And more often than not primitive methods are very surprisingly effective

Hey John, yep I always go for that glassy sizing even if it takes 20 layers for the back to finally soak it up, it makes for a very strong surface for adhesion, and more often than not I don’t even need to bind it in, in fact I can’t remember the last time I used a binding..

@@danielspain7231 I totally get it. I basically bind mine because I do a lot of painting. Otherwise I do like the look of a natural unbound sinew back.

Morning John. Im going to try not to continue to bug you with questions but here's one for you if you have a moment. I have granulated hide glue, do you think the powdered hide glue works more effectively? I ordered some this morning (powdered) and I'm wondering if i should be patient and wait til it comes in the mail instead of using what i have now ( granulated). WWJD? Hahaha.

@@MountaincraftOutdoors Howdy, I only use the powdered hide glue if I'm not using glue I make out of sinew scraps. Stay away from the "hide glue" in bottles that's ready to use. Great question.

@@MountaincraftOutdoors I misread your question. Was a tough night that included an ambulance for my wife. I think you'll be able to tell when you mix the powdered hide glue and get a feeling for it's tackiness. I've never seen powdered hide glue but I would think it's just hide glue that's been processed more.

The way you do it makes a lot of sense to me.
I said I backed my first sinew bow after watching your videos, it was with titebond III. I'm in the process of sizing up this short bow as I write you with hide glue. Nothing against the titebond but this feels more right to me. I'm really glad I found your channel man. Thanks again.
