Have you seen the original Rambo? The first one? It's a legit drama about a Vietnam veteran with post traumatic psychological symptoms, not just some action flic. This was never meant as a series, but the original was successful, so they turned it into an action series.

...years ago i wrote a script to make Rambo new and fresh again...a Rambo Prequel! We have yet to see how bad ass Rambo was during the war and the missions he went under Col.Trautman. My version is to star Milo Ventiglia as young John Rambo when he was in Vietnam with the story taking place with a 'Saving Private Ryan into' with Stallone at a military cemetery visiting the grave of Col. Trautman....with flashback dialogue of what we heard in Rambo 1 - You don't seem to want to accept the fact you're dealing with an expert in guerrilla warfare, with a man who's the best, with guns, with knives, with his bare hands. A man who's been trained to ignore pain, ignore weather, to live off the land, to eat things that would make a billy goat puke.
A prequel is pretty much the best way to make another entry in the series tbh. And while I do think Rambo V: Last Blood was dissapointing as a series finale, the ending seemed pretty definitive in regards to being the end of Rambo's life, so it would be pretty silly to try and come up with a Rambo VI starring an 80 year old Rambo who somehow survived getting shot up at the end of the last movie.
