A neat design feature for sure. My NTR master clock with mercury fille pendulum doesn't have such a feature but the bottom of the clock case is less tha a quarter inch below the pendulum pointer. Also, i'm pretty sure the escapement crotch arm would catch the pendulum as well.
I'm glad you covered this. Many people overlook this when replacing the suspension spring on a pinwheel regulator.
