    Millings are indeed a great thing, covers up a lot of things ,makes a stable roadway,great you could get more of them

  • @zzvyb6
    @zzvyb6 3 года назад +4

    Adding gauge wheels behind the rake teeth and then letting the rake float will eliminate the roller coaster effect that usually shows up with a fixed 3pt rake position. Angle the rake more and comb the edges in. Then set the rake to zero angle an run down the center to get a nice smooth, crowned/cambered roadway. A rake should be wider than the tractor wheels when it is angled at 45 degrees. Otherwise the tires intrude on the pathway left behind.

    I like recycle asphalt and millings. They have. 60/40 blend of RAS and millings that lays good and you can rake over with landscaper rake once you get a few heavy rains the stuff level out and starts to pack in. I spray around where it joins the sidewalk or patio edge with used engine oil.

  • @boduke7680
    @boduke7680 3 года назад +6

    Hopefully you are putting the asphalt millings 4” to 6” thick and adding a binding agent. Also rent a vibrating roller to pack it down. Will last forever and look like regular asphalt. Been doing this for 48 years.

      @@ryanburton3339 Why don’t you get educated before being a keyboard worrier. With the knowledge (something you obviously don’t have) it will come out as good as hot mix. Binding agent and putting it in properly will get the same results. As stated earlier I’ve been doing it for 50 years now. Sorry your to incompetent to understand that. I’ve done several commercial lots that prove you wrong. Some are 40 plus years old and are still smooth and look as good as the day they were done.

    We used millings for the parking lot at the fire station. The crew dropped the stuff, graded it and then rolled it with a very light roller. I looked it over and said, no problem we can use our "roller" on it. Got out the tanker and really rolled it in. Amazing what a job that truck did, but it does weigh in at close to 30 tons when it has 4000 gallons on. Oh after it was in for about a year we coated it with a layer of chip seal. Made it a real nice lot and seems to be holding up very well over the past 10 years or so.

    • @This1LifeWeLive
      @This1LifeWeLive  Месяц назад

      They do that on our roads up here, but the machines are not too common so you only see them once in a while. Likely the companies that have them wont' bother with a small job and depending on how bad it is, you could contact an asphalt company ti see if there's a way to 'fill so many cracks, or if it needs to be scraped up, taken away and crushed put down :)

    Just did a 150' road widening project on a turn in our half mile road around our lake property over the weekend. Posted video, not the greatest angle and the sun didn't cooperate with me either. At 19 min there's a description of my land plane and at 25 min camera is on tripod.
    The asphalt company I deal with calls the material processed or screened. One can get it unprocessed off the road too and some use that for a base, especially when it can be gotten for free at times from the same company. I wouldn't advise it for a top coat. Very rough and doesn't spread well with chunks as large at stop signs.

    Around here we call those millings and they do make a good driveway. But, same as you, they have become hard to get. If you ever find yourself with a swampy driveway again, put down a geotextile first, a larger stone next, and then your top coat. The geotextile will keep the stone from disappearing into the clay :)

    • @This1LifeWeLive
      @This1LifeWeLive  3 года назад +2

      We actually have been using it for the last 5 years and have had none of those issues. Since it's ground up road, and each state makes it a bit differently, maybe that's why he's having the issues. Ours will harden in the summer, and in cooler weather become more like gravel. We grade ours out about once a year. It will get a few dips (not quite pot holes) and we grade them just like normal. water drains off it within minutes though, so it's been a total game changer for us.

      That’s a pretty naive way to look at things. History has proven that democracy works the best for the people. And in order for it to work the people have to be engaged and vote. Freedom is never free. Don’t ever forget that. Every vote is very impressive. From local, to state, to the national elections. It’s in everyone’s best interest to be involved.

    Number one it's not crushed asphalt it is milled asphalt they use a Rota Mill to mill up the asphalt, hints of calling it millings. Secondly quit waving your moonshine jug around.....lol

    I'd bet that if you and Eric had taken me up on the steel mill rock, you would've had everything filled and rock hard for far less than what you've paid otherwise.

      ?? I do have a log file of tips people give me, but sometimes it's chaos while I'm going through comments and I get distracted. But like Erik mentioned, if you've got info on stuff, we still have roads in the back to start working on :)

    That must of been an armature dump trucking outfit. That was the worst spreading I’ve seen in a long time. An experienced driver could spread it consistently to the depth that you want without having to refinish levelling it The first guy unlocked the gate way too early and there was garbage in the front of his box he didn’t shovel out making you get less for your money. . The second put the box up too fast letting material flow over the gate.

      Most places refuse to even do this out here, so we were grateful they at least tried :(
