    I can't believe I'm not paying for this info!! Matt thank you for your generosity. After watching this vid, I headed right out to the garage and tried keeping my weight back on my right foot towards the heel instead of ball of my foot, the results are amazing. I was crushing the ball on the bungie line! It unlocked my hip, cured me from snapping early and smoothed the sequence out. It's subtle but powerful. Thanks from a senior softball bum.

    My oldest's travel coach isn't a fan of leg kicks but makes this very same point about the back hip versus the knee and, at the club team's last indoor practice, I heard him say for the first time that he was most successful in college and the minors when his hitting was through his heels and the ball of his foot and not the ball and toes. Knowing it was ridiculous, I was just in Boston for a large academic conference and thought: "Man, it'd be great just to meet Matt and have coffee and a short conversation expressing my appreciation." Of course, there was no time and I didn't think of it until I was driving west out of the city on the turnpike...

    Never heard anyone suggest initially loading on back heel. My son complains of knee pain when loading so am going to try this.

    I know I'm late but how can I get into the hip with a leg kick like this? Is there any drills or certain feels I can go for? I feel so jumpy to the ball and my head is moving so much because of balance.

    Front Leg, hips question. I have a kid that hits pretty well off a tee, but during BP and Games his front leg never locks out. It is almost like he starts his swing very well but when he makes contact his hips have not turned far enough or his front leg has not locked out or straightened, but after he follows through they do. Any ideas, drills or ways to help him fix this? I know he is losing tons of power because of it.

    This is by far some of the best hitting talk I have ever heard in terms of in depth and detail keep up the good work! One question. Should your front shoulder be down when you're in launch position? I feel like with me when I keep my front shoulder down versus level it's night and day. I feel like with my front shoulder down I can swing up and not worry about popping up, and I feel like I am on the ball longer with my weight and path versus level where I foul it straight back or just miss balls a lot. Maybe it is just my swing who knows. Thanks again!

      Thanks! Most will have shoulder down a bit during stride and then it moves up as you launch and swing. Thanks for watching and commenting!

    What’s the initial move when he loads? For example for someone with not as big of a leg kick; is it a rock back or something else?

    He's got his lead hand thumb off of the bat right before he launches it. The thumb and the forefinger control the large muscles in the shoulder and He's obviously trying to keep that liquid.

    At some time J.Donaldson dropped his hands, with the barrel moving away from his body. Then as stride foot lands, he scap loads, his barrel comes back to the correct loaded position, developing max upper body vs. lower body torque. Is it wrong to have that early bat movement forward? In the video above he does not bring the bat as far forward. What does his current swing reveal re: pre-stride position?

    how about his back foot? Transferring his power/hip forward? What happens to his weight from the back heel going into his swing?

    • @AntonelliBaseball
      @AntonelliBaseball  7 лет назад

      The heel should almost get peeled off the ground as the back leg turns

    I'd throw you a like but I also like memes heh, but a good instructional vid. A drill that was fun back in the day was to finish your swing and pause on the complete follow through and then coach pushes your shoulder to make sure you are balanced.

    This is absolutely the worst thing you could teach any player. Good luck trying to be consistent especially when it comes to inside/outside pitches when you are pulling off on every swing! This is a fad swing that maybe 1% of baseball/softball players do. Take a look at the best baseball/softball hitters in the game past/present and none of them swing this way.

    • @paul-baseballcollector

      Interesting take! But maybe the 1% is right in this case!? The big leg kick really seems to generate a lot of power and it doesn't mean you won't be able to hit outside or inside pitches, as long as your head is still and your hands are back when you land your front foot.
