.

I trained my Great Pyrenees to walk on leash. And occasionally took her in the car. So she never gave me a problem. Jumped right in the truck
All dogs need lease training...all of my working dogs were introduced to the lease early on and had training review periodically...

You take fantastic care of all the animals. They all look fantabulous! I cannot get over how big Russ has gotten--he looks taller than Leeske??? When they whine and cry, it breaks my heart too, even though we know it is for the best that he goes. Got my male kitty neutered today, and he cried through the whole trip, and cried when I picked him up and cried all the way home. Never rode in a vehicle, so he was scared silly. Will wait to hear how everything went--tons of hugs and kisses for him and you TWO!
Hope he gets sorted out...nothing too major hopefully....stay safe and see you soon
OMW I was feeling for ya'll... Prayers for Russell and you.
Prayers for a good outcome. ❤
Kevin and Rachel, good luck at the veterinary clinic with Russell. Hope all turns out fine with Russell. 🐕🐕🙏🙏👍👍💞💞💞🇺🇲🇺🇲❤❤❤.
