Pied Oystercatchers are indeed hard to see, whereas Sooties are often spotted near Batemans Bay and nearby coastline. Until a few months ago I'd only spotted them briefly, on the Moruya River estuary, but a pair are now resident within a kilometre of Batemans Bay town centre. These are the two see actually catching oysters. This may actually be the same pair seen in the video at Durras.
I've seen them open pipis like they were nothing.
