- If you don't have a proven and consistent method to land new clients for your web design business, your business will struggle to stay afloat.
The most common questions asked in our industry is, "what is the best way to find clients for my web design business?" and the truth is, there is no magic solution.
However, this outreach method I use has proven to be the most effective in helping me land new web design clients consistently and also taking the stress and anxiety out of the sales process.
No more high-stress cold calling to land clients.
I love this strategy because it allow me to ease them into the the idea of working with me and helps me feel better knowing I am being helpful rather than just "salesy".

Please comment below "What is your #1 struggle with selling web design services?"
I have been selling websites for about one year now and 80% of my sales have been from referrals. I wanted to add an outbound strategy. I found this video helpful.
That's awesome brother. I was wondering maybe you can share the method/s you used to get those first clients? Thanks in advance man!
Well there is no method that I am using because as I said 80% is through referrals. So when I created my first website that customer recommended me to someone and it just continued like that.
When I do some outreach it is basically in groups that I monitor and when someone is looking for a website I just reach out to him/her.
I think this is kind of passive so I wanted to add a more consistent method of outreach
@@mauricelee7299 So basically, you just got lucky, because customers that refer you work non stop are exceedingly rare
I'm a web-developer. I need work
Bro i am a wordpress web developer and designer .
Do you have any oppertunity for me?
This is what you call "value" ❤️ Absolutely amazing. Hands down mate.
Great job Payton! It's like we're the same person: I run a web agency, I'm a sales guy, I'm from IDAHO originally, and I LOVE providing clients with VALUE before the hard sale (although there never has to be a HARD sale when you work it this way). Thanks for the video. Hope to cha sometime in the near future.
Hey, I'm a web developer looking for a switch. Let me know if you got am opening for a Frontend Developer specializing in React.js. :)
I'm Umar from Nigeria.
Thank you so much.. I'm new in the Web development industry and will be glad to have your assistance in mentirship and building clients
hahaha I also did door to door and made a lot of money, but I get stomach ache afterwards because I get super nervous on the phone more than meeting people face to face. Thank you so much for your input and technique which is really valuable.
Very helpful video :) I was feeling frustrated for not getting any client in marketplace but after watching your videos my confidence back again. Thanks Payton making this kind of videos for us. We want to see this kind of videos more. Love and Respect from Bangladesh 🙌
Am i the only one here who's checked the website he did the video for ?
Apparently they listened to his advice and redid the front page :) I am not sure whether he landed that client but the advices he provided where spot on !!
SUBSCRIBED ! Ding :D
Damn
Just seeing this in March 2022 and it's absolutely awesome. So helpful to this novice. Thank you, Payton! Prayers for your healing. 🙏🏻
Brother, thank you so much. I think he just saved my life.
The fear of approaching clients, right before the meeting, the call, the loom video.the fear of selling yourself
Thank you ! This is just amazing ... The right way to approach potential leads !
Imhotep Player thanks for watching!
Hey Payton, thanks for this amazing video, do you mind sharing the email template you use to send the video? Thanks in advance!
The Loom part is very inspiring and educational! Thanks!
These are little gold nuggets, thanks for making this.
I'm brazilian and work with this sells, I always try to sell without they see my face cause they loose a lot of confidence when realise I'm 16 💀
Thanks this is so creative. I can just give them the analysis of their broken website through a video. How clever. Thanks.
It really helped me as a beginner. Thank you so much you doing great work👍🏻✌🏻
I am starting my journey in d2d pest control and web design, so excited! Good to see somebody else doing what I am doing.
Absolutely love the intro…bring it back lol 🎉
Great video. Our biggest problem is that most of the prospects we find are already happy with using social media as their primary "Web Page, " which is not considered a website. After setting the client up with a dynamic CMS such as WordPress, it's a hard task to train them to post from their sites so the site is used as static and doesn't help them get the results they expect from posting to social media.
Greatest salesman in the world 😜😘
Haha thanks man! ;)
Amazing example of speech providing value and transparency to the prospect!
Am opening my web agency next month and trust me, I will pin this strategy on my heart. 🎯 thanks for sharing this premium content for free. Love from Nigeria 🇳🇬
How is it going?
Wow amazing strategy for people that are not saleszy… Thanks a million.
Yeah you can definately avoid cold calling mostly by having great leads. Thanks for the video👍
This was STUPID-AMAZING VALUE!!! Thanks so much! Gold!!!!
rebecca lewis my pleasure!
This is so fantastic, I've started doing this with prospective clients and they love it. What would be your approach for starting outreach with a client that doesn't have any website at all?
Thanks for watching and for the feedback! I also love to do this for people that have no website and crappy Google Reviews. I offer review services so I will dive in and show them how those reviews are negatively effecting them and drop a few ideas about how to increase those and what will happen when they do. This is also a great way to start a conversation!
How do find the prospects in the first place?
What are your results like? Reply rate to the email, call booked rate from the Loom, etc.
I REALLY love this idea! So, going to do this. THANK YOU! 😁👏👏👏
Amazing tips. This really provides a lot of value and shows you are serious.
Finally, a video that makes sense, Thank you.
This was a great video. I do not consider myself a salesperson and i have anxiety about talking to people but this is a great way for me to generate leads.
Sounds like a great idea? Was wondering how many of these do you have to do to be able to make a sale. Obviously more time is involved. So just wondering what your closing rate is based on using this method. Thank you! Great video btw!
Another dude using this tecnique said like 100 to 1 or 2
Great idea! Thank you for sharing! I´ll try this for sure!
I really like this idea and i think this could lead to new clients, thanks for sharing this method.
This is what I'm looking for. Thank you!
Wow nice speaking uh I'm so glad to hear this awesome words from u God bless u sir.
My number 1 struggle is my age, I'm a 15 yr old Indian Web designer, i have built many websites, but people wont give me work when they know my age for no reason :(
thanks your videos helps alot, one tip iam gonna give to
you is please keep some headroom in videos.
l don't have the energy to cold call. I just want to be helpful and have my clients hire me because they love my work, not because I pressured them unto hiring me. I love this idea! Not sure about the idea of pushing through the "no's". I think you should respect when someone doesn't want to talk. hmm... Anyways, thanks!
Kimberly Mom6 it’s hard as a designer to balance being persistent and not being salesy. But unfortunately, that is often times what makes the difference for me. Not being salesy, but being persistent in knowing I can help them and what I offer is worth their time and money. What we don’t understand is more often than not, when people say “no” it’s not because they don’t want our services, it’s because they have been trained to say “no” to delay the decision before they ever think it through. So you want to always acknowledge that they said “no” but find a way to navigate around that and back to a value point that will help them see why they should hire you. Hope this helps and thanks for watching!
Love it, so deep, so wrathful
I have tried something like this but never get any response or positive feedback - probably because I don't plan a followup call? I love the way you do the sample. I am going to try this again! Cheers!
Yeah the followup call is CRITICAL! I would recommend trying again with the followup call and just remember that quantity is key. This ain’t something that works 100% of the time or even 25% of the time. But IT WORKS and is far better than any other outreach strategy I have used. Good luck!
That's what I also expect, no response, no feedback and follow ups won't get answered either.
@@PaytonClarkSmith Great video - and I see they have made some changes with an Elementor site - but it looks like a local agency. Really like to know how you send the video/link - is it just via email? - How did the follow-up go?
"not 25%" - would you mind revealing your conversion with this technique? - Is it 20%? 10%?
Thanks in advance
I just want to name this .."Amazing"
Thanks! Hope it was helpful!
I wish i could subscribe multiple time. The demonstration at the end of the video made me click the subscribe button like 10time. 😀 Thank you and well done.
OK so here is my situation. I suffer from extreme anxiety and extreme PTSD. I went through a lot of stuff growing up to the point where I have to see a therapist because I am just not a people person. I am introverted and I just don’t do phone calls or any type of calling.
Once I get on the phone I choke up and I can’t say anything and my anxiety kicks in very strong. It got to the point where I quit graphic design web design years ago. The only client that I have had is my mom because she has a business and I wanted to help her and I figured that her website that I helped build could be used as part of my portfolio.
I have been fired from many jobs because I couldn’t sell anything. They give you a sales goal and if you don’t make a certain number of sales than you’re off. Right now I currently work as a supervisor at a call center because it’s the only job that I could find that does not involve me having to talk to customers on the phone and it doesn’t involve me having to sell anything at all. It sucks because I wanna break out of my shell but with everything going on mentally I just don’t know how that’s going to happen.
You said the people are not just going to fork over their credit card for you but my hope was that there could be a system out there that would automatically work so that people can find you and contact you directly. It has been so many years that most of what I learned in college I have forgotten by now. That’s not to say that with practice I can’t remember. Either way thank you for sharing this video I hope you are well.
I am a freelancer.. great thoughts for find Clint's. when I search on RUclips.. I think this is the best video for me . it will be help my ways
I'm just curious here ... Looks like they took your advises on board, but did you do the work or did they ask the agency who designed it initially?
Exactly..you'll give them advice and they'll ask other person to fix it in less amount.
@@magicofmotivation it also shows that you have options and the designer that made you the site is now walking on eggshells.
Either way you are the winner, if they took your services then great and if they just tell their agency to do so they get one service from you free but won't get your other quality services.
I doubt a good business won't appreciate your review and somehow they will pay you back somehow in the future, instead of worrying about these types of business try make your value better and clients will try to hire you
Great video! Thanks for posting.
Killer video!! Great info!
Thanks for watching! Hope it was helpful!
THIS is valuable.
Respect, gold video!
Great Video!!!, But I have one question, Do you send the video to them directly with no context, or do you ask for permission to do the review first and then you send them the video?
great video. started my agency earlier this year and trying to make it bigger in 2022 by hiring someone.
I absolutely love this!!!!
How do you send this video though. You send the link to a google drive with the uploaded video?
Hi,
Question, what does your engagement numbers look like as a percentage when making these personalised videos.
How many view it all the way?
How many respond to the message directly?
Also how long does it take you to prep this?
How many can you make in a day if uninterrupted?
Big thank you for the videos!
Super helpful,
I’m planning to set up a social media agency in London, initially focused on b2b LinkedIn marketing,
I am 100% going recommend anyone I meet who would be good for your service
Hii Peyton,
The video seems very much valuable to me I have a question, How do you show these videos to the client?
Do you email them?
Amazing content.. Really learn a lot.. Thanks so much
Payton are you an ENFJ personality type by any chance? Listening to you speak about having sales skills but not being pushy really resonated with me.
Gavin Ridgeway that’s a great question, I’m not sure! I might have to figure that out. Sounds like we are similar though!
@@PaytonClarkSmith Definitely! Ps I have really enjoyed your content thus far and your "How to Explode Your Website Customers in the Next 60 Days" report provides a ton of value. Thank you for all your hard work!
Gavin Ridgeway thank you for watching! I’ll keep it coming 👊🏻
Great video! What if they tell you they want you to make the changes but are using a different web service or had a developer make it for them? How would you move forward with that?
This was a great video. Thanks for sharing the strategy
Great idea!! Thanks Payton!!
Really great mate. Do you just share the video via LOOM? Or do you write them an email with video link?
Great job! Just a quick question. How many of those videos do you regularly send to people?
Hi! Nice strategy!
Do you just send the video without contacting them before? Or do you first ask if they are interested in a free audit for their website? Because I guess a lot of people don't even watch the video you send them so it could be a very time consuming process.
I have the same question, after 11 months there is no answer, because I suspect that 99% of the time they won't even respond to this strategy
Bruno Vincent Any news on how it went for you guys with the video strategy?
@@NotProfane trying to figure this out too... this strategy isnt very scalable and if the conversions arent good then it's not worth it
Hi Payton, how r u? Hope doing great. First of all thank you so much for this amazing content, God bless you dude!
I have a question, i´m thinking about starting my web desing agency right now, do you think it still a good venture?
I used to work with webdesing as freelancer 8-5 years ago, but then i´ve got my degree at law school, here in Brazil, it´s a good work, but it´s not what I love, got?
So that´s my question, thank you for your time and content, once again
Fantastic advice. Thank you!
That video is an amazing idea thank you
Great video, maybe I missed that part, but how do you send the video with out seems like it’s scamy, and normally people don’t click just like that, but great way !
Hey Payton, just wondering do you follow up with a phone call even when the video has NOT been watched? If so what do you say?
Awesome idea. Would you go a step further by creating a new example for the hero section and show it in your video? So the potential client can see some of a solution..
I personally wouldn’t. You will be sending out a lot of these videos just to get a conversation started. I think it would take up far to much time building a section of a site with the risk of them never opening the video. That’s a good option if it is a potential client you have already met and you know they are interested. These videos should be created in as little time as possible to reach as many people as possible just to create a first point of contact.
@@PaytonClarkSmith I was in insurance sales and you definitely hit the nail on the head. Still remember those days where the company dropped us at a business district and we had to go door to door.
Prospects answer: 'we already have an agency we trust and we are happy with the service', 'our son in law is also IT-programmer' (typical), 'we know we have to upgrade' but 'we have a lot of work and no time at this moment (I had a company that said this every year I called and now some other webagency made their website I was not happy), or 'we are just busy with the new website at this moment'... What if all companies have upgraded their website what would you suggest next ?
Do you need designer please hire me
Greatttt video!!
This is GOLD
God bless you.. Its a great video ...you are extremely helpful .. Thank you
Nice video, however, how would you pivot from little adjustments on a (non webflow site moet likely) to a webflow project?
djaya De Vries The whole point of this hour each method is just to get a foot in the door. Then the hope is to help them see that a complete new set up through you can help their business more than anything else. So for now just focus on helping them improve their site, regardless of what it is built in
Thank you for the great video, can make one that shows the conversation between you and the business owner, I want to know how you priced and sold your services.
Also what’s the process, from the first payment to the delivery.
This is genius. Thank you for the tip!
"I would have an 8 year old kid answer the door and they would tell me NO WE'RE NOT INTERESTED"
True that 😂 Great Video Payton
Solid videos; thank you
Good tip for sure! Thanks! But about your example video: you're going through the time of making a video just to suggest they hire you for a few hours to fix some issues? Why not suggest they get their website renewed? Doing outreach in hopes of getting a few hours of work is awful
It's about getting your foot in the doors mate.
Great video and tips! Question: do you use the free version of Loom?
And how do you get them to see the video?
Is it really good to end the video with "I'll jump on a call with your web designer to make these changes" ... ? Seems like you're willing to do free work and it leaves the CTA to you doing just that vs. acquiring the client to do a redesign/refresh/CRO
Just one question, how are you supposed to edit their website? are they gonna give you their adminitrstor credientials so you can go in and make the necesary changes?
I love this!
Great actionable advice with the example at the end, I think saying they'd double business and go so far as to say 10s of thousands of dollars is a bit of a stretch tho. I think just saying more business gets the point across and you don't promise something you can not guarantee.
Love the response you can give to the receptionist, because they will ask and try to block salespeople. I can tell you have incredible sales experience in the real world!
Jeffrey Carfagna works like a charm! Thank you, I appreciate it!
@@PaytonClarkSmith I've been in sales for years and for the past few years I've been dabbling with Webdesign and lost my job to the virus and I don't really see any security for working for someone else and I was wrestling with what to do and your channel help me tremendously!
Jeffrey Carfagna so glad to hear this! Hopefully I can keep bringing value to you in all my videos
@@PaytonClarkSmith great strategy! Very original! Can you tell me how you deliver the video? As attachements in the email or you host them on a cloud service? As attachments from strangers are considered not to be opened, right?
great video.. i'm wondering how do i get the contact info of cleints after going through their websites
Valuable video, after submitting feedback, will you redesign the website again with webflow, and how to modify it if it is not built by webflow in the first place
Do you have advice on what to put for the subject line of the entail email of the video breakdown ?
Yeah, what are you using?
Many Thanks. I did it the same way. I've had the experience that people send my video to their web designer to fix the problem. What can I do?
If they use WordPress, make them know the benefits of webflow on the long term, get a quick Lighthouse Report and if they got any issues, you can use that also.
Great advice! Could you share the email template that you send over with the Loom video? Also would be helpful to hear a call recording when you call the business after you send the email
Seah, that would be interesting!
Im putting this into work soon! Thanks Payton. What's the average respond rate you get when sending these?
Awesome video! Did they reach out after receiving this?
What subject line do you use when sending out the emails?
Thanks for this
This. Is. Genius.
Payton, I know the loom strategy is effective, but how are you sending these to leads where they will actually see them? in cold emails, linked in messages?
Jordan House both! But it’s important to know that most of the time they aren’t getting opened. But that’s OK because then when I reach out to those people in a phone call or message I can mention that video I sent as a point of conversation and so whether it gets opened or not at first, it will still be effective in starting conversations with them
@@PaytonClarkSmith that makes sense. Thank you.
Thanks for the advice bro =)
Wanna a know low key fun objection handler to the first no after a "Are you interested..." (variation)?
"Are you saying no because you really aren't interested or because it's just instinct today because I do it too!"
It's an open question and gives them the opportunity to validate their reasoning while simultaneously admitting you do it too (it's relatable). Watch all the insights come out or find out that the percentage is a small percentage of terrible people in the world. Don't worry, you'll be alright.
Great tip. But why go indirect when they still know this process is trying to a lead to a sale anyway? They probably know their website has some issues anyway. Why can't one be direct about their intention in the video while not displaying pushy sales person attitude?. Our amazing skill to pick issues aint matter to them that much as there is no shortage in skills in this industry. What they might be curious about is who is this person sending a video, who are his/her clients, did he/she sound honest and transparent. Other cheap options are Google re-marketing, social media pixel paid ads and Google my business if you specialise in web design.
