Having heard the RCV211V live in 2004 I can believe it. The Ducati was super loud and aggressive but the Honda V5 was wonderful. Odd how Honda road bikes are less inspiring though. They really should have bought out a V5 road bike.
Doug BM I remember the RC211V as well, I am regular MOTO GP Grand Prix of Brno attender since 1999. It was great as well. I am quite surprised by that issue as well, given the fact Honda made 6-cyl bikes in the 60's makes me even more.
SRAMEK That's correct. Now they are V4 1000cc. Then they were V5 990cc. In 5 seasons of MotoGP racing the Honda RC211V won 48 races out of 82 (58.5%) contested. It also won 3 rider world championships (Rossi 2002, 2003 and Hayden 2006) and 4 constructor titles (2002, 2003, 2004, 2006).
@@stpbasss3773 Rossi started in an era where bikes were actually difficult to ride, not where they're full of electronics. Exactly why there's very few highsides in Moto GP now. As soon as Marquez suffers his first serious injury he'll be done.
@@ridingwithsam why does the bike being difficult to ride have to do with winning a chip when they all ride the same shit. It's not like Rossi had a harder bike to ride than the rest of the field. +Gabriel Choi Absolutely a LEGEND.... Already broke records no one else ever has. If he retired today they'd put him in the MotoGP hall of fame as a LEGEND!!! You can't ride his bicycle like he can.... A MotoGP bike?... You wouldn't know how to put it in gear!...
i think the quickshifter actually rev-matches for him when downshifting... if i'm not mistaken it is a 2-way QS, so it cuts power to the ignition when shifting up, & blipping the throttle to match the revs when downshifting, also the use of a slipper clutch helps keep the rear wheel from locking. they only use the clutch for take-off... but i could be wrong
The lates theory on that is that as a consequence of the seamsless gearbox, no clutch is needed except for starting, because two gears can be engaged simultaneously.
I tried on a Shoei X12 and the chin area is quite low/small so I'm not surprised Marc's chin is so visible. What is surprising is that he still uses that helmet.
His chin is so exposed because he actually wears his helmet that way. Many riders do. Gives them better visibility when in full tuck and thru turns. He can pull the front down MUCH MORE if he wanted and the helmet would fit the way you think it's supposed to
It's all manual, when accelerating you don't need to use a clutch if you're at the right rev range, when downshifting though you do, but these are GP bikes so there clutch is a lot smoother and can also withstand more punishment so the downshifting is very quick not to mention he's rev matching when he downshifts.
Many people change the shifting to this way because it is easier to change up a gear pressing down while you are hanging off the bike accelerating out of a corner.
yes most all race bikes are set up to shift like that. you can even buy a kit to set up your steet bike to shift that way. Personally, I think all sportbilkes should come from the show room with a shifter that you press down to up shift.
It's actually easy to do. Some machines like a lot of older Hondas, you can bolt a lever right to the shaft like I did to make shifting opposite (gp shift). I really like it and will have it on every bike I will ever own. Makes clutchless upshifting so so easy and precise. It feels natural and just makes sense to me anyway...
It bothers me how high up his helmet seems on his head (like, his chin is hanging out) but, considering their cornering posture, it makes sense that they have to look "up" most of the time to see through their corner.
so that's more like a double-clutch technology? where the shift time's are reduced to microseconds? i always here stuff about the seamless gearbox that honda uses is the main advantage on the straight over yamaha, and i know yamaha is working on one also, but i've not yet learned what & how this seamless gearbox shifts. and i wonder what would happen if they used CVT's, though that would take away the amazing sound we are all so accustomed to
Rafael daSilva The new AGV seems better fit for this purpose, with good upward visibility and the helmet is also longer in the neck. Shoei should upgrade the flagship X-12. Remember Marc hurt his chin at the Mugello crash
Taken from motogp website; “[But does the rule change have] Big advantages? No. Look at some races for example, as there are cases, for instance last year at Silverstone where Scott [Redding], a heavy rider, was battling with Marc [Márquez]. And look who finished ahead?! Scott. There are always special or specific cases. Though normally, from my experience, I see the lighter rider always having the advantage.”

On a lot of circuit racing bikes the gearing is opposite because its a lot easier to click down while accelerating and leaning through a corner.
