In first question you subtract true difference but in second question you added true difference why ?

In first question, the correct staff reading at B should be such a value which would be close to the observed staff reading at B. Hence the true difference is subtracted.
In second question, the correct staff reading at A should be such a value which would be close to the observed staff reading at A. Hence the true difference is added.
