What a rock star this man is. Loved his speaking cadence. It made me pay attention to all his excellent information. I learned so much from him. Thank you!
I found this to be so much more educational than the twelve videos I watched before this one combined, and those videos showed visuals and hands on video. But, still, I learned far more here. Thank you!
Thank you, Mr. Johnson! This was extremely helpful to me. I have 4 horses and I collect their piles twice a day. I now have a much better idea how to put that to good use. I like the windrow idea. Previously, I had one giant pile (which you could see from space) which I would periodically spread on my hay field. I look forward to a better method.
May I add this advice, the inclusion of biochar to this system. A biochar base for leaching. This captures nutrients, filters leaches. Also as a cap. Captures released nitrogen and makes outstanding filter.. Very good instruction.
I am from the UK, and don't have horses but do compost a little of this from a local horse riding stables with the contents from 5 large compost bins and worm bins. I found this gentleman's video very interesting, well put over and thank you for such a good informative video. Hope you do many more and look forward to such a time. Thanking you so much.
I am currently using this method with one difference, A snow blower! I am loading the manure into a plastic bedliner pulled behind my lawn mower. When the bedliner is full I move it to the pile and use a 2-stage snow blower to shoot/mulch the manure onto the pile then cover with composted manure from front of the pile.
That is a great idea! Saves your back from a lot of shoveling. I have seen a couple of videos where a snow blower was used for spreading mulch and wood chips. Here is one example: ruclips.net/video/V0WL0cfg8pA/видео.html
I agree and compost my horses manure for my garden along with my chicken coops and garden extras which is small compared to the horse stalls. Thanks great info.
I use pallets to hold my horse manure , 4ft tall and 4 ft wide , so far it’s 30ft long with a compost cap with a v-shape trench on top to give the rain enough time to enter the manure.
Thanks for the useful information....I just found a source of free horse manure and so I'm back in the composting business after a 3 year hiatus. Naturally the manure is mixed with wood chips and unfortunately I can't seem to get my hands on the coffee grounds as you recommended. What I do have is about 10 bags of fresh grass clippings (it's yard waste removal day tomorrow so many were available.) Sooooooo....I have leaves, a few kitchen scraps, grass clippings, and the manure/wood shaving mixture. Should I mix all the components together or use the layer method? If layering, what should go on the bottom layer (green or brown)? I don't have any available compost for capping so hopefully the tarp will suffice. Please answer as soon as you can....and thanks again ..........
its obvious he doesn't have chickens yes when they poop its liquid but when you gather it it is extremely dry and repells water so it must be mixed with a lot of carbon --leaves, cardboard, grass, hay. and of course keeping it moist
I compost dead ☠️ chickens 🐓, if you see them walking down the streets that’s my fault 🤦♀️ I messed up I probably forget to do the satanic chants over their body’s sorry 😞
This guy is a natural teacher. I got more out of that 25 minutes than all day surfing the web. Thanks!
