A wonderful interview; so heart warming in so many ways. I knew Frank's deceased wife, Lynette, somewhat when we both attended the Oberlin Conservatory of Music in the mid to late 60's. And Frank is exactly right; she was gorgeous and a terrific musician. And the added gift, now of knowing how she influenced such a remarkable man and musician himself. My warmest wishes to his entire family.
Very quite possibly the very best yet, Peter. I'll never tell, but I absolutely believe you know the impact of the last five minutes of this interview on my soul. Thank you both so very much.
Frank never mentioned he studied with Leon Russianoff and his experience playing in the orchestra at Interlochen where he played the Mozart Concerto and was not first chair as a high school senior. Alan Lappin was the first chair that Frank could never defeat.
Robert Marcellus was George Szell’s clarinetist and a truly legendary player. Cohen, who succeeded Marcellus in 1976 never mentions Marcellus. Strange.
Thank you very much for this beautiful interview with Franklin Cohen. I enjoyed it greatly, and it means a lot to me.
We're always glad to hear from you, Oudtshoornify! Thanks for watching!
