Bireli thank you for existing in our world. Because you are OUT this world ! Phenomenal!
A few years after this Bireli toured with Jaco Pastorius in a power trio performing electric music, classic rock, psychadelia and jazz improvisation. I saw them 2 nights in a row in a bar in Phoenix, Arizona. So Cool ! I had no idea who the guitarist was or of his Gypsy Jazz roots. Fifteen years later I bought a double CD set of a European set of this trio but still did not know anything of Bireli. I read an interview with him about 5 years ago where he talked about that phase in life and I was like: "OH" !!
What was it like seeing Jaco play at that time? Did he have it together (so to speak)? I wonder what influence Jaco had on this "kid" at the time. Jaco was the greatest.
He never got the tuning just right but SO WHAT! He was born to play that guitar. What a master even at such a young age! He still is.
It's actually very inspiring because I struggled with tuning my guitar since I was a kid and a teen. People love to talk about talent like you're born with it and everything comes easy with it. In reality is just sheer will and discipline put in practice every day for years and years
The spirit of Django was in that young man that day, for sure.....
This guy not only makes music, he IS music. My greatest repect for this talent!
I don't know what is the reaction of Bireli himself when watching this video, but for me it is such a wonderful story to see he was able to dedicate his entire life to music and to guitar, and to actually made it a lifestyle/work for himself. This is so inspiring !
Birelli lagrene .django reynardt les yeux noirs ..fantastique so michto
passion and chops ... full house, awesome sound stage ... and a young prodigy at the start of the 80's ... impressive ...
better sounds than many tuned guitar..
to play like that at that age is amazing to play like that in front of an audience at that age is simply phenomenal, truly one of the 20th/21st centuries greats. thank you for the post.
I saw him play when he was 19 in Harrisburg, PA and we were all blown away
The quality of the recording is so good, could be yesterday. Bireli, we love you man.
How can someone dislike this? This is a young kid! Some adults will never ever play like that.
Some? Most...
+22fret all! :-)
:-)
+22fret that's exactly what I thought then I saw your comment. ha!
+Camilo Velandia Some adults???? How much of them????
:O Lagrene is a breathtaking heir of the Reinhardt tradition, that old mixture of profound Envy, Love and Respect burns inside each time I hear him play
That last number was the sickest thing I think I've ever seen on a guitar.
See kids!?
THAT'S what a child prodigy is like!
True childhood prodigies are very rare - no matter how many times a week another new one appears on TV reality shows, etc.
This video just displays the skills, time and practice put in by Bireli from childhood. I just feel like sitting and watching him play all day. Thankyou for sharing. Enjoyed every bit!!
I can hear the 46 years old Bireli in there :)
I like this -- rough edges and all, starting out without tuning and all. What a motor running inside that kid!
what a delightful gypsy jazz sprite he was.. what a pleasure to watch this!
I don’t think the people knew what a legend they were watching at that moment.
hell just stumbled over this vid I WAS THERE - this. indeed. is the good side of the internet!!!
I remember when he first appeared on the scene and the sensation he made. Awesome!
Sehr gut. Ein. Wunderkind. Sehr. Schön. Bravo. Bravo.
Me too!
The guitar is bigger than him..
This is natural Talent. Love this style of Jazz

Incredibile
birelli is great. i can only imagine how insanely awesome to see django playing live
i would like to understand how he could be so good with only 14 years old. Theres a lot of talent and things out of this world but how did he learn all this.
Humble to the bone..this intimacy and proficiency combined make this a mesmerising thing to watch...
Magnifique , un surdoué ....
You never grew. We love you Biréli.
Django lives!
Wonderful!
Magnifique Birelli !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! c'est un don de dieu
Astounding! So amazing even at that age.
He was and IS unbelievable. Must have had unlimited inspiration and also guidance to achieve that level at such a young age.
Fabuleux Biréli Lagrène !
I'm in Awe.
Es grandioso lo que hacía tan jovencito.
We all have talents from God. Bireli may have been a little more blessed than the rest of us guitar players and yes all you GUITAR NAZIS HE MADE MISTAKES on a GUITAR OUT OF TUNE GROW UP! He did and became one of the finest Guitar players on this planet.
14 years old. On stage. At Montreux. Alone on a chair. Are you kidding me?? And all these years later, we know it was decidedly not a fluke or flash in the pan. IMO the most gifted and versatile guitarist on the planet.
J'y étais !!! moment inoubliable !!
If you can make an out of tune guitar sound awesome, well FANTASTIC!!
bireli is a badass shredder gypsy jazz
No, he’s way much more than that, with unusual versatility of playing not only gypsy jazz but straight ahead jazz and fusion at an extremely high level. He somewhat reminds me of the legendary Bola Sete, who was actually even more versatile.
BIRELI LAGRENE UN SACRE BON GUITARISTE "GITAN" DU TALENT PUR POUR MOI "GADJO" RESPECT👏
... and then two very brave men with guitars walked onto the stage. :)
Seeing some mancuso clips dropped my memory of this particular little character
Wonderful...thanks for sharing!
incredible playing !
¡Grande, grande, grande Birèli, grande!!!
i guarantee few people on the planet can do this and i wonder if even django was this good at the same age. django reincarnated to birelli! holy shit! mistakes? so what.
Django had two fingers disabled so of course he had to reincarnate to try it with all.And Birelli was born....
wonderful!!! Tank you uploader!!
thanks for the upload....a jewell!!
no comment:)
Crazy talent! What a genius!
Wow! To have to mature in front of an audience in this way. A repetoire so demanding. Like playing the twelve Caprices as an intermediate player. Django was so unique not only in talent but in circumstance. Tough shoes to fill.
I'm glad Bireli hung in there.
Birelli u The great
truly a gifted person,, only gifted people can have this much real, inborn ability! Something within their early development is different than 98% of all people! But,,, hey,,, they give us pleasure,,, so,,, thanks to God for gifts,,,,,! ;^)
Trop fort
15 years old ! RESPECT
Bireli is a great guitarist and bass player too.
SHEESH!!! BRAVO!!
i loved his mystery pacific cover
This is already on RUclips, but thanks for posting a much higher quality version - much more enjoyable. 5 stars.
Maestro!
impressionante!
He's fucking awesome plays with passion hope he is still playing
Yes he still plays, and made some notable recordings with Jaco pastorius in the 80s
Ne nasce uno ogni 100 anni come Bireli
Imagine 'Guitar player' trying to tab this to what most of the 13yr old target audience who struggle with barring an F chord would think? haha Django forever well done Biréli!
My Dad saw him in Stuttgart around this time
monstrueusement génial !!
me too, insane! :-D
I bet even most well known jazz-guitar heroes aren't capable of playing this!
romaneberle You are right! 99.9 % of the people commenting on this don't get it at all.
omg ty for that
well,,in response to the many "jazz nazi" comments.,he was a kid , and visibly nervous. I am assuming this was possibly, his first crack at stadium level performing. Either way, he kept going and ended up being unbeatable in his field.....however,yeah the guitar would have sounded better tuned!! Check him out a year older ,playing the Antebbe festival...huge improvement!
You are totally right my friend! I'm amazed by the number of people who are attacking a kid because the strings are not collaborating with him that night! Well he shortly managed to become Bireli Lagrene while all these hypercritical people are still nobody with their perfectly tuned guitars!
@@Yourmom-dd3fh Too bad "Your mom" wasn't! LOL
@@BobLantz of course, she was jewish, top KEK top Rekt
DavideSchachterJazz not collaborating 😂

No Comments. Excuse my! Thans for music... Guntars Melbardis...
Bravo
Oh, Richard. I thought we already talked about this fellow...
Great!!!
wow!
Born to be one of guitar masters...no doubt when you see this 15 year old boy playing with guitar like a toy even tho the tuning wasnt good....dang What am I doing lol
pretty amazing how such a youngin could have so much technical skill and musicality..very rare
come back 5 more years then we'll see what happens...although the performance was very confident and he can tune his own guitar!! thats a crowning achievement by itself
Maravilha emocionante.
Ahhhhhhh I'll never be that good!
Un génie ♫♪♫♪
Jeez. What a monster talent...
yes...it's safe to say that he's improved a bit in the last 30 years ;-)
Wow!
Merci jeune virtuose
