NOTE PLEASE READ**Due to the length and size of this video I had to save in a lower resolution. Sorry if the quality is not as good as usual.
You do good work
saludos..donde puedo comprar los engranajes FM-SW?
Excellent work, one thing that puzzles me is why Sony chose to make the VFO reversed.
Buddy, I'm sure you noticed the LED's give a harsh or spotlight effect. I've found that if you take some fine steel wool or very fine sand paper and scuff the lens up on the LED's. It gives a little better soft light bulb look. Good video. Thanks!
Yes. These should not do that. They were wide angle low profile. I did have to go back and scuff them up after burn in. Thanks
I really enjoyed the video Buddy. Great stuff. Thanks for sharing
Hey Peter!. Glad you liked it old friend. Boy it was a long one. Thanks for watching.
Great video! I'd enjoy more instruction on circuit board design & making. At least you got lucky on the Antenna tuner only being jammed with that broken wire tie. Plus could you share with me the name and brand of contact cleaner your use?
Hi Sam. Thanks for watching. The contact cleaner is CRC from Lowes. Really good stuff. Will do more on the circuit boards also.
those shafts are *pot* metal. get it? potentiometer...pot metal....ba dum tchee
LOL. Now that is funny right there!

Looking for the three gears .
Can you help to find ?
No worries video quality is fine. I’d watch your videos even if I needed a magnifying glass 😀 Another great video and lots of helpful information. Thanks for the fun Buddy 👍👍
Hey! Great Job Buddy! The PCB looks great too.
Hi Paul, good to see you, Thanks for the great comment! This one took about two months to complete. Man that is a lot of work in these units. Wish my video could have been well presented like yours. But I did my best. As always thanks my friend.

Thanks Hank. Glad you like that with the transfer. Very old school stuff.
Buddy
The care and attention you devote to this repair is outstanding. Truly a man that loves what you do and your gentle, respectful approach to each repair is obvious. This CRF 320 has many more useful years ahead of is because of you. You are amazing.
Mel
A great piece of history deserves the best treatment it can have. This was one of the most enjoyable repairs I have done in a long while. I really appreciate the opportunity to work on this one. Thanks so much for the kind words Mel.

Great Video. Would love to see more on making circuit boards using paint. Thanks for sharing and catch you next time...
Thanks Daryl. Will do my friend.
Just started watching your videos.(I've been through the first three)I'm thankful that someone is willing to teach this as there are no schools in my area that offer such. I was wondering what your view was on the future(or non-future) of being a cb tech or even just an electronic technician for that matter?
Hi Mathew and I am pleased you watch these videos. I often wonder about the future in this type of repair. We are a dying breed I am afraid, This is why I do the videos I make and share them freely with the public. In hope that younger folks will get an interest in vintage repair. This world needs more techs willing to learn and keep the hobby alive.
@@TheRadioShopthank you so much for your willingness to teach your skills and expertise and pass it on to the new generation 🤲🏽💚
You did not answer me question please
Buddy; Very nice understandable video. That's a really nice rig you worked on here. Seems like you gave it your best as all the projects you work on. Ps great suggestion you gave me to clean corrosion from terminals using vinegar. Thanks much. Angelo.
Thank you Angelo. I am very glad that it helped. Thanks also for the kind words my friend.
Very nice job Buddy - enjoyed the video and also really interested in the way you made that circuit board. I might try that myself sometime. 73, Bill
Thanks Bill. It was a fun repair. Will do the circuit board video in the future.
Cómo he llegado aquí?
Thanks for the video, I also watched it in one sitting hi, I enjoy the way you approach your repair jobs and your method of work. I would like to have a go at making my own PCBs using the method described regards Mike
Thanks for the kind words Mike. I will do a video on making the circuit boards later on. I do need to make one for the 747.
Love the video Buddy; and I made it all the way in one sitting. Please do the video on circuit board layout tools I need all the help I can get. 73's Buddy KG7SSB
Thanks Dale and glad you were riding along with me on this one. It was a long repair. @ months. I will do a video on the circuit boards.
hello my friend
i love the way you explain thinng and i learn a lot of your videos and thank you for that....
i belive you want a better video quality...you deserve this...
best wishes best regards to you and your family
Thanks very much Nik for the kind words. I am pleased that you liked the video
@58:46 please start using some good quality moisturising hand cream. Your hands are your most valuable tools and it's not good to see tools that are not looked after.
Thanks for your concerns. I have a very dry skin problem during the cold months.
With the new leds there is a concentration of light in the centre with very little at the edges. Have you tried rubbing the leds with sandpaper to give a more diffuse light?
The LED's used are defused lens. Sort of frosted on the ends. Owner was happy anyway.
Hi Sir, Greetings from Prague, Czechoslovakia. Love your video something very relaxing and soothing to wathc right before bedtime. Question for your Sir? I own a Crf 330 one with the tape deck. Well, bout a month back the digital display started flickering and then last week it went out finally and has not come back on. Analog which i fixed with by changing that round spool gear works fine. I get the stationgs but I miss my red light. Can I ask you what that might be before I pull it apart, or carry this beast around the corner to the radio shop. Too bad you are not right around the corner I have another and I would drop it off with you. The guy here well he mainly only works on Czech, Russian and German stuff. His jaw dropped that day when I cam in the door with this. I'm probably the only one in the country with one of these. I hauled it over here from the Netherlands. Anyway hope you are well and I'll watch your video for the 4th time soon. Greetings from central Europe.
Hi and thanks for the video!
Few years later it may be a bit late to ask but,
i purchased the exact same replacement gears you have and i cant just press it on without damaging the gear's teeth. Did you use some kind of tools to do that or did it just slide in nicely for you?
1:04:00
It takes a bit of work. Make sure you clean off any flashing on the gear. They will go on.
@@TheRadioShop Hi I am anew subscriber to your eBay radio channel.
I recently purchased a CRF 330 k and need 3 nylon gear for above receiver.
Do yo retailer in UK where I could order this not original parts ?Thanks f for your help
73's.
Beautiful radios, bad metals and plastics in Asian radios, another example is the Taiwan built Zenith. No comparison to the quality of the US D7000Y made by Zenith in Chicago, good work friend.
Many thanks for the video!. After a year I am resuming the work in one!
Thanks
Buddy You Da Man Great video Thank You Great to learn something new every day
Much appreciated Wayne.
Wow, popcorn, redwine and beer, perhaps have to pause it, and see the rest tomorrow :)
Yes it is a bit long. And took ovre two months to complete.
Your first full length feature film. ;) Nice work. 73
Yes, a long one. I should get an Emmy for that one lol.
Buddy, can you ask the owner from where he got the gears? Mine are gone too. Like to hear! Thanks in advance. Ruud from Holland
Petra Hensbergen
Not sure where he got them but you can get CRF gears here. www.shapeways.com/product/PZSZFC4W6/sony-crf-320-crf-330-am-or-fm-tuner-dial-gear-5-5m
I think Mike just let us know.
Thanks for the link Mike.
The Radio Shop
No problem. I ordered from them when I rebuilt my 320.
That old foam can become corrosive as well.
Very true
Where do you get parts for this Sony?
Most of it is standards components. Custom parts are unobtainable,
The link to making circuit boards in paint cannot be accessed. Is there another source for this useful tool?
I see. I will see if I can upload on my site.
Do a video on paint PCB design please
It is in the making. Thanks
i dont know if it happened in recording or transcoding but there are a few pretty long sections that are a mess of artifacting. just thought you might want to make sure theres nothing weong with your camera.
See first post above. I had problems with the editor during the save of this video. Had to revert to a lower resolution.
The Radio Shop i did see that but this isnt a resolution issue. the majority of the video is completely watchable but sections auch as 1:30:00 are a mess.
I understand what you are saying. The un-edited video is completely fine. Remember, parts of this video are 2 months old now. That is how long it took to repair this unit. The problem is my video editor can not handle a file this large. Makes it start producing artifacts like that you are seeing. Until I get a better editor I am going to keep the videos under an hour or so.
The Radio Shop well i for one very much enjoyed the long video!
Thanks. I will make sure I have better software for the next long one :-)
Looks like I need to get some popcorn, set back and watch the full feature film. :-)
Yeah it is a long one. Paul did all the electronic repair is his 320 video. Mine consist mostly of mechanical repair.
Hope you enjoy
The Radio Shop
So this is when the old desoldering machine died on you. You definitely got your money's worth out of it.
Now that you did this receiver you will probably be doing a lot more of them. It doesn't take long for word to spread. Will have to rename to something like The CRF Shop. ;-)
No, I did not cringe when Buddy used the box-cutter to open the power supply...well, maybe just a little! Great video Buddy, thanks for the extra effort to make the episode as you you did the restoration as well. 73 - Dino KL0S
Yep, was right in the middle of rebuilding the supply wen it crapped out. But you guys saved the day!
You know Dino I was thinking of you when I grabbed the box cutter. I was going to say turn your head Dino! I will say after two months that was a long repair!, One down 3 more to go. Different models. Thanks for stopping in as always.
You have to be part electronics technician and part watchmaker to work on that radio Buddy. You also need patience of a saint. You have to wonder what Sony was thinking about when they designed that thing and what their intended market was. I think they only made it for two years and the price was over $2K. Great job on it. I now know enough to know that I don't want one. 73 Doug.
