When do your kids go back to school? Or are you heading back to work, starting a new study? Let's hear your own best tip! Bonus if you don't have to spend money! said the Canny Scot! 😍
In Chicago Public Schools, the kids start on the 22nd of August. I get to go back on the10th! We used to go back after Labor Day (the first Monday of September). I'm a bit stressed, but was able to have a vacation this summer so that helped recharge my batteries!
Kids went back to school last Friday in Alabama. Hey don't forget accessories. Easily overlooked with boys, does your belt still fit? I had 2 boys, so that's a standout for me. Diane, thanks from this grandma, for helping these already overwhelmed moms to remember all these things. You have a great week! 🙂📚✏️
If you haven’t already, begin shifting to “school year” bed time. Generally, start going to bed 15 min earlier each night until you reach ideal bedtime. May be a bit late for some to start. Phew … summer went fast!
My kid’ll be back to school in a couple of weeks but we’re lucky here in Sweden - school supplies and lunches are all provided for free by the school and we have no uniforms. I’ve washed her backpack from last year and she had a growth spurt early last spring: the stuff we got for her then still fit. I’ll be back for the last year leading up to my bachelor’s degree at the end of this month. Usually teachers try to base the courses off of scientific articles provided for free by the university so I rarely spend more than 1000 SEK on (second hand) literature per semester. Yup. We’re super lucky in Sweden.
How wonderful! A Back to School without a HAUL of all new expensive stuff. LOVE THIS, Thank You! Thought I'd share something sweet with you, I recently asked my oldest if she needed anything, for back to school. She said, "YES! I really could use a light green marker, my fine tip one is empty now."
I got into the habit when my boys were small (they r now 27,25&21) as we emptied their bags at the end of the year, anything still in good shape went into the "back to school tote" so we knew where to find their stuff for the new year! Also, as supplies went on clearance (or a great sale price) I'd pick it up & add it to the tote for "shopping" for the next school year! I saved so much money that way & had enough for my girls to continue the tradition (they r 16& 8)! I only spent under $10CAN for my high schooler last year! I'm still amazed! The tote has come in handy for hubby & I too when needing supplies for work or volunteer activities! Thx Diane for all u do! A bright spot in my day for sure!
At the end of the year my kids were required to turn in leftover school supplies to me. I stored them until the start of the new school year when we would then begin shopping for school supplies in our old reserves! Any supplies that needed to be bought we tried to get in multi packs so we could split between them. Amazing how much we saved! As for uniforms our kids were often able to pass down to a sibling or cut pants that were too short into shorts. My last child graduated almost ten years ago and I am still using her old spiral notebooks for my journal writing!
Kids go back to school on the 17th. We have a few drawers and part of one cabinet where we store leftover school supplies that are in good shape from the end of school several months ago. When the new school supply list came out last month, I "shopped" from our existing supplies and then put the remaining needed items on the shopping list. I have found that during this process, it is a good time for us to also go through household pens, markers and highlighters to make sure they all work and to purge any ones that don't work or have dried out. New ones are on sale right now if we needed to restock.
Had my routine done including children's lunch today. Yay me! I was feeling very anxious last night, more than the kids even 😜, after homeschooling them for so many years in 🏴 and now starting school in 🇩🇰 😱but having my list really helped. Thanks again 😊
I started school July 4th. I had to make sure that we have off for three weeks in September… (our vaca) Diane, you are so motivational. Thank you so, so, so much for doing this. You have no idea how much your channel helps me. I know I said this before but I mean it. When I feel like I’m losing control, this is where I come to catch myself.
I'm starting back at work part time with my 6 month old spending some time at daycare. I'm developing some new morning and evening routines to make life easier on work days and I generally feel quite confident I can manage since I've been taking your advice for several years Diane. My main challenge is being organised with my own snacks and lunches
I dont know when my last of 6 children begins school! 😅 Ready to listen to you, Diane from Copenhagen! Indiana, USA P.S. A motto: SOMETHING is better than nothing.
Thank you for this - I'm staring a new job next week and we're moving out of the family house (of 23 years!) next week also, hopefully! So this has brought some calm. I've packed my bag, started packing my room up, and got some outfits ready for work so there's less to stress about 😊 Excited but nervous! xx
I am back after a two week holiday - son’s wedding and cross-country road trip. So much needs to be done, but I am starting with decluttering wedding items, swish and swipe, LOLs, and maybe half of a Home Blessing. I can finish tomorrow if not today. It would have been easy to be overwhelmed after being gone, but I am staying focused with mini-assignments. Pot of veggie soup made for lunches this week and so on. Thank you for the inspiration!
The other year my 16 yo had shot up so got organised age 17 trousers sorted, didn’t realise his arms had a growth spurt too, day of back to school puts blazer on and it’s half way up his forearms, lol 😂 shoes always got us last minute in the morning too, not seen since hols began and somewhere under everything else 💕
Diane, I am relatively new to your channel and I want you to know that I love your videos, your optimism, and your style. We're the same age and you look amazing and Fresh! :) Thank you for being our cheerleader.
We keep clearing and minimizing on our little homestead here in Montana. I have busy on my Zone 2 kitchen week. I jumped ahead and went through my fall clothing. Tossed some worn summer items. We are good but grown son needs a wardrobe restock.
My kids went back to school today. My 2 boys are in 7th grade and my daughter just started Kindergarten 🎒💝 My youngest daughter starts Development Pre-K next Tues.
Kids enjoy their second vacation week in south germany. The youngest start their first class in the middle of September! !!! I don’t like that, going into the Alps or to the north see in the end of August is often living out of summer😢
Diane I think someone has copied your Instagram account, I got contacted by someone that looked like you, even using your pictures then I remember before you mentioned on a video you don't message privately. Please check for your safety

Happy Monday! No back to school season for me (empty nester), but a good reminder to shop my home for the projects I've got coming up.
It’s August 1, 2024, and you’ve inspired me to apply these tips to pre-organizing the month ahead. Thank you!

We are in the middle of our school year, here in Australia. I do use a very similar system to you when we have our big break in January.
I do love your videos before big events such as back to school…. I find them very calming but also inspirational. It all makes sense, thank you 🙏🏻 xxx

Great video with a great message! Bought new shoes for DD for back to school, but that's all she needed.
Hi, Diane, welcome back! Haha, how I know the black hole… I'm a late starter, but getting better! Love, Monika❣
Great ideas. People need to locate clean and repair all their stuff. Buying new stuff is not good. Save money.
I so agree, Virgie! Glad you enjoyed the video!
