Can anyone explain the pleasure to be got from diving into freezing cold, pitch dark water in dangerous depths and passages so narrow as to entrap individuals - because it sure beats the hell out of me...?
🤷🏽♀️ Humans ?
'there is a rumor i heard, there is a treasure deep in the cave' some sort of thing lol
Exploration, being the first (first in the world, first Norwegian, first British, first woman,…) or one of the few.
Climbing is more my thing and carries it's own obvious risks and dangers, although I have done a bit of diving and caving but absolutely won't combine the both.Like yourself I don't see how instinct is so easily ignored.
Just a bunch of dumb, rich, sheltered assholes, imo. They potentially risk many lives every time they go down but they don't care. Screw everyone ima go explore the rabbit holes.......🤦♂️
The absolutely first lesson in technical diving (which encompasses all types beyond standard recreational scuba and includes trimix, wreck, cave and rebreather) is that you MUST be prepared for the possibility that you may have to let someone die in order to save yourself. If you can’t stomach that risk, you shouldn’t be doing it.
There’s also a saying fk around and find out. Yeah i think that’s what it’s called nowadays.
@JohnnytNatural it IS part of the training. The second lesson following the first that I outlined is that panic kills. After introducing that concept, you’ll read a litany of horror stories where people die that didn’t have to die. Then you’ll be introduced to the concept of redundancy and why you always have backups (this is sort of true in recreational scuba, but becomes much more serious in technical training).
Diver training absolutely does have training scenarios meant to teach you to control your breathing (and thus your emotions).
@JohnnytNatural I don’t know how to answer that question?🤷 Why does someone who has learned to drive a car have an accident they could have avoided? That’s what panic does. That’s why it’s so dangerous. Some people are more prone to it than others. That’s why the lessons are structured the way that they are - they literally tell you not to do this thing and get another hobby if you can’t get super comfortable with the danger. And every year that goes by adds more stories to the litany I described above. It’s just… human nature.
@JohnnytNatural also, please forgive that I can’t speak to the details here. I don’t remember the particulars of this incident and don’t much feel like re-watching it. But to your point, planning a dive and following the plan is a big part of the training from even the very first open water dive recreational classes. And panicking and/or inadequate planning or deviating from plan (often due to panic) are the root causes of a lot of accidents.
@JohnnytNaturalI just have to say you're incredibly ignorant. They didn't panic easily. 99% of humans would panic just by being in such a dangerous situation as cave diving is. How many people do you think could handle seeing a close friend drown right in front of their face, and still have the discipline to stay calm and continue a difficult 11+ hour decompression period? You should see the documentary on the recovery mission. These are the kind of people with the psyche to be special force soldiers, astronauts and so on. Some of them were firefighters, some were engineers.
" Who all wants to go possibly die with us today? " Thats the honest translation of how each caving trip begins...
It’s freezing, iced over, gets even colder when you go deeper, you have to cut an ice sheet into the water just to go in and it lightly freezes over before you even get back, you have to make a pact with your spouse that you promise you’re not going to ever leave anyone behind… To normal people, these are clues, that maybe this isn’t something to do…
Normal people are afraid of their own shadow. These are adventurers. The kind of people that go out and hunt, explore, and discover the world around them to share with the rest of us. To them these are just obstacles to be overcome.
Not to mention spending hours getting back up because of decompression.
Not an expert or anything just questioning. If the top of the water is iced and needs to be cut, but the water below is still a liquid, wouldnt it be warmer or slightly warmer below the ice even when they continue deeper? Either way, sad story but some people are just built different despite the known dangers
@@PseudoAccurateseems rather pointless if u ask me. They arent hunting for anything useful and their exploration couldn't land a single benefit.
@@PseudoAccurateand theybleft their wives and family for.what? Normal people are not.scared . They are not stupid
The best thing about caving and cave diving is you don't have to do it!
I love those comments 😂
I’ve never heard an “And they lived happily ever after” cave diving story.
Would you click on a video of a successful but boring cave dive? Mundane does not equal views
I’m in a binge watching all of your videos because there is absolutely no one who is making quality videos like you but I needed to make a comment so the algorithm picks it up and puts this video infront of more people. Vortex your channel is awesome man. Great work sir!

6:10 I was hoping to hear something like, "Instead, he suddenly wondered 'WTF am I even doing?' and decided to quit doing this crazy shit forever."
I just realized that this may be a way to a perfect murder. Take diving courses, then convince the person that didn’t dive in their live and you want gone to go diving with you confuse them underwater and leave them alone. Well you both may die but that’s the risk you will have to take.
That's always my thought, when watching these. Someone just "left behind or vanished" when other/others returned. Im curious about how many of these accident trough out the history have actually been murders
Stop it. You’re crackin me up
What you just realised is actually in many people's minds. Nobody will ever convince me to go there. They will have to find a more creative way to kill me.
It happened. I forgot the names, but some husband killed his wife like that.

If I were the first diver, I would’ve turned back cause I could definitely see the second team panicking at seeing the other diver with no explanation
There was no room to swim past his dead friend and no time to try and make room by untangling the equipment.
@@BetteBanaani didn’t one of the divers swim past the dead diver to the other side though…?
@@MayTheOddsBeInYourFavorYes, but it took him 15 minutes to squeeze through. Grönqvist had already spent a long time at the bottom and any extra time might be deadly, so while it might have been possible, it wasn't simple and probably was not worth the risk.

Just trust everyone
I feel like continuing on was stupid. Why continue to go deeper when one person already died. It's time to call it a day IMO ffs...
Call me heartless but four people risking their lives to retrieve dead bodies is crazy

@@jusbus92 I’ve been quiet for 4 weeks. Are you brainless?..
What a waste of precious life, and for nothing…😢
How can people have 'fun' doing this when death is always seconds away?
You just said it. Its the death part that makes it thrilling. To you and me, this kind of thing is a hard pass. But to others, thats living to them. Theyre built different. Going home after a 9 to 5 drinking, watching, playing, is nothing to them. Thrills from sports or other activities doesnt hit the same. I imagine being one with nature, just you and your thoughts, and the feel of letting go of control not succumbing to fear is thrilling.
Its the same as people who climb high places and hang off the edge with no safety equipment. Its just their way of actually living. Closest thing for me is riding a motorcycle and taking strong turns at relatively fast speeds by leaning the bike low. You embrace the fear and trust the process, in a way letting go of life's control on you.
@@LeoA05 Right on and great explanation. Appreciate it. : )
suicidal basically. ive come to the conclusion that most cave explorers/divers are suicidal since they NEVER learn
"Two Divers Left to Die" may not optimally tell the story as a title.
I love how your videos are descriptive and showing map locations and diver location on the map, i follow a lot of cave diving channels and this one is the only channel that nails it on point, i see this channel with Millions of subs soon
Thank you so much! Just trying to make the best videos I can!
I'm on a kick of these and, under rocks, UP is NOT UP like gravity(your ear) tells you while trying to get OUT. When going under in a 12 ft pool can be intoxicating.. 90m is a whole other thing even with the gas sciences.
Coming around that trough with a dead body has gotta be nuts man because everyone got sick at 100m
You're right, there is a cool effect under water, every scuba diver experiences it, it's like having an out of body experience, it's kind of like the feeling of nitrogen narcosis you get at deeper depths, similar, but not as strong. I've been diving since the early 1970s, I still get that feeling when I dive.
If cave diving is not as dangoures as you like, wait for it to freeze over?
When ever I feel adventurous I smoke a blunt and watch a funny movie. That's about as adventurous as it gets for me
Hats off to the three men. They're real friends. May the two who died find peace in the afterlife.
We should not knowingly risk our lives. MATTHEW 4: 5 Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple, 6 And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone. 7 Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.
There is a high quality documentary about this dive, named as "Diving into the unknown"
Naruto died down there 😢
Ain’t no way you said that
Thanks for another interesting video
...I've watched many of these now and almost every one comes with: "the diver(s) came to a decision point (e.g. extreme danger, lack of air, cloudy water, etc.)...and yet they decided to press on."
In this case, they came across the lifeless body of their friend and, instead of turning back, at least one or two of them decided to crawl over his body to continue forward. Really?
Well they had to get out one way or the other and it's a judgement call as to whether going on or turning back would be safest. Watching a short video on the incident hardly qualifies us to question that judgement.
I just have a problem with taking their partners with them in their madness to their deaths or near deaths (their dive partners )
Same with mountaineering, everyone puts others at risk there too. 😢
OP, I found this odd as well. Sounds like they literally had to push or glide alongside the dead body to pass. Seems a bit effed up, for me and you at least, to do to a "friend". Especially considering turning around was the safest option.
I guess finishing the dive was more important in the moment. Wven not knowing all the facts, it seems odd to me that you'd continue past the dead body when you don't know what's on the other side.
@@kevinm8865turning back was the longest road, it would've taken 11 hour rather than keep going which only took 5 hours to exit
@@PeterS-r4o we are not allowed to come up with our own assumptions based on the evidence presented??? Your argument is basically "if you didn't play in the majors you can't talk about baseball " no one is judging to be harsh but to say we are not allowed to come up with our conclusions is just ridiculously asinine.
Extremely impressed with this video!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I mean there are plenty of stories where divers got left behind
Love your page keep up the good work ❤👏🏼
Just the first minute made me think, why would you even think about doing this?
Some people want to die underwater. I don't.
Never would I do this in a million years
Title is misleading. They were not left to die, they were dead. And there was absolutely nothing their diving buddies could have done at the time to save them, even though they did try.
I’m sorry but I don’t have any sympathy for people who do such dumb things when they know better!!
Chaotic storytelling, jumping backwards and forwards without any sense.
Just want to Tell u that i really appreciate ur videos. Love all the graphics wich help me understand even if i dont use english that much. You are the first channel about deep and cave diving that is perfectly clear ;) love it!!!! kisses from Québec City, north of Canada (about a meter of snow today!!!)

Great video!!
Why should idiots risk their own lives to save some other idiots?
This story took place on my 12th birthday
3 april 2024, Jared Hires, an american died in the same cave.
perfect. i been searaching for this episode on your channel . since its in my city, you are my favorite youtuber
That means so much to me! Thank you!!
So I’m assuming the first bloke didn’t have a knife?
I see in a lot of these videos, simple mistakes like missing gear, is a major cause of death.
They all wear at least two knives (you always have redundant equipment in cave diving). If you become hung up while your arms are through a tight restriction while much of your body hasn't made it through, you can't just reach back behind yourself with all the equipment that you're wearing. Also keep in mind that you can't cut things blindly behind you, even if you could reach, much of that is your life support system.
No other ghost stories could top these kind of horrible mishaps. Yikes.
I haven't seen the video yet but I call B.S! The remaining divers were traumatized by what happened and went back to retrieve their comrades! The title does all of them a disservice!
It is a little clickbaity but I guess if it gets people to watch the video, it’s okay. When people watch they understand what really happened. 😊
There are always a millions comments about how normal people would never be so stupid to do this and that it could never be worth the risk. Normal people are afraid of their own shadow. These are adventurers. The kind of people that go out and hunt, explore, and discover the world around them to share with the rest of us. Be thankful there are people with these skills out there.
No, I'm not thankfull and I'm not scared of my shadow.
and that is what killed them... There is nothing in the cave worth losing your life over... It is ego, over confidence and bragging rights that these guys usually do this.. Look how macho I am..
@@trainsplanesandotherthings5187 If you actually knew these guys, you would not say that. Some maybe doing it for bragging rights sure, but those people usually don't have a long lifespan. Watch the documentary of this case called "Diving into the Unknown", it's quite well done.

They won't take stupid risks to recover sorry when I say it but stupid divers bodies.
Most divers who die in accidents like this one have only themselves to blame because they make stupid avoidable mistakes that end up in death.
We have the technology just use a submersible robot. Why would anyone do this.

They'll just sneak in like they did here.
So you see a friend die and instead of returning you just keep going??? Isnt it stupid??? Like in a such dangerous place having seen your friend die in front of you isnt the best thing to have in mind in a place where focus is so damn fking important wtf
So what are you supposed to do? You are underwater, at a depth where your reasoning skills match those of being on top of Mount Everest. At those depths you are pretty much at the limit of human body and the rebreather system they were using. So you are pretty guaranteed to suffer from some level of hypoxia at that point. If you want to live you have to, not stay there.
They all evaluated the options available to them at the time. They could either go back, or continue. Both options had a risk attached to it. Going back was much longer, they might not have enough oxygen to go back. Going forward had Vesa and Kai needing to pass now stuck and deceased Jari H. It was unclear if that was at all possible. Vesa chose to try it and did make it. Patrick had already passed the tight section before Jari H, so he had no other options than to continue. Just before reaching the tight spot, Kai had seen Jari U. die from what was probably an equipment malfunction. At that point he still decided to continue because the distance out was much shorter going forward. Until he came to Jari H. and realized he has to go back.
So you see, they continued because there was really no other option for them. Kai chose probably the riskiest option by going back, considering the oxygen supply and the long route. Not to mention the fact that he had to go back to the deepest section that they already passed, adding even more time for decompression stops needed. And all of them suffered injuries from decompression sickness due to them spending so much extra time at the deepest section trying to help their friends.

Self accomplishment, excitement bring people into cave diving, their brain say lets do it again. I did cave diving before 😂 it was fun but also claustrophobic. After that serious mode of mine, the sign of relief that I didnt die was amazing and I wanted to do it again. Ive accomplished something for myself and I felt I was cool. That is what you will feel if you try this. PS: I didnt do it again, I did mountain climbing once and didnt do it again either, ive road my bike in the street of manila all the way to tagaytay and never did it again.
