Some Ideas for game Improvements: 1) Stored boats can only be accessed at the port they are in + docking fees apply 2) You can use the Sea Cat ferry to speed travel between ports (at a cost). 3) AI boats need to have AI on them + we should be able to employ AI to run our old boats (and be able to buy multiple of the same). 4) MULTIPLAYER - Total game transformation. 5) Deeper levels of realism: Mechanical failure, maintenance + repairs. 6) Better more realistic physics and damage modelling (to include sinking). 7) Bigger waves, dangerous weather and tides. 8) Better AI crew controls. 9) Better control binding options. 10) Audio improvements ACROSS THE BOARD. What are your idea?
I think it should have two modes, one simulator mode like you mention with engine failure and other problems and stuff like requiring actual boating skill and knowledge to dock with moorings etc. but one mode should just be casual game like with fishing Barents sea.
Also the way the boats move with the waves seems very un-realistic especially rocking that much in a seemingly calm port in calm weather but I guess it's cause its just a beta
1. Multiplayer 2. interacting with ai crew on the vessel 3. real-time mechanical failures and vessel degradation 4. getting weather alerts thru radio coms 5. Search & Rescue missions 6. Deployable Spotter Plane to scout for schools of Swordfish 7. Character tiredness 8. Vessel sinkable but also rescue-able 9. Rival Companies 10. Wheel support
I think adding an actual story to the game and adding crew loyalty missions would be pretty cool as well and being able to talk to your crew members at the bar would be cool, I almost forgot there's a bug that leaves a notification that the cargo has been delivered after I'd completed the mission the really need to take care of that because it's irritating
This game really needs the crew to react to events like a big haul or a small haul, etc. like in Deadliest Catch: Alaskan Storm. It also needs crew members to get injured or fall of the boat based off of how windy, wavy, and tired they are.
As someone who grew up in the stern of a boat off the coast of Maine I like it. I have done every type of fishing they offer as well. I am still lobstering and purse seining still. A few things I would change....lobstering...they havent use wooden traps in forever even in Canada. I know theyre the stereotypical lobster trap look and it probably doesnt matter but I would probably make them wire mesh with differing colors. Harpooning. They use spotter planes these days when they are harpooning. Most use rod and reel but back in the old days it was harpooning and planes were and still are used. I have read a few complaints about the inability to find schools of fish, that would solve a few issues. make it more realistic and help find a plane. Generally the plane got 25-30% as a reference. Longlining/trawling also a bit different but still decent. Other stuff I havent gotten to yet. So cant comment on anything beyond what I have seen in videos. The whole netting I have watched doesnt make any sense though but until I see how they do it myself I cant really say. Boat physics. They dont just stop they have quite a bit of drift. I would also look at tides. And the CAT is a real boat we see it daily now that it goes out of Portland.
Lobster fisher from Nova Scotia here 🙋♀️ Wooden traps have always been used here and are still being used to this day. Wire traps used in the fall and wooden in the spring for our district.
1. Multiplayer would change this game 2. I hope it comes to console 3. More realistic damage 4. Natural disasters 5. Better contracts 6. Being able to work on other peoples boats
I will simply copy paste my questions from Steam forum into here since it also can be seen as suggestions/wishlist. I would like to see much deeper boat/ship and sea/weather and sinking (physics) simulation in FNA or the next fishing simulation they maybe already working on, the concept is great and fills obviusly a gap but it should definitely focus more on the simulation aspect and provide a larger vareity of gameplay like sending distress calls/signals and answering/reacting to distress calls/signals, evacuating the ship/boat when sinking (activating alarm, commanding your sailors to get into the survival suits, preparing lifeboat and finally abandoning ship/boat) due to a heavy storm as example (yes plz heavier than in FNA and FBS). Ouh and btw good review :D How realistic/simulated is the sinking? ~ Are you able to activate alarms, send distress calls, make distress signals, evacuate your crew? ~ Can you answer/react on distress calls/signals and rescue sailors/fishermen/people? ~ How realistic is the flooding simulated? I've seen the roadmap, and it looks like the developers are taking this game very seriously. Hopefully, with all the improvements, when this game releases on console, it's going to be epic!
I think that the ai crew can pick up gear and when your boat sinks you can bail the water out and working life boats when your ships going down and there should be sandbanks and channels and the ai follow the channels and when you call for help a coast guard boat comes and tows you in and you can see the coast guard boat when you get towed in
It's a pointless, easily exploitable interface which makes it an irrelevance. If you're easily swayed by it you shouldn't be. A video is either good, bad or indifferent & other peoples `opinions` should not sway that opinion...just saying/answering your question :-)
I have seen this game pop up on sale on my Xbox Dashboard. Didn’t know it existed until then. I do love my simulator games as a nice calm chill out time. After watching your review I think I will purchase this game
Thanks for your splendid thorough review. I, like you, would prefer a more simulation based game but I suppose it depends on what type of player the game makers are looking towards. I know it's not Britain but something along the lines of a shipping forecast where there are areas of sea that have differing weather and sea state giving added thinking of where to fish.
I would’ve liked to have seen more mechanics like you said engines/gear breakdowns the ability’s to then fix it using different tools, the game it’s self is good but I think the developers could learn a thing or two watching a few seasons of deadliest catch or trawler wars this type of simulator has HUGE potential.
Great video ! ,I currently fish from cornwall on an under 10M steel trawler, I have played the barent sea on Xbox and had completed all the achievements, unlocked all the boats etc. I think i will wait untill a few more bugs have been ironed out. i really think this game would benefit from a workshop system so people could help the devs improve the game. Fishing is HARD , i agree with what your saying. I wish series was as far along in progress as Farming Sim(also workshop improved). Thanks for the video, my first sub , keep it up. cheers
It sounds like a hell of an improvement from the other game. I mean I love barrents sea. Anyway it's good to be back and dropping comments on your vids. I love your no bs way of breaking stuff down. So keep it up!
I find these games very frustrating - for as much as they get right(and it's a LOT), they just seem to have a low ceiling. Once you've experienced the boats that you've wanted to(some are just completely interesting to me) and upgraded them, then what's the point of continuing? Although I like the fishing, it gets a little repetitive and some way of making it feel more realistically 'unpredictable' would be a welcome improvement. The obvious solution is to expand the game to include even just a basic "business ownership" experience - think ETS2/ATS, just the ability to buy multiples of boats and hire captain & crew to run them. You could even have a system where long time crew can work their way up to captain as they gain experience. Have "home ports" for different boats with the ability to relocate them on the fly(maybe one port will have a really favorable short term sale rate, and you want to get a couple of boats hitting that port hard for the duration). Set schedules for your various boats, choose what each boat is fishing, make things like bait mix/type either a user choice or can be left up to the captain(maybe even allow them to over-bait, which you may find in the financials vs other boats in your fleet and you may need to correct that). Of course, a key part of this would have to include the occasional "issue"/mistake; crew(occasionally your most experienced crew too of course) get injured and need to be temporarily replaced, boats occasionally get damaged due to mistakes/heavy seas(re: more weather!), maybe even have the occasional problem with crewing not showing up on time, suggesting someone may need replacing. Obviously the basic ups and downs of economics would need to be implemented - it would be refreshing to have an economic downturn year of abnormally low prices that slash your income and require the player to make tough decisions to make it to the next season. While these ideas could get pretty complex pretty easily, I'm not suggesting that they have to be complex, simple & basic is fine as long as it's well implemented. These are pretty basic concepts that can be handled through a menu system, and I believe that the value added would easily surpass the work required to implement it - especially in long term replayability, having the desire expand a fleet and maximize your margins year over year is a nice open ended goal. As much as I enjoy both of the 'Fishing...' titles, I can't help but feel like it's just that last piece of depth that's missing. Money doesn't have value if there's nothing to spend it on, give us reasons to keep making money!
I like the review and agree this game has serious potential. But the bugs are unnerving. I have the ps4 version. Yet the bugs are still there, I set 5 longlines 5000 hooks. Did my waiting 2 lines went blue so I waited another 4 hrs. During those 4hrs all me lines went blank. No fish, what have shaks eatten all my fish in 25hr? Not likely its bugs
Good thorough review again Sim. First half had me buying it immediately but not as convinced after reviewing the bugs/simplicity. However, overall it looks like fun and I'm likely to pick this up

The lobster tutorial is wrought with errors, it quickly diminishes enthusiasm for the game. What a horrible 1st impression, be aware/beware until patched.
