I love the fact that Snape always writes down the instructions for the potions on the blackboard instead of letting the students use an instruction book.
I wonder if he gives the corrected recipes or deliberately holds them back. I wouldn't be surprised if he was a great teacher who didn't know how to motivate his students, causing them to perceive his courses as impossible.
Snape was a terrible teacher. Not because he didn’t know his subject- he was an expert- but because he bullied people in his class rather than motivating them, unless you were a slytherin. Though to be fair, we don’t see how Snape treats the non-Gryffindor students, so it’s possible he’s fairer to them, but it’s doubtful. Slughorn is better than Snape because he doesn’t create an air of fear around his classroom and acts much friendlier towards his students, but his habit of picking favourites is also problematic, because he neglects the other students in favour of them.

It’s really cool because hermione never had a problem in potions with professor snape as the teacher, but slughorn only goes by the textbook and she starts to struggle. It shows that besides the fact that snape torments his students, he is actually a really good teacher and is very smart.
Also, one other thing to note is that these books seem to be old. The same book used back when Snape was a student... Snape never used these books... so Harry is using updated knowledge against past knowledge...
@@TheDeathmail exactly. It's almost like Slughorn knows that anyone strictly following the textbook isn't going to create a quality potion and only someone who is willing to experiment will have a chance.

I find it funny at how bitter Hermione was when Harry created the perfect Draught of Living Death, and she brewed Polyjuice Potion in her second year 😂😂😂
Half blood prince is probably the most aesthetically shot episode in the whole series. Look at the colors, the angles, Harry’s eyebrows, the sound tracks, the dialogues, the atmosphere, etc... everything is so well polished
Ron being honest at how bad he was with the potions, but the teacher just brushing it off and encouraging him anyways, was a very surreal and wholesome moment, the thing is there are often teachers you will become honest too, without trying anything, and it is pretty good.
I think thats the thing, if they both weren't so overwhelmed of their dislike for each other, Severus really taught harry a lot of new magic and spells (that he later uses in Deathly hallows) and Harry ended up liking Potions too
@G E T R E K T 905 I know it's a joke (or maybe not) but draco is actually good in potion though and he's supposedly to be second from hermione so I think he had always pay attention even if it looks like he doesn't 😂
Emmione glares at everything all the time, though. Her two modes in the whole of the 8 films is a spectrum between looking annoyed and being angry at somethijg offscreen.
That statement is actually correct, if we account for the Half-Blood Prince and Severus Snape to be two different personalities sharing the same person. This isn't Split Personality Disorder that I'm on about here, just how the same character behaves in two different situations. Severus Snape is the teacher, the Professor, the spy. He's the sardonic (albeit most entertaining) bully of an instructor who causes undue trouble for certain students like Neville Longbottom. 'Severus' is the personality of Snape as he deals with the outside world. The 'Half-Blood Prince' is how he talks to himself. The notes in the margins were intended only for Snape's own use, not for others'. The textbook was his experiment journal. He taught children the same concepts in his classes, but refused to enlighten in a genuine manner, preferring to keep his charges in the dark about crucial topics and proceeding to sarcastically condemn them for that very reason. Severus is not the same person as the Half-Blood Prince, at least not in personality.
@@AwesomGuy971 Nah it was pointed out Riddle was extremely charming and manipulative and just managed to use those to get the info from Slughorn, hence why Slughorn was so ashamed.
Hermione would have been happy for Harry. But Harry was never an academic genius like she was. He had all the answers written down. She had to work it out herself. Harry was cheating his way through Potions.
@@klaudiagrob well, It is not considered as cheating. He made it himself. The instruction in the book Harry uses are a bit different which just helped in breweing the potion more effectively. It is the same as of Harry using a Firebolt while others use a not equally competent broom as his.
The scene was so dark I could barely see what they were fighting about. On a separate note, don't judge a book by its cover (or in this case, its state of condition). You may find a treasure inside.
i read once why hermione is not a ravenclaw even tho she's so smart and this scene show exactly why. she's a book smart and to be ravenclaw it requires you to think out side the box and not always follow instructions step by step. nevertheless, hermione is still the brightest witch of her age.
She specifically asked to be placed in Gryffindor, much like Harry asked not to be put in Slytherin. Because she had the traits of a Gryffindor as well as a Ravenclaw, the hat granted her request. This is explained in Order of the Phoenix to the DA members just as they were being founded. I believe the topic came up when they were being told about the parchment they all signed that would hex anyone who tells any staff or other unwelcome students about the organization, which Hermione herself had made.
It's more about your values. What do you value the most? For Hermione, friendship and bravery was more important, she says that to harry in the first book during the final scene's setup. That is why she was gryffindor, she did value knowledge but she valued other things even more.
I think this has to be one of my favorite scenes of the academic sides of hogwarts. A teacher setting a friendly competition in front of his students for a tidy reward, which directly or indirectly gets them to learn. In real life, a teacher would probably use extra credit as the incentive and that would be enough, but of course in Harry Potter the stakes are raised with the magical concept of “liquid luck” which is just fantastic.
If you make it competitive thats naturally going to give a lot (esp lads) of them a tail up. We’re competitive creatures, also we find it motivating and entertaining. The problem most schools have is not understanding our personal natures and instincts,, not understanding what type of personalities they have amongst their classrooms. Hence why you get a lot of bored and disinterested students (esp lads) who are staring off into space,, academics is very boring for most youngsters. Watching the scene where Harry is teaching them in the room of requirement,, how much more excited and motivated they look because its all very competitive and the stakes are getting higher,, its a lot more motivating when theres something at stake.
I had a teacher who used lollies as an incentive he used to have us play a game called "around the world" where we would either do maths or spelling challenges with one student going from student to student being asked questions if they got the question right they move to the next student if they get it wrong but the other student gets it right they continue on while the first student sits down in the others seat. Anyway, the game goes on until someone gets to the teacher who gave them the bag of lollies. If at any time both students get it wrong, then they get another question and the teacher gets one lolly. He would also eat a lolly if we wouldn't shut up. I won the maths one once and the spelling one a few times. Maths wasn't my strongest subject. Also for more incentives it was a $1 worth of lollies which back then was a big bag and for clarification there were lollies for 5 and 10 cents so in a $1 bag you would get 2 of each 5 cent lollies and 1 of each 10 cent lollies that's quite a lot of lollies. I would on occasion get a 50 cent bag that was 1 10 cent lolly and 1 of each 5 cent lolly. So you could imagine a bunch of 8 and 9 year olds might really want to win the bag of lollies.
this scene, along with lupin’s biggest lesson in prisoner of azkaban, are the absolute most wholesome teacher student portions we get to see where the teacher interacts with other students and not just harry!
Snape's intelligence is sadly overlooked in the films. He was a student and was smart enough to edit the mistakes of textbooks written by "professionals" as well as creating a multitude of spells. Imagine how powerful he would have become had he lived a long life.
I agree. But I don't think they are mistakes. He is essentially "building a better mousetrap". Improving on something that already works. The formula in the book will work. He just figured out how to make it better.
@@semperaugustus661 Yeah, but he also created pretty powerful spells too. It’s not that his corrections were groundbreaking or anything, but he’s the one that made them. @@harizirfan5117 possible. Then again the Potter side supposedly had good potion makers too. That's a major reason behind their wealth. So anything is possible, I guess.
This scene shows something very important, Hermione has always relied on books as J.K said before. That's why anything that couldn't be explained in books would be impossible for her to acknowledge. Sometimes you need to "break the rules" or be a little "adventurous" to discover new things. That's why she was so angst towards Harry, the simple fact that he could overcome her without doing what she has done through all her life was unfathomable.
I disagree, Harry followed the book. But the halfblood prince’s book. That’s why he got the potion right. I mean he didn’t choose to not to follow ingredients or instructions.
@@elaphus4811 Harry isn't good at potions. That's not the point. The point is that Hermione has a fairly rigid approach to everything she does. If there is ever a “What if...?” Harry Potter series, one of the plot lines should be: What if Ron Weasley would have taken the Half-Blood Prince book?
Based on the history of Ron always having lousy used books, he'd still trade it with Harry to get a better-looking book. Harry would've trade it as well since he knew Ron always got lousy used books. Wanted to make his best friend happy like that.
Imagine how much of a breath of fresh air it must have been to have gone through 5 years of Snape's cruelty and torture then to have a fun, friendly teacher like Slughorn 😊
1:05 Little easter egg- The love potion changes colors, according to what Hermione's describing. At the end, the color turns red/orange, which is obviously not the color of toothpaste. She was probably smelling rons hair. Also explains why she had that facial expression.
Back when it came out, I couldn't appreciate Half-Blood Prince for what it was. The calm before the storm that came with Deathly Hallows. The last bit of innocent school life before these kids got turned into literal fugitives(Harry, Ron, Hermione), eaten by a werewolf(Greyback killed Lavender), or living in a traumatic situation under house arrest where you and your family might be killed at any given moment(Malfoy). And in the case of Neville, Dean, and Seamus, watching their school transform into a Dark Arts school. These were probably some of the last good memories these kids had before being forced into war.
Harry learned more from Snape's notebook then he did from Snape himself in 5 years of classes. Goes to show how good a teacher he could have been if he wasn't more interested in Bullying then teaching his students. And goes to show Harry was never truely bad at potions. He was just to busy being bullied to make good ones.
Yeah if I remember correctly there is a scene in the 5th book when Harry was in potions class and Snape was clearly ignoring him and was not on his neck like he was previously and due to that Harry actually made a really great potion by himself
Don’t forget that he literally got exceeds expectations and is one of the dozen of students who did so. He was never bad, he just thought he was because snape was always down putting his work
I also think there was some bias on Harry's part too. He didn't want to learn from Snape while he was in his class but had no problem learning from his writing in a book. Even in the first book they assume Snape is the bad guy when he isn't. They also assume that about him a few other times.
@@nathanaelluisdesousa4938 I've only read the 5th and 6th book so most of what I know is from the movies. He seems closer to one of my harsh but fair wrestling coaches than he does to an abusive teacher.
The thing about Hermoine is that while she has a good brain, she doesn't have the spirit of an Ravenclaw. Lune's dad said it best; 'painfully limited. Narrow. Close-minded.' For her, if it's written in a book it's written in stone, otherwise it's not true. I think the reason she was so bitter about the Prince's book is because she was jealous. This was someone who could not only learn from the book, but build on it. Someone who would experiment, innovate, and make something original; something we've never seen her even attempt.
So that makes Hermione similar to a classical computer. She’s logical and can execute steps with precision. Hermione is very much a by the books kind of person which is why she finds the library to be a comfort of sorts. Books give her direction. Developing a strong friendship with Harry and Ron helps her open up a bit through the story. She does exhibit some inventiveness by Book 7 though. Using the undetectable extension charm to turn her bag into a cargo bay to carry all their supplies is advanced magic. But she had a quite of bit of skepticism initially when it came to the Deathly Hallows.
Looking up ravenclaw values "Ravenclaw values its members' intellect, learning, wisdom, and wit" - that is in fact Hermione so she'd fit right in a ravenclaw, even if she can have issues separating from book instructions. Her desire for learning & knowledge sounds like one of the foundation of that house if not THE foundation. She mentioned in the books that the sorting hat seriously considered placing her in Ravenclaw Frankly she was probably only put in Gryffindor to keep the three main characters together, she has values of Gryffindor as well but seems far more of a ravenclaw IMO From the little I remember of the books she did experiment outside of reading as well, such as making her own curse for anyone who betrayed Dumbledor's army in the 5th book

it’s so ironically funny how harry’s not that outstanding in Potions when Snape was teaching it. Then when they changed to Slughorn, he’s now finally acing the subject with the help of Snape. 😂
I noticed in the books that Snape would write instructions on the board, and then the students would follow either that, or their books, or both. Harry never seems to bother following what Snape writes on the board bcs he's too preoccupied with being mad at him, and in the books Snape's criticism of Harry is that he didn't follow some specific instruction from the board.
I almost had a similar thing during a maths exam in school. After I completed the test there was extra pages clipped on revealing all the answers. But unfortunately everybody in the class had them too and somebody blurted it out to the teacher who ripped my pages out immediately.

I’m mostly laughing at how this movie implied she had some semblance of “daddy-issues.” She admits the scents of fresh cut grass and toothpaste are attractive to her, and later on tells people her parents are dentists! I know women are capable of mowing lawns, but since it’s more common for fathers and sons of families to do this, she basically admitted to being attracted to qualities of her father!

I wonder how many times Snape experimented with making this potion before writing down all the more "helpful" instructions, like "crush the bean; don't cut it" and "use 13 beans instead of 12". Seeing that potions class is kinda equivalent to muggle chemistry classes, I'm guessing Snape had a very good understanding on the inherent properties of each ingredient and how they would interact with each other.
According to Lupin Snape could very easily have tampered with the Wolfsbane potion he made him when Lupin taught at Hogwarts but Lupin said Snape made it so he didn't suffer at all and its revealed the Wolfsbane potion is incredibly difficult to make so Snape must have a genius level intellect with potions and he clearly taught Harry reasonably well because he did get Exceeds Expectations in his O.W.L and he hates Harry lol
I remember years ago at school in English literature class I pulled an old anthology from the cupboard because I forgot mine at home. Each poem had notes and clever insights all around it. It was incredible honestly. Thank you passed students!
that shows that if given the right resources, harry can do something well, but not if he has to figure it out. MAYBE IF DUMBLEDORE DIDNT TELL HIN EVERYTHING IN RIDDLES, VOLDY WOULD BE DEAD 10 YEARS EARLIER
I think Potions is primarily based on your ability to follow the damn instructions. Not every Wizard has the ability to remember everything. Harry did that well, and it just so happened that the instructions were even better than what the other students got.
@@P.Whitestrake Agree. As I remember, at some point in that book Malfoy curses Hermione, and as a result her large front teeth got even larger. When Madam Pomfrey shrinks it back to it's normal size, Hermione tells her to keep going and gets it shrink to a normal tooth size.
In Britain at least, back before... Oh, I want to say the 50s? The mortarboard hat as it's known was part of the standard dress for a teacher. Obviously the series is set either in the 90s for the books or the 00s for the films, but Slughorn is something of a throwback.
Those hats and cloaks have always been traditionally for teachers to wear. It was sort of like their uniform or an indication of what they do, like how doctors would wear lab coats. It's not like that for teachers anymore obviously, but as it's the wizarding world things are a bit more traditional!

Funny parts in this scene: When Ron and Harry both wanted the new book but Harry got the torn up one. The girls smelled the love potion, got close to it and then Slughorn closed the lid. “How’d you do that?” “Crush it, don’t cut it” “No, the instructions specifically said to cut it” Everyone was jealous that Harry got liquid luck.
If you pay attention to Draco, his reaction when the luck potion gets brought up. It just made me think, he was probably thinking "Maybe this potion will get me and my family out of this mess with Voldermort." I kind of felt bad for him that he didn't get it.
Before this, Snape always write the potion recipe in the board hence Hermione nailed it every time. Now, she had to follow books and Harry follows Snape's recipe.
The fact that the book is by Snape actually proves that Harry is reasonably good at making potions,he just couldn't make it in front of Snape because of the bullying. Snape never taught the students from the book,he wrote his own instructions, so Harry was basically using Snape's instructions all this time, but he actually managed to make the potion properly when Snape wasn't around
People seriously asking how Harry didn't recognise Snape's handwriting? This kid didn't even realise he's a wizard when he made a glass vanish into thin air
What are you implying at? Imagine if you had that situation, would you presume you're a wizard? Plus, handwritings do change. Harry is usually very observant to detail.
There are also other explanations to the glass vanishing. Harry could’ve been psychic and teleported the glass. I can actually imagine several cars crashing in the street cause a large pane of glass suddenly appeared in the middle of the road from nowhere.
Harry and Ron being late to potions class without their books, Harry becomes top of the class making both Hermine and Malfoy hilariously jealous, priceless lmao 🤣.
Theory (probably not original): noticed when she said grass it turned green, but when she said toothpaste it was orange. Maybe she lied because she was to embarrassed to say it smells like Ron's hair? Hmmmm...
When Hermione smelled the love potion she said toothpaste because Ron tried to wipe the toothpaste off her cheek at the beginning of the movie. That was a little thing I discovered about Hermione's love for Ron.
Shape taught the students his knowledge in the half blood prince book on the board and didn’t use textbooks. And now they’re using textbooks and yet Hermione fails the first time while Harry succeeds with the old book. Snape is nice :D
If he did, why Neville had ALWAYS troubles in his class? And on top of that Snape insults every student who is not Slytherin, Snape would have kicked Harry out of school during Harry's first week if he had ended up in Slytherin. Thankfully Harry is a TRUE Gryffindor.

When Hermione is smelling the potion, the colour of the potions steam changes to what she is describing but at the end, when she says spearmint toothpaste, the steam is red/ orange which is probably the smell of Ron's hair, hence her facial expression. It’s really cool because hermione never had a problem in potions with professor snape as the teacher, but slughorn only goes by the textbook and she starts to struggle. It shows that besides the fact that snape torments his students, he is actually a really good teacher and is very smart.
You could also argue that Slughorn goes by the book in order to identify students who step outside the box which fits his character.

It's Hermoine* not hermione. @ryanhorowitz6881 @lowhp_comic.

'Only once did a student brew a potion sufficient to win this prize' - obviously Snape.

i read once why hermione is not a ravenclaw even tho she's so smart and this scene show exactly why. she's a book smart and to be ravenclaw it requires you to think out side the box and not always follow instructions step by step. nevertheless, hermione is still the brightest witch of her age.
Ahhhh Luna Lovegood and riddles
But Hermione granger is very brave
Hermione herself explained in Order of the Phoenix that the Sorting Hat wanted her in Ravenclaw but she wanted to be in Gryffindor.
I love how Ron doesn't even care that Harry won, he's just smiling.
Bestie for a reason

he's his friend. And Ron isn't really the competitive type.
Hermione was like 😠. Bitter that she wasn’t the best for the first time.
He said he's lousy at potions so he's not surprised somebody besides him won it lol

Ever since I was young I always hated when they would tell the truth at the end of the show/movie. So I liked when Slughorn never knew.
Maybe he did get some talent from his mother but Snape's teaching made him lose all interest in actually trying to do better in potions from years 1-5. In the sixth year, when he saw the Half Blood Prince's book was giving better instructions his interest was perhaps rekindled.

They're like, *ive had enough of Harry being the golden student*
She mentioned in the books that the sorting hat seriously considered placing her in Ravenclaw
Frankly she was probably only put in Gryffindor to keep the three main characters together, she has values of Gryffindor as well but seems far more of a ravenclaw IMO

I loved the difference in difficulty/material as the years went on, this really feels like an advanced potions class for the final year
4:15 everyone's like god dammit harry always wins everything LOL
He’s the chosen one
Harry is the best. He's The Chosen One.
@@SymphonyBrahms actually no he is not the best he would not have destroyed voldermort without his friends. In the ministry he would have gotten killed if the aurors werent there .
Except lavender 🤣🤣🤣
Karina Soroka no he wouldn’t but it is true, Harry needs his friends
fun fact: the last thing hermionie could smell from the potion was Ron's hair.
By the way,how a hair smells? I ve never got the smell of the hair
wasn't the toothpaste a reference to the first part of the book/movie where ron was telling hermione that she had some toothpaste left on her mouth?
@@nj7190 Of course. Funny, neither Ron, nor Hermione knew they were actually in love 💕
@@nj7190 No, it was a reference to her parents, because her parents are dentists.
@@aryamanbhadauria1584 it’s actually a reference to Ron, from earlier in the movie where he clears up toothpaste from Hermione. Of course, toothpaste is not a wizard thing and it does not appear in the book either. She stops at “fresh parchment and…”.
In both the book and the film, Slughorn is perplexed as to what a dentist does.
The nicest slythern I've ever seen/read
Irving Ramirez Because being a Slytherin doesn't mean that you have to be evil, you just have to be cunning and very ambitious.
Very biased still. When you don't care about helping weaker students just groom celebrities you're obviously should't be a teacher. Still nicer then Snape, I agree.
Slughorn is slytherin ?
Who
@@kjk4795 He was, even head of house before Snape.
This reaveals the genius of Snape that even as a student he is able to correct and modify recipies created by greatest magicians of that time
They are magicians does not mean they are Gods. ;-\
Instructions: “Cut up” one Sopophorus bean.
Snape: No, I don’t think I will
Snape: No U
I can see snape actually thinking that when he came up with a better way to extract the juice from the bean
Fun detail: Hermione from book/movie 1-5 Hermione always makes perfect potions. This is when Snape taught the class
When Snape leaves to teach DATDA, Hermione’s potions are nowhere near as good as they used to be.
The only one who makes perfect potions is Harry, and he has Snape’s old textbook
So Snape is an amazing teacher
@@doctorwitherdorakuro6028 Not only that, Slughorn seems ineffective at teaching as he's only out to score 'prized' students or steal materials that he can later sell for profit.
He's not interested in actually teaching the youth. May be the reason why Snape and Lily excelled, they could have had to learn by themselves.
I figured that. Snape is like that one really good teacher and you get good grades because of him, but is very scary and intense.
@@yk_6624 not scary but petty one who bullied you for no apparent reason and had favorites...
Conclusion snape gave the students his improvised recipes of the potions. That proves it that he was a true teacher. But he was always overlooked because of his strict and mean expressions
Hermione's expression when Harry won the potion as a prize was priceless 😅
She looked like she was about to join the slytherin's 😆
I know :-). And the reluctant clapping... lol
Anyone else laughing at Hermione's stressing and failure with the potion in the class?🤣🤣
🙋♂️
I’m mostly laughing at how this movie implied she had some semblance of “daddy-issues.”
She admits the scents of fresh cut grass and toothpaste are attractive to her, and later on tells people her parents are dentists! I know women are capable of mowing lawns, but since it’s more common for fathers and sons of families to do this, she basically admitted to being attracted to qualities of her father!
@@HuginnHufflepuffThat's not daddy issues. Most women are attracted to the qualities of their father, since their father represents, at least to a young, growing mind, the "ideal man." That's why absent, or abusive, fathers are so damaging to children (men and women by the way).
I think the toothpaste is referencing the time when the trio were in the Weasley's house, Ron was saying Hermoine had a bit of toothpaste on the corner of her mouth after brushing, at the beginning of the movie. Hinting Hermione's affection towards Ron.
@@arnoldthomas5278Keen observation. You could be right.
I love that little fight of Harry n Ron XD.
Also,Ron's my favourite character
RUCHA : Potterhead My fav character as well
RUCHA : Potterhead for me also
Mine too.
Thank you Rucha, Ron's my favorite character as well, it's so sad that he often gets overlooked. For me he's always the underdog, and I can relate myself to him. Go Ron!
He's such an underrated character
Anyone notice that when Hermoine talks about the smell of the potion she’s basically saying she has a crush on Ron
i thought it was muggle stuff like having a lawn and toothpaste and liking to study the smell of paper
@@hotstuffwatcher that’s what I thought at first but after rewatching I’m pretty sure the toothpaste was a call back to the beginning of the movie when Ron was flirting with her saying she had a bit of toothpaste on her.
@@hotstuffwatcher I figured that the toothpaste was because her parents are dentists
In the book she never finished saying what it smelled like to her. She just blushed and backed away
@@imastatistic8347 that’s our proof
I wonder how many times Snape experimented with making this potion before writing down all the more "helpful" instructions, like "crush the bean; don't cut it" and "use 13 beans instead of 12". Seeing that potions class is kinda equivalent to muggle chemistry classes, I'm guessing Snape had a very good understanding on the inherent properties of each ingredient and how they would interact with each other.
Yeah, Sirius telling Snape: "Go and play with your chemistry set." 😂👌
According to Lupin Snape could very easily have tampered with the Wolfsbane potion he made him when Lupin taught at Hogwarts but Lupin said Snape made it so he didn't suffer at all and its revealed the Wolfsbane potion is incredibly difficult to make so Snape must have a genius level intellect with potions and he clearly taught Harry reasonably well because he did get Exceeds Expectations in his O.W.L and he hates Harry lol
@@wickedwitchoftheeast88 'genius' doesn't exist and knowledge of the potions is the point here
I remember years ago at school in English literature class I pulled an old anthology from the cupboard because I forgot mine at home. Each poem had notes and clever insights all around it. It was incredible honestly. Thank you passed students!
I knew Harry is not a genius nor is a cheater, he just follows the instructions that was well written
You are right. Harry didn't cheat. He just followed Snape's written instructions. He was actually being tutored by Snape.
@@SymphonyBrahms yeah the Snape way was easy but both the way was right
that shows that if given the right resources, harry can do something well, but not if he has to figure it out.
3:48 thats how hermoine is supposed to look, according to the book; wild hair of sorts
I'll be honest, she looks better that way
@@dusathemaid I think you hurt Emma Watson's feelings.
No there was no long teeth
@@ushasahay4196 The long front teeth was gone after the 4th year. She was basically became prettier after the 4th year, according to Rowling.
I always think that the Half-Blood Prince movie was so underrated...

I feel like the games are underrated
It’s my FAVOURITE!
It's my next to favorite. My favorite is The Prisoner of Azkaban. That is such a great movie!
0:41 let’s be honest we’ve all been there 😂
Why does Slughorn look like he’s graduating? He’s got the hat and everything. 🤣
I really like how Hermione's appearance's changing during that scene 0:56, 3:29, 3:49 4:10, 4:16
From perfect to scruffy student under the pressure
0:55 perfect school outfit (the most accurately arranged tie, robe and also hair)
3:29 Confused Hermione with unfastened button and slightly loosened tie, but still in robe, slightly disheveled hair
3:49 Stressed Hermione with more curly hair, without a robe and rolled up sleeves and more loosened tie
4:10 grin and bear it xD like "I keep trying everything is OK" even worse looks
4:16 Her hair is the best, xD says everything and she's like "that's illegal I should've been there" xD
So true! Nice details 😁
Funny parts in this scene:
When Ron and Harry both wanted the new book but Harry got the torn up one.
The girls smelled the love potion, got close to it and then Slughorn closed the lid.
“How’d you do that?” “Crush it, don’t cut it” “No, the instructions specifically said to cut it”
Everyone was jealous that Harry got liquid luck.
If you pay attention to Draco, his reaction when the luck potion gets brought up. It just made me think, he was probably thinking "Maybe this potion will get me and my family out of this mess with Voldermort."
I kind of felt bad for him that he didn't get it.
And what about Seamus when that potion exploded? It was like in the first film when his wand blew up when he tried to recite a spell! 😂😂

Snape makes everything good except teaching
You’re right but Harry also succeeded in 6th year at Potions because he had Snape’s book with better instructions
Nonsense. Harry succeeded only because of Snape’s instructions. If Goyle got Snape’s book, he would succeed too
@@immortalfrom90 they were all using Snape's instructions in Snape's potions classes, too
He also achieved quite a high score on his OWLs so I wouldn't say he wasn't learning there
People seriously asking how Harry didn't recognise Snape's handwriting?
This kid didn't even realise he's a wizard when he made a glass vanish into thin air
What are you implying at? Imagine if you had that situation, would you presume you're a wizard? Plus, handwritings do change. Harry is usually very observant to detail.
There are also other explanations to the glass vanishing. Harry could’ve been psychic and teleported the glass. I can actually imagine several cars crashing in the street cause a large pane of glass suddenly appeared in the middle of the road from nowhere.
@@CesarACastillo but the glass was placed back after, dudley was locked in
@@Wienerslinky wasn’t that just the movie? I’m pretty sure it wasn’t replaced in the books.
Snape scribbled those when he himself was in 6th year, his handwriting probably changed a bit since then
3:35 Burning disastors always happen to Seamus since Year 1
Dean behind him: 😝
3:36 I guess it's a tradition for Seamus to always have something blowing up in his face xD
Haha lol yes
I guess so.

Hey, it's Dean, not Dino
Harry and Ron being late to potions class without their books, Harry becomes top of the class making both Hermine and Malfoy hilariously jealous, priceless lmao 🤣.
4:15 Harry savouring the pleasure of outsmarting Hermione for once 😂😂
Freshly mowed grass = summer
Parchment = books
Spearmint toothpaste = her parents were dentists
from another comment I've seen I'm going to trade spearmint for Ron, the smoke turns red and she thinks of a different scent that would seem obvious
Theory (probably not original): noticed when she said grass it turned green, but when she said toothpaste it was orange. Maybe she lied because she was to embarrassed to say it smells like Ron's hair? Hmmmm...
I think she made up one because it turned orange for a second which is Ron's hair color then she said spearmint toothpaste
There was toothpaste scene where Ron touches her and says there's toothpaste. She smiles foolishly
@@helene4397we are talking about his outstanding abilities and potion gift , ur pointing out him being a bully teacher after all which is about his attitude and has nothing to with his magic skills
No wonder Snape is the best teacher when it comes to potions and Dark Arts. Even when he was young he made an instruction book better with his own notes.
It was so good that even Harry wanted to keep the book for himself.
This is easily one of the best scenes in the whole series, it really captures what it would be like to be in a magic school
When Hermione is smelling the potion, the colour of the potions steam changes to what she is describing but at the end, when she says spearmint toothpaste, the steam is red/ orange which is probably the smell of Ron's hair, hence her facial expression. In the books, it also mentions that she stopped on the second line and looked embarrassed and didn't finish her sentence
