@@EricWen Okay, so I was looking at another group who typed Natalie Portman and they said ISFP. This is crazy! I am not trying to pit the typers against each other, lol, but it does make me curious b/c their clips could be interpreted as I_FP anyway. She is quite an advocate for causes and her veganism. Also, when she criticizes her former Harvard classmate, she is very hesitant to give her true opinion of Jerrod Kushner, though she eventually does. Most ESTJs I know would come full out and blast their criticism. Also, in some vignettes/interviews, she does use a lot of sensory detail and you said Si. For example, in the absolutely adorable interview with Conan when she was young, she says her costar smelled like cigars and coffee and it's a "real cozy smell." I thought that was pretty good sensory data. Did you see much of this? Just curious your thoughts, especially about Si over Se.

As an ISTJ, I was noticing, while she was talking, that she was such a workaholic, that I was thinking I would probably get tired from all the going and not enough slowing down. I'm good at getting things done, but I think one needs to space things out so that one doesn't suffer burnout. Still, I could learn a thing or two from her improvisation skills...

  • @brianfoss571
    @brianfoss571 Год назад +17

Yes!!! Awesome that you took the time to re-evaluate from the livestream and post your final thoughts, Eric. Would have been nice if Natalie were your first ISTJ, but she wasn't really checking in with her personal feelings that much in the clips. The Fi-Te bounce that Jennifer Lawrence and Tom Holland had just wasn't there. Good to see you bring up how often she dives into projects without a ton of preparation, and how consistently unbothered she is when challenged in interviews. She calmly, quickly steamrolls over criticism with her own rebuttals so the interview clips along to the next question. ESTJ better explains how motivated she was to get into directing - she directed her first short film at 27 - before making Black Swan! And in high school, she apparently wrote a paper on enzymes producing hydrogen from sugar that was entered into the Intel Science Talent Search!
Hope the I vs. E method of organizing analysis is helpful for an Emma Watson video, even if it has to be a 30-min bonus like the Timothée Chalamet extended dive you did. Looking forward to your next videos / streams, whenever you're able to release them!

It’s so good to see you again, Eric. I’m always going to thank you for telling me to keep active on social media. I feel mature now that I maintained my Twitter and RUclips accounts. I kept deactivating social media because, as you know, it has been difficult for me to express myself privately and publicly. Now, I say everything. My mom kept saying, “I liked you more when you didn’t talk.” She doesn’t say that anymore. I had to let it all out and now I’m in a place where I fit in more. I have Facebook now, discord, zoom and a professional webpage because of my job. It feels good to fit in with all these extroverts, and I wanted to thank you again for your advice.

@@duaa7576 Te can be good at seeing how things work, what's necessary to make things work or the logical cause and effect behind things...this can make them very practical about knowing how to "read the room" and react to the needs and interactions around them. This can almost make them seem Fe but it's a little different because it's not really focused on fostering emotional connection or cohesion, but is a little more objective or detached with how it approaches "solving" or "working on" the interaction.
From a diff angle, Fe and Te can be good for reacting or improv because they're both good at seeing the dynamics in the group around them and then seeing how they can "work on things" stepping in with a solution or improve things in a way they feel is necessary.
Extroverted functions are all outward focused in some way - which can help with interaction and openness.

One thing I’ve observed is how different function polarities working together can synthesize other functions in a superficial yet observably practical manner. For example, inferior functions serving their respective dominant functions:
-Inferior Fe serving Dominant Ti synthesizes Fi motivations
-Inferior Ti serving Dominant Fe synthesizes Te solutions
-Inferior Fi serving Dominant Te synthesizes Fe sensitivity
-Inferior Te serving Dominant Fi synthesizes Ti independence
-Inferior Se serving Dominant Ni synthesizes Si detail compartmentalization
-Inferior Ni serving Dominant Se synthesizes Ne exploration
-Inferior Ne serving Dominant Si synthesizes Ni intensity/focus/vision
-Inferior Si serving Dominant Ne synthesizes Se awareness and practicality
Of course, a person’s dominant function can only be served by an inferior function that has something to offer. The more you lean into your dominant function without giving it any resistance, the more your inferior function will starve from the neglect, which results in your dominant function losing fuel, which further results in your developed “synthesized function” all but disappearing into thin air.

@@jacobandersen6075 Interesting observation, that. I haven't come across that analysis before, as far as I can recall. I can certainly see that potentially working in some people I know, but I'm having trouble visualizing that in myself (Dominant Ti with Inerior Fe)...

I would argue against Si simply for the reason that she's not aware of her own sense of safety and is all about taking risks (Ni).

Ni isn't about taking risks, Se is. Ni is about having a detailed inner vision of how things will go, or how you want them to be. It might seem like daydreaming, but it's very detailed daydreaming which gives you fuel to carry on with your life

@@TheDaytimel alright so tell me how it works? And according to what standard? There's hardly an objective definition for each cognitive function.

@@oskarm646 I always thought of Ni as intention and Se action. They're on an axis as one cannot exist without the other. And so Ni is the fuel behind the "risky" action whereas Se is the action itself. Risky behaviour stems from one's Ni.

This makes a lot of sense! I haven’t seen enough examples of other ISTJs, but personally I agreed with everything you said about being more cautious and needing to evaluate and prepare more before jumping in. She seems quite comfortable jumping in and challenging herself, which is something I can struggle with. Only a tiny bit bummed we still don’t have an ISTJ 🥲
