This is a notoriously difficult island to land on, as are many small islands with too-short runways, due to swirling air currents around them so that they have to drop in and crab right up to the instant their wheels touch! Thanks for the video, crabbing in is usual fare for my home airport, but I have a 5,000' runway and these videos are always interesting from which to learn! (I understand there is special training for landing at Funchal Airpor, although the runway is a tad over 9,000 feet, it looks shorter than that here, but then, an Airbus needs some room,-- it looks like the runway is sloped up a bit or is that an optical illusion!!)
On this approach normally the airplane does a 180 turn over the sea with landing gear extended this airport gives a challenge to the pilots do to cross winds and not a very long runway considering standarts
We have been a few times to this beautiful island. Last time as we landed pilot said we are first ones down. All the other planes still going round and waiting. Arrivals EMPTY

like one landing was really hard, plane hit hard on right wheels, t9 be honest I would probably go into brace position if my plane would be going sideways.
