Great thread that goes over the 143A alternator upgrade. I'll be scouting 1996 - 1999 R129/W140 at the yard - for the M119/M120, looking for this alternator www.peachparts.com/shopforum/car-audio-multimedia/53236-installed-143a-alternator-my-w124-86-95e-class-photos.html
I found a rebuilt 120 amp and its more power than I can use. Its a good upgrade. Its a good idea to upgrade the harness to the alternator with larger gauge wire. I bought the wire and sheathing and it looks like factory now. Easy to do.
Di niente! 🙂 Agree completely on them being tanks. I have always been a W126 (SEC/SEL) and R129 (SL) guy, but I think W124 is my new favorite 😍 Kudos to my friend @alc11803 for helping me understand more about the OM603 diesel! 🙂I'll be keeping this one for as long as I can
Great!!! Always in need of inspiration to continue assembling our 300e, '92. It was need of much TLC, as we picked it up for $400 in '18, from our neighbor.
These are amazing cars - and that's a great price, wow! You can do it! 😃 It takes some elbow grease, but everything is fairly easy to work on. Parts can be more of a challenge sometimes - but you can always ping me if you need help finding something (I go to the junkyards every weekend). Do you have a project log anywhere?
@@bscliftonGreat! I sure will if I can't find a part locally, as over here in LA, not too often any w124s pop up, thank you! As far as a project log, I don't have one. I'll soon catalogue the 300e on my channel, but it is shown in my video titled 'The Driveway' with my other projects.
Lovely car with such a lovely color combination! I'm envy :P I also own a 1987 300D Turbo. One I actually found that was left to die outside an old man's house close to where I live, here in Portugal. I ended up buying it in order to save it! It's got quite a bid of rust close to the jack holes and in some other places but the interesting thing is that it does have a #22 head! As well as a swapped 5-Speed manual gearbox (a 717.435), which makes for quite a fantastic highway cruiser! It has around 450k kms and it's actually now close to getting out of a shop where it went to have some mechanical fixing, having a new set of monark injector nozzles installed, as well as some other random stuff :) I just wish mine had a palomino interior instead of a gray one :P
Gray is nice too! I wasn't so hot on Palomino at first, since the front seats faded a bit to pink... but it's really growing on me 🙂 It's a nice contrast with the Black. Thanks for the great comment and for sharing details on your 1987! With a 5-speed manual - wow, that's gotta be fun (subscribed!). And kudos for saving one - these are very special cars 😃
@@bsclifton It’s the best contrast! Along with medium red and also burgundy! Yes, Palomino is known to get pink over time with sun exposure. The phenomenon does actually have a name inside the whole Mercedes community. It’s the infamous “Pinkamino” 😅 You can paint it though! Just search for the “Vito’s Garage” RUclips channel. He has painted the palomino interior on a 190.
The best thing you can do for that car is get rid of the fan and add a pair of 12 inch mishimoto fans with a davies craig controller and upgrade alternator to 120 amp. My car always ran 110 in summer with ac. So I got rid of the fan. Added dual fans and alternator upgrade to have enough power. Now in summer with ac It runs steady at 87c. Plus without the drag of the fan its better on fuel and you can feel the difference in power. Its such a pleasure to drive now.
Alternator upgrade definitely in the works - will have to look at the fans. I'm in Arizona which gets pretty hot (up to 50c) but never had any problems with cooling. It's still mild weather out now, but the engine is always running just a hair over 80c Thanks for the suggestions 😃
Thanks! In this case, it came with the car - just took about an hour of prep and maybe 20 minutes to install 🙂 This is the 3rd or 4th one I've done. Makes working under the hood more enjoyable 😃
My favorite for buying genuine parts is www.mboemparts.com/ - they have great prices and good support. I also really like www.autohausaz.com/ - they're local to me. For older parts, I have an eBay store too. There are five good junkyards in the area and I hit up all the W126 and W124 and sell good parts I find 🙂

built like the proverbial tank. Here in Italy, some cabs are these, untold KM on them no doubt. Nice video, thanx for making it!!

love this car
Thanks for tuning in for updates! It's really fun to share the progress as this starts becoming a reliable daily driver 🙂
Thanks..

Question, what is a good website for Mercedes Benz parts?

Just ordered an alternator and tensioner pulley for 190e. Thanks
Awesome! Hope it goes well for you - here in Arizona it's the perfect weather for being outside and working on cars 😁
