      Those pedals are hall effect senor not potentiometer pedals

  • @0the0trooper0
    @0the0trooper0 2 года назад +43

    Great review. Just wanted to add the the pedal set does not use pots but magnetic sensors (Hall). Yes they still use position to see how much we are breaking but its contactless. This is important because it should work without problems for longer. A well known issue with standart pots (like the ones in T3PA) is that because the components "grind" in each other to assert distance traveled in the pedal, after some time they usualy lose precision or even give wrong readings due to wear. This new sensor should fix that. Also the pedal set is sold seperatly (around 115 eur) so its a new option for people with thrustmaster pedals having this issue (instead of going to the load cell that is around 220 euro).

    Anybody serious or even semi serious about racing, I would recomend sticking with the t300 over this. More flexibility with the wheel rims and better more precise and more powerful ffb in general. The only thing the t248 package has over any of the t300 packages is the t3pm pedals and the little display. I would highly recommend going with T-LCM's in either case.
    The t300 is rated around 4nm of torque, 3.9 exactly I beleive and i think the t248 is around 3-3.2nm but even if they were identical in power, the dual belt drive system will be a lot smoother and more precise. For those reasons I think the t300 is the best base to build off of until you can afford to jump to fanatec dd pro or even a ts xw/pc racer.
    It's like comparing fanatec's csw v2.5 vs csl dd with boost kit, 8.7nm vs 8nm of torque but the fidelity and smoothness of the dd still makes it superior in the end.

      you say that, but have you tried the t248? I saw many saying this, even before t248 was launched, but most of the ones that have tried it say it's much better than t150/tmx and is basically as t300 almost, even if its stull a hybrid. And it has better pedals than t300, plus its a bit cheaper.
      I really don't think that t300 is much smoother and more precise, you should try a t248.
      T300 is still great tho, and is the better choice if you buy 2nd hand as you can get it cheaper

    I’ve been using the t248 wheel for about a week and in my opinion it is no better than the Logitech 923 which I’ve used for about 6 months. It behaves similarly to the 923 only a tad bit stronger force feedback and it’s quieter. The wheel itself feels way cheaper. Plastic and overly clicky. The pedals might be slightly better. I’ll be returning it to Amazon and putting the money towards a fanatic DD Pro.

    Now the most important question. Does Thrustmaster already use some grease or everything is squeeking again like with their older wheels? I have the T300 GT and basically everything - wheel base and all pedals, everything started squeeking like after 1 or 2 weeks of use. Had to open everything (thus lost the warranty) and lubricate it myself. I am verry happy with the wheel, it works perfect, but this no-grease-issue was just awkward. And from my brief research/googling that time, I was definitely not the only one who had the "squeeky-piece".

    • @focussport
      @focussport 2 года назад

      I had to do the same. The gas and brake were very squeaky, and it was a little more work than expected to get to the hinges. Still a great wheel though, and ive never had any actual issues with it. Only other thing Id like to do is change out the fan for a quieter unit, but its still not overwhelming at the moment.

    Really interested in the growth of the ThrustMaster catalogue but I must say that the nut that you swivel around for attaching the clamp is very easily broken, as the plastic will yield far before the threads or the nut, luckily the plastic sphere around the nut has stayed molded onto the nut and allows the clamp to still work. Otherwise you may have to find your own bolt.

    THe T300 rs gt is a stone they layed in their own way imo. It is so good that it is some sort of stopping the sale of other wheels of them.
    The thing is, that the T300 firstly had an awesome engine and a tech that is in my case unbeatable. The amount of modifications you can do to it is so high, you can change everything. And you basicly dont even have to, because the stock powertrain is huge and the feeling is quiet good too.
    In my case i changed the Wheel due to an adapter, now i have a 350mm real car wheel. Im also about to change the engine and the gear in the case to some more powerful ones.
    This T248 is a shame, it has 1 cool feature which isnt even that relevant. and thats this small display.
    But by taking a look at it i have to say it reminds me on my g920 i had before. It was well made, but it was lacking Power, Had missfunktions, the shifter was to small, the pedals were to small too and the brakepedal was to hard. I sold it for nearly half the price i bought it even tho it was nearly new.

    Seeing as I'm already in the TM ecosystem, I'm interested how their DD wheel is going to perform, and how much it will cost especially. At the end of the day, the only reason I bought the T248 was because the buttons on my T150 gave out after only a year and a half. So if TM doesn't do well on their DD stuff, or price it right (which given how they've been pricing things, let's be honest with ourselves), then I won't be buying it even if I am in their ecosystem. If the DD base is like $600 without a rim, I might as well just go get Fanatec stuff at this point

    • @bartonez123
      @bartonez123 2 года назад +1

      I expect the Thrustmaster DD base to possibly be even more expensive than that, but considering it's super easy to buy Thrustmaster stuff on special, I'd take that list pricing with a grain of salt, most people will be buying their wheels with minimum 30% off deals shortly after launch. Hell, even the latest F1 rim was on special only a few months after launch. Fanatec rims are also much more expensive than the Thrustmaster ones (before you even take the massive discounts into account), so they end up being fairly uncomparable anyway, Fanatec kind of sits in a far more premium pricing level in terms of end pricing in the real world.

    • @combatwombat594
      @combatwombat594 2 года назад

      @@bartonez123 I get ya. Definitely a lot to take into consideration at this point. I've not heard of people getting discounts like that on TM gear, but there's no reason why it wouldn't happen as far I can think lol I did just get a coupon through Humble for 20% off a T150 and another for 20% off a T248 that I'm giving away in my racing community along with some game keys and an iRacing 3month membership for a new iRacing account. Can only be used in the US tho which sucks. I can say this: if my T248 breaks in the same amount of time my T150 did, I'll never buy another TM product again

Well, so many poeple kept having issues with the T300, i have seen numerous cases of reliability issues, while the G29 just did not seem to have any bad reviews. Going on it for the 5th year, and i have been thinking of swapping for a DD wheel some day. But this wheel... Just does it. Feels rigid, like i could toss it at a wall and it would survive. It actually fell down to the floor once and nothing happened. Maybe i will try the Thrustmaster some day, but the G29 just won't give me any reasons to throw it away

    I wouldn't look into Thrustmaster's pricing too much, at least with comparison to Fanatec. RRP's are high, but it's easy to find on discount. My local store is selling them at 40% off. Because it's in basically every store, you can almost always find it on sale somewhere. The counter to that is the T300, T150 and even the Logitech stuff also has massive discounts, and I'd have a T300 over this any day.

    Seems like a nice replacement of the T150 aimed simracers on budget. However, the "budget" part needs some work as it's cannibalised by older products - T150 itself and the T300 not being far off while being a much greater wheelbase, not to mention logitech fighting for that piece of market cake.
    It has straight gears for the gear ffb system from what I can see, so like good ol' G25 - it's noisy, as heard on vid. Materials wise it doesn't stand a chance against logitech's proven metal and leather as well.
    It's not terrible, as it seems it tries to fix problems of T150, but at the same time, it retains some of the problems of it, all it needs is a lower price.

You could upgrade the T248 base and wheel to the TS-XW P310 Mod, it's pretty worth it. Then, it would seem like a pretty sweeet upgrade path for me. Even better if TM releases a solid DD base, and that would be the next step for me as I don't have Fanatec shipping to my country. Dk about you all, but it seems sweet.

    Except Thrustmaster already said their product prices are going to go up... as did Fanatec. Current prices are all gonna change.
    Also, this wheel is far, far superior to anything Logitech makes. None of the wheels you compare it to have a LCD display on them that allow you to change settings on the fly and in game.

    The clamp is trash. It wouldn't grip (and the wheel slipped and all that)
    It's the same clamp as on the T150.
    Mine broke the 2nd time I set up the rig on my desk.
    Really...TRASH.
    Now I use a metric thread with a wing nut, which I fasten with a set of pliers.

    I sent mine back after one day. Not because it was $400. I paid that to get it. But because it looked and felt like a toy. Paddles that are way too loud, pedals that has to be bolted down to something, Thrustmasters own website not serving up drivers. FFB is a little stronger but no more realistic. The rim a whack half wrapped POS.

      I don't think anybody does Sim racing on linux does it?It's such a small community compared with windows that its probably doesn't worth looking at in a company perspective. i thought about it a bit after setting eyes on the Steam Deck (and owning a g923 myself) that MAYBE,in the future and with future deck versions and as more people start buying it those companies will start looking at linux while people start using it docked as a computer or game console.

    I just bought this wheel today as my first wheel ever and i would highly highly recommend not to buy it!
    When you turn to sharp there is a horrible vibration and coming out of corners the wheel doesn’t countersteer enough to keep you straight. It is so S***. And the worst part is it was $549 oz dollars!

      The difference is night and day!
      The t300 is far more Quite. Far easier to handle and it rotates back much faster!
      After only 1 hour practise i’m within a tenth of my best pad time! Don’t buy t248 you will regret it!

    PlayStation is shit. Not surprised your going through this this. Gt7 was the only EXCLUSIVE game on ps worth buying. So glad I waited. And so glad I didn’t buy gt7. Don’t buy it. It’s all hype. Even from famous RUclipsrs they all shill out for this game.
    Check out legit reviews. Gt7 sucks. If you want real sim racing. Go acc or iRacing. Gt7 is going to be pushed aside when forza 8 comes out. I guarantee. You want a good sim Cade, go forza 8. They won’t strip you for money.

    • @focussport
      @focussport 2 года назад

      You are 100% talking out your ass. The issues with GT7 have nothing to do with its driving and content. Sim racers that play iR and ACC all feel GT7 is as close to a sim as it needs to be, and if anything, is less forgiving than some. If you'd "check out the reviews" youd see people loving the game, and hating MTX/online only. You also cant compare to Forza because they havent even come CLOSE to realism yet, and the game is full of children who dont give a fuck about actual racing. Children like you.
      Despite SONYs flaws, GT7 is still a legendary game. Forza 8 might be a good game, but nerds like you that concentrate on XBOX vs PS vs PC will never understand any of it, because youll just get confused by your own bias, and spout off dumb shit like what you said above.

    The T3PM's definitely don't use potentiometers lol. The "M" literally stands for "magnetic", as in 100% wear free Hall effect sensors. This also means they have lower latency & higher accuracy than the prior potentiometer using T3PA's.
